And he was decent too, Vince Mcmahon was very interested in him and even stone cold liked some of his gimmick/said it was good for business, then diva Orton ruined it
I really think they should have kept the title on Bob Backlund a bit longer the second time. He had really established his psychotic heel character by beating Bret. And Diesel wasn’t ready quite yet. Having Diesel beat him a bit later on would have been better imo.
Wasn't the point that Backlund was on his way to retirement, and that's just how papa Vince and company booked things? I really don't see what they did as a poor choice. Nash might not have been in his 20's but he was definitely a rising star at that point for sure, and having Backlund drop the belt to Nash when he did just felt like it was the right time to me. Christian is a prime example of Vince not liking someone, all because he didn't like his face. More charismatic than Edge as well as being a better workhorse, Christian proved he was a main event talent over in TNA, but alas, Vince showed how much he favored square jaws (as evidence points to half the world champions over the years). He could've easily been the top face champion after Edge, using a gimmick that had him more or less uphold the honors of Edge during Edge's face runs.

Big Boss Man is actually one of those I would put on the list of best wrestlers to never win the WWF title. He was surprisingly super agile for a big man back during his first run. His first ever match, he jobbed to Tully Blanchard and took Blanchard's finisher of the Slingshot Suplex. Also if you can find it, search for a steel cage match he had with Hulk Hogan at MSG prior to Wrestlemania 5 and especially look for the moment where he took a superplex off the top of the Cage. I still can't believe hardcore holly got a WWE championship match with Brock Lesnar. It even got cut short because triple h and Shawn Michaels requested more time lmao. Shows how serious they were about Bob Holly as a main eventer.
In hindsight, I wish Mr Backlund had his second title run last longer than three days. That heel persona he portrayed was great, a classic moral high ground type that people would love to hate. I don't think an extended run with the title would've worked too well, something like a month up to the Royal Rumble would've been fine. The Diesel squash could've happened at the Royal Rumble and maybe put Diesel over even stronger considering it wouldve been on pay per view.
I always thought Bob Holly’s career was elevated because of the match where he sliced his back from top to bottom and finished it. I had no clue it was from Brock Lesnar
One question: How in hell do you consider Kevin Nash a "forgotten" top guy? Between his title run, the nWo faction and his later feud with Triple H for the title, he was never out of the main event slot anywhere after getting his singles push back in the '90s. And WWE has never failed to remind us of his past successes at every opportunity, so how is he forgotten? Christian was jerked around by WWE, and so was Cesaro. But Nash was always given high profile spots with WWF/WWE, as well as the late '90s WCW and later with TNA/Impact. So how was he "forgotten"?
