  • John from www.okraw.com/ who has been living on a raw vegan diet since 1995 shares his views on traditional/old school raw vegan teachings that raw fruits and vegetables are the best foods for the human body, which he would agree with but...
    In this episode, John will share his health journey with you and how the Raw Vegan diet didn't bring him "optimal" health in his view. You will learn John's new belief on being raw vegan and health, and how our microbiome should be taken into consideration if "optimal health" is your true goal while living on a raw vegan diet.
    You will discover the importance of the microbiome and why you should care about the microbes that live on and within you. You will learn how they can help prevent and reverse disease and take your health to the next level.
    You will learn the most important elements to consider when trying to improve your microbiome: diversity and keystone species.
    You will learn how to modulate your microbiome to make it better and in turn, improve your health.

      go at it slowly, you have to train your gut to tolerate fermented foods again. Fermented foods also has a lot of histamines, so it might be a histamine intolerance. Eating green pea sprouts and legume sprouts can help with histamines as it's highest in DAO that blocks histamines.

    Hi John, great vid. I was purely raw whole foods plant based though recently i've added home made veg soups back into the diet. I'm fighting some prostate cancer with the diet. psa tests are encouraging. i find the cooked foods give the heat i seem to require and allows me to carry on eating mostly raw and further i find the cooked foods help with cravings. i think people may get a little too caught up with wanting to be a raw this or that thinking more about idealism and labels than health...

    One of my favorite topics to geek out on is Eco-systems in nature and how important it is to understand them, understand each ecosystems job and support it so it remains vital! I've often described my gut as an ecosystem which my family thought was pretty humorous but thinking of it this was reminds me to treat it well so it can function optimally and create better health for me. Still got some work to do but I'm high raw and happy! Thanks for such a useful and honest video!!

    Very informative ! If you're buying rice Lundberg organic brand has the lowest arsenic levels.Arsenic levels can be lowered the most by boiling rice in a pot of water as you do with pasta. It cooks a lot quicker this way too. I remember reading a Mercola article about 15 years back about 3 different microbiome colony types . It also mentioned that finding a location to get tested on which type you have was hard to find.I did a search for the testing at the time, was unable too find. Has anyone heard of this?

    My mom lived to 103 and ate very healthy but rarely ate any raw foods with the exception of an occasional Greek salad with olive oil and vinegar. She stayed away from processed foods, seed oils, butter, breads, pasteries and sugar. She ate plenty of steamed cabbage and broccoli almost daily as well as lentil and bean soups. She also ate homemade yogurt made from organic non-fat milk on a regular basis. She stayed away from beef but ate salmon and chicken. She had her full faculties, was disease free, had perfect cholesterol levels, never had cancer and never suffered any major or minor disease. She walked six miles a day and was climbing mountains at age 95. If mom hadn't fell and broke her hip she would still be alive and healthy today at 106. There is no perfect one fits all diet, those who believe so are simply close-minded and misled.

    I feel like food is a tool, and ways we use food can be the tool we need at the time. Raw vegan may be the tool that some people need at a time. I don't believe that anyone should try to force themselves to be raw vegan their entire life. It becomes a purity spiral for some people.

    Thanks as always for this very informative nd supportive video for my health journey.
    You said blending banana and blueberries decreases the amount of polyphenols.
    Is oxidation the cause or the combination of the two items?
    If former a vacuum blender could save some polyphenols, right?

    Interesting thought..why do People become so dogmatic? What's the psychology behind it?
    Regarding the diversity of the microbiome. I think it's too tempting to categorise food reactions/symptoms as intolerance. I think we have to be open to the possibility it may not be inherently bad for us. Tolerance may be based on the microbiome diversity that may need building.

    • @okraw
      @okraw  Месяц назад +5

      could be. Extended fasting will change your microbiome, which may be a good or bad thing. If you have a SAD microbiome then it would be good since it can act as a "reset".
