Lauren! If you like perfumes with a story behind them I’d really love to see you review scents from Fantôme. They have many niche fragrances and each one is designed with a story in mind, inspired by the founder’s experiences while traveling, some are inspired by Russian fairytales or 19th century spiritualism. They also have sample sets that I would love to see you try! No one really talks about them but I love their scents!

I love that you tried this brand!
I initially tried them because I was seeing comparisons between Memoirs of a Trespasser and By the Fireplace. I ended up being pretty disappointed since Memoirs comes off very vanilla to me, not nearly as good as BTF imo. It actually reminds me more of Vanille Insensée by Atelier.
A City on Fire really surprised me. First spray was real aggressive but as it wears, it starts to have just a nice tamped out fire smell. It’s also good mixed with something sweeter like Whiff of Wafflecone. I think I’ll be grabbing a full bottle of both. 😊

Ooooo I love imaginary authors. I have st. Julep, slow explosions, falling into the sea, and decisions decisions. My bf and I share these scents and he has yesterday haze, whispered myths and the super woodsy one I can't remember lol. They're so addictive bc they're so approachable but different. St. Julep is probly my fav, not the best lasting but can last if u spray ur clothes. Love it!🖤🖤🖤

I feel so edgy and hip for having sampled IA last year! Ended up getting travel sizes of Sundrunk and Cape Heartache, but also love The Soft Lawn. I want to sample several more and am curious about the new one they just dropped! It sounds up my alley; I love green/fresh scents. I also was taken aback by the AMAZING packaging
P.S. you might also like Phlur for indie fragrance

It took me a moment to get A Whiff of Waffle Cone, I smelled the ice cream and salted caramel at first only, and a bourbon (to my nose). But when I applied it, the pine scent came in and mixed with the caramel-bourbon, vanilla smells. Then I learned that it is a collab between Imaginary Authors and an ice cream shop in Portland. Then I understood the vibe; standing in the doorway of this ice cream shop after coming in from a hike in the forests. Now I really love it! Reminds me of christmas season as well, like a blend of christmas tree and eggnog.
Saint Julep is probably a perfume I'll buy over and over for the rest of my life.

i bought saint julep earlier this year and wore it everyday during the summer. it's so sweet and delicious and smells like a vacation, but not a typical "vacation" coconut-y scent. i absolutely love it.

This is the first perfume video of yours I've watched. Since I got into indies 2 years ago I've had no interest in mainstream scents. It took me about 5 months of buying entirely too many samples to figure out what worked for me but I regret nothing. I've found tons of atmospherics that trigger memories for me & it's amazing.
You might really like Fantome. I could recommend a ton of houses & if you're interested in finding more I highly recommend the Indie Makeup & More Reddit - despite the name its 90% perfume talk and I've found it to be a surprisingly nice community.

Ahh- I got an 8 pack and wrote some reviews on my notes yesterday- I thought it was so interesting listening to your video and comparing what I had written about it.
    Cape Heartache:
    Winter woods and mountains
Like a cabin you’ve just walked into
Older masculine scent, but not too spicy
A hint of sweetness from the strawberries
Would be good for a more formal night out, definitely a winter scent
    Daddy energy
    A City on Fire
    Strong campfire notes
    Hearty and deep
    A little bit sweet
Also a more wintertime scent to add to maybe a leather jacket, or sleeves
Smells more natural than cologne, basically like smoke and fire, may be good for layering over a cleaner or more floral scent for complexity
    Saint Julep
    Sweet and fresh, extremely pleasant
Definitely a little more floral and feminine, but the mint gives it more of a unisex punch
Feels like it would be a good year round scent, or something to put on the skin to interact well with natural oils as the day goes on
I feel like most people would like this one
    Every Storm a Serenade
This does have an ocean-y smell to it, while also having a woody powdery incorporation
Smells like a more traditional male cologne but is fresh enough and not spicy, so I would feel really posh wearing it
A more fancy night out kind of scent
A lot of masculine complexity, it’s very formal and mysterious
    Memoirs of a Trespasser
    I’m immediately into it
It smells like some kind of bourbon berry desert balanced perfectly with other complex scents to bring a more formal feeling to it
It does have a deeper, fall and wintertime feel to it, but I wonder how it sits on the skin
So far I think this is the most unisex fragrance I’ve smelled, this would be my every day pick
    Telegrama
This is a fresh, more cologn-ey scent. It’s not as deep, maybe a little sharper on the senses, like something you might smell in ambercrombie and fitch, but with more emphasis on the lavender and linens
This is a much stronger, sexy smell. Maybe to wear on a date, or somewhere you want to draw the other person in
    A Whiff of Wafflecone
This is definitely a layering scent, at least for me. It’s not as sickly sweet as I thought it would be, like there definitely is an alcohol component. Maybe on skin or clothes it may be different, but right now I’m not getting a scent that feels like a perfume or cologne to me
    Yesterday Haze
Right off the bat, what I’m smelling is extremely pleasant. It’s giving me kind of a Christmas holiday shop with different dried fruits and spices, but there is a deeper undertone that drives the complexity. Maybe a little bit nutty? Or like cigar smoke or incense?
I think it’s extremely well balanced, and would wear this at a social gathering to bring some fun into the palate of the atmosphere.

YAAAAY I can't wait to watch this! Memoirs of a Trespasser is my signature scent, and I was one of the commenters who asked you to check them out!

    • @streichedelic
      @streichedelic 3 года назад +6

Definitely just gonna write a run-on comment as I enjoy the video, because long-time watcher and fellow fraghead here.
First off, I'd love to see you make some palettes from your single shadows inspired by the scent stories from IA or any other perfume! That would be so cool!
I've been wanting to try Yesterday Haze foreverrr! I might blind buy a bottle. I bought a sample off of someone but it had gone off, I could tell it was expired. :( I'm obsessed with anything tonka, cream and fig.
I'm going to have to go back and revisit my sample of O, Unknown! because of how you described it. I LOVE Replica Lipstick On so I'm curious.
I blind-bought a bottle of Whiff of Waffle Cone but it smelled *too* burnt to me, more like vanilla but with a Whiff Of Burnt Hair. Like when you're done straightening your hair but your ends are kinda fried....
Cobra and the Canary is def on my list to try. Slow Explosions also sounds great, I love apple.
A City on Fire scared the crap out of me and I had to promise my family never to wear it again. It's a little much. Well, it's a lot much. I agree with the hot dog 'accord!' It's like a bay leaf/laurel or something, I find bay leaves smell like hot dog water.
I actually love how plasticky the orange/neroli is in Sundrunk, but I wish the drydown was a bit more complex! Or even just that it lasted longer. I know citruses fade quick but dang, this lasts 45 minutes on me.
OMG on your impression on Memoirs of A Trespasser. Now I'm scared I've been traipsing around the office smelling like a potato.
I'm wearing my sample of Falling Into The Sea right now and I agree that it's a great one.
Cape Heartache is another one I have a full bottle of. It smells exactly like my childhood, and it literally brings me to tears sometimes! I grew up spending every summer on Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron, and this smells like standing in the coastal ring of cedar trees that me and my little siblings had dubbed our "magic forest". We would sit and eat wild strawberries and rasperries in there and play make-believe.
If you read this comment, thank you so much!!! I live for all of your content but especially scent sunday!!

    • @airypersiflage

I couldn't agree more on Cape Heartache! I grew up near the Adirondacks and that is exactly what it smells like to me: picking berries in the pine woods on a sunny day

Love these videos!!! Want to get one of these sampler sets for sure!! I keep stopping the video to look up words!! Lolol for instance… when you were describing Every Storm A Serenade, this is in it…
Calone is an unusual odorant which has an intense "sea-breeze" note with slight floral overtones. It has been used as a scent component since the 1980s for its watery, fresh, ozone accords, and as a more dominant note in several perfumes of the marine trend, beginning in the 1990s.
    So interesting!!

Great video! I got my short story collection a few months ago and INSTANTLY feel in love with Cape Heartache and O, Unknown. I ended up buying a traveler's size bottle of O, Unknown because there's just something I find very cozy and comforting about it. I agree with you about the Whiff of Wafflecone...it's not quite what I expected. It's definitely a dessert gourmand, but on my skin there's just this strong smoky, burnt quality to it that kind of ruins the drydown for me. My sister loves Yesterday Haze and wears it from time to time, but it smells a little too masculine for my taste. I would love to see you do some other discovery sets as well...like maybe the Bohoboco line! You would probably fall in love with their Vanilla Black Pepper fragrance...it's kind of been my go-to this year. 🙂

Ok this is crazy…my dad was a firefighter for a very long time and I remember going to visit him at the firehouse and smelling all the gear, the hoses, and the smoke lingering in the air. That ‘burnt hot dog skin’ thing is the guys literally walking out of a burning building and taking their oxygen masks off, and their sweaty smoked skin.

I bought 3, and have 2 more coming from the Black Friday sale. I have almost finished O, Unknown -it's an easy reach for me. I like a good iris/powdery scent, and it dries down to smell like an iced tea on a sunny porch. Yesterday Haze is the love of my fragrance life - I fell in love with the creamy, fig that wasn't too sweet. I got these for my husband. I was reading the stories to him while we tried them on. We both liked the Canary & Cobra, but loved City on Fire, especially on him. He’s used it up and is working on another one, but he definitely wants more of City. I’m cracking up about the hot dog skin/BBQ smell. 🤣 Cape Heartache smells very PNW on a late spring morning when wild strawberries are ripe. It’s lovely.
We also tried the Zoologist perfumes. I loved reading other peoples reviews along with the descriptions- they’re so fun! And wow - amazing creative perfumery! T Rex, Elephant, Panda are good on him - Rhino is too but it’s VERY leathery. I like Chameleon, Squid, Moth and Bat on myself - Chameleon was #1 which isn’t my usual scent profile.

Ahhhh the Night Circus! I’ve always wished there was a perfume line to match the detailed descriptions in the book, and the circus tents. I want one that smells like the tent full of dreams, that had all the bottles. And a scent that smells like the tent with stars, where she went and saw the future. And the circus itself- I distinctly remember the apple cider, chocolate mice with licorice tails, crisp leaves, misty night air. Someone has to make this a perfume line. It’s got to happen. Anyways, Bailey’s orchard is a lovely idea!

The potato skin was interesting 😅 I have a bottle of memoirs of a trespasser and to me it’s all about wood and smoke and a delicious vanilla.it reminds me of a campfire and marshmallows 👌🏻 a bit similar to maison Martin Margiela - by the fireplace, but sweeter and a bit less smokey. I also have Yesterday haze, just love it 🥰 and a bottle of fox in the flowerbed 🌸

So happy to see a review of this brand. I sampled them and bought a full size of sun drunk. I liked it but it has low sillage, wouldn't buy it again

Have you tried any of Demeter's fragrances? They have unique scents like Rain, Dirt, and Funeral Home, and more "normal" scents like Lilac, Amber, and Cucumber. It's so fun trying them.

They REEK! I bought that same variety pack of scents and I HATED THEM ALL. I don’t understand how anyone could smell one of them and say, “Yes. This is my new signature scent!” And if they did, I would stay far, far away from that person. I’ve never had a fragrance make me feel like I was going to honk before! I had to go take another shower because it was really making me sick to my stomach.

I LOVE your perfume reviews. I’d love to see you review some Sucreabielle scents (I think that’s how you spell it?)
I have a hard time putting their scents into words and you do such a good job of it.

Fun review of the lineup! I've rated 354 fragrances thus far and only nine have earned an "F". Unfortunately, Whispered Myths was one of them. A "melon oud stank bomb"... gawd no. Horrible. But Saint Julep and Cape Heartache are worthy.

I have tried all but the newest two or three. I have found that sometimes a brand just doesn’t work for me - perhaps something consistent throughout the base notes? This is one that is borderline- I thought some were nice but not enough to buy. Great review!

I just tried one of their sets and my nose is so confused. The one thing I’m not confused about is that sundrunk smells like that orange pumice soap lol. I’m a fragrance newbie and I didn’t find these accessible at all. I’m thinking I’ll tuck them away for a while and see what I think about them in a couple months.

forgive me if you have already done this and i just missed it but i'd love maybe an "all time favourites" (not necessarily in your collection, wishlist frgrances, ones you've used up etc) perfume video or something along those lines so i can get a general baseline for what you do and don't like. i love watching these perfume videos but i suspect we have VERY different tastes overall!

I plan on doing a year favorites type of video in Dec. but I think the most similar video to get an idea of what I am liking right now is a video I did 2 Sunday’s ago about my top 10 faves right now! It should be in the playlist! Haha I have been really liking sweeter scents at the moment with the weather but I am more recently getting into perfume so I can definitely see my taste changing and evolving! 😊

@@LaurenMaeBeauty oooh, i'll look out for the favourites video and i'll go watch your top 10 in the meantime thanks! maybe a "favourite notes" video would be fun too, i recently noticed i'm very drawn to specific notes and usually not the ones i think i like!
