I highly appreciate you John. I’ve been trying to make Raw work for 7+ years and at times that I’ve done it, I’ve felt really great and at other times, not so much. Now instead of constan yo-yoing, I’m deciding to just be mostly Raw Vegan and not concern myself with being 100%. I might have periods of being 100% just to feel the contrast but I’m feeling pretty good right now. I’m feeling stable. This feels sustainable

John- you are so intelligent, aware and have a rare mind that is rooted in true science, rationality and common sense. Why would she come for you like this? When you are secure about yourself and, in your beliefs, you don't attack other people. Why is she emotionally so triggered/ threatened by your choices? It is a dead giveaway that SHE is the fearful one. She claps back at people who come for her weight or classless use of language. Stay your course- you are the real deal... authentic and informed. You are a respected, positive presence not just in the online and social media spheres of raw, vegan or WFPB communities, but for any rational thinking, open minded person! She unwittingly presents herself as ignorant and classless in many ways. It's good that you stuck up for yourself and addressed it, but truly... and there is no other way to put this; she is so beneath you. You have millions of subscribers. She's just broadcasting her ignorance- and likely trying to scavenge a nut off your success. Oh, wait- she doesn't eat nuts either, lol. You're the REAL DEAL- and all of your educated, informed followers know it!! Leave the ignorance where it belongs- in her own, ample lap 😀 If she knew better- she'd be embarrassed.

The reason I KNOW blood tests and microbiome tests are a useless way to determine one’s health is because when I was severely over weight, had cystic acne, and was sick ALL THE TIME with major health issues (migraines, vertigo, IBS, constant sinus infections, chronic bronchitis until age 26) …. My blood tests were always PERFECT!!!!! No doctor could tell me what was wrong because my blood tests and all other tests they ran never showed anything wrong…….
A better indicator is….. How do you FEEEL?, what do you look like? How is your fitness? What do your eyes, your tongue, your skin look like? How is your pulse, your energy level? How you FEEEEL and look tells you 100000000000 times more than any blood test or microbiome will ever tell you.

Thank you for calling out John. I also sensed a spirit of fear, and trying to convince himself of his efforts while throwing other people under the bus. The fear is understandable with his medical history. I know he means well. The thing I noticed is he tells people he wants them to start eating more (fill in the blank) based on HIS experience. I look at it this way if we were designed to eat cooked food we would have a warming apparatus for an appendage. Like a flame thrower. lol Humans are the only species on Earth that cooks their food. Having said that I still respect John for the work he does. I've learned from him over the years. He and Markus were the only ones back in the day making content on RUclips that I can recall.. The raw scene is so different now than it was in the 00's. I think he may have provoked your response through in an attempt to stay relevant. It's a RUclips tactic to get views.

Which is super unprofessionell of you and tells me a lot about your Ego. Also the way you talk comes across as being above others and being in the right. I think it’s vitally important to be willing to make reasonable adjustments with new data. Also, needs change with age, gender, and lifestyle and goals.
I’m high raw after a few months raw because I needed to incorporate tofu back into my diet. I’m an intermittent faster 20:4 or 21:3 and I am an athlete. I needed lower volume higher nutrient sources of complete protein into my diet. I just can’t stuff that many raw (or even cooked) lentils into my meal window or I won’t get enough calories.
I am unwilling to abandon my IF program because I think it’s better for longevity and autophagy but also because it just fits with my lifestyle and daily routine so perfectly.
It m also a 56 yo woman who needs to be mindful of retaining (or building) muscle. (I eat plenty of calcium building foods for bone health).
For me, raw is about maximizing nutrition and vitality. I eat tomatoes cooked because it’s more nutritive than raw. And I love tomato paste which is so great for lycopene but is not considered raw. Oh well! I’m more interested in optimization than labels.
I will also add that “cooked food” is a spectrum. Like, you can eat tofu right out of the package cubed with some aminos and green onion. But tofu isn’t raw. But cooked food can also be some vegetable cooked until it’s completely unrecognizable as a vegetable and has virtually zero nutritive benefits. I don’t eat the latter. Most of my meals would seem to the average vegan to be raw. Because I don’t eat “cooked down” foods. Beans and tofu and tomatoes and tomato paste and sometimes very lightly steamed vegetables? Yeah, I’m good.
    Optimal health is the key.

It's odd when people talk about needing some extreme level of diversity, considering every other species on the planet has very little, if any, diversity in their diet.

    • @GS-ni9wb
      @GS-ni9wb 4 месяца назад

Are you sure? From what I read there are quite a few species that do: bears, birds, dogs, raccoons, foxes, pigs, some fish and insects...even the bonobo (which is primarily fruitarian) supplements it’s diet with honey, eggs and meat.

    • @bbblackwell
      @bbblackwell 4 месяца назад

@@GS-ni9wb For sure, it's not literally true that *every* other species lacks diversity in their diet; there are lots of animals that take what they can get and that results in some diversity.
Generally speaking, though, the overwhelming majority of species have a strong focus in their diet, like grass for cows, bamboo for pandas, and krill for blue whales. From a survival standpoint, it's unreasonable to presume a wide variety of foods is necessary to maintain good health, as it's unusual for such variety to be available.

I'm glad you're responding to this female durianrider. Seems like she wanted to interview you just so she could use the interview as negative clickbait later to build her own channel. Why does it have to follow that if you're a fruitarian, you have to be...Nasty. It's negative and doesn't further the cause of a plant based lifestyle. Looking forward to your video on this.

Hi John! I agree on the idea of microbiome diversity specifically on a raw diet because with limited availability of certain nutrients, we kind of rely on the bacteria.
To this discourse, I would like to add something based on my existing concerns as a raw foodist living near Canadian border with 0 sunshine for 9 months. Vitamin D deficiency is a killer of microbiome and gut health (leading to general nutrient malabsorption, anemia, etc.), and I have been consistently testing low on vitamin D (while on a supplement) and more so, I have elevated parathyroid hormone (with normal Ca and P), which puts me at risk of D3-deficient osteoporosis. This brought me to realization that I need to introduce eggs to my diet as long as I keep living up north, as vitamin D absorption, especially from swallowed sources, relies on fats and cholesterol, which I produce a lot of, but clearly not enough for a good uptake of vitamin D from pills. For reference, I am on a maximum dose of D3 that I would be OK to be on because it is already 5x of what is recommended as safe worldwide, so I take 5000 IU daily, after I was diagnosed with deficiency and elevated parathyroid hormone while on 1000 IU! I have never performed a microbiome test though (greed 😅), so I cannot run an experiment of winter vs. summer situation or perform "food group A vs. food group B" test.
In general, I feel like living more in touch with natural elements other than food is a great factor contributing to the microbiome and gut health. Getting plenty of sunshine (which is easy owing to the protective properties of raw plants), swimming and diving in natural water basins and swallowing water with bacteria and micro-algae, swallowing natural dust while walking or running through the natural trails - these are some diet-unrelated things that are key to microbiome diversity, and sunshine (and even better - living by the ocean) is one of the key elements of success on a raw and especially fruitarian diet because one must have top absorption of minerals from fruit because they generally have a more limited mineral content than greens and seaweeds.
P.S.: I talked to several people who come to me after trying popular fruitarian diets while living in moderate climates, and they all have symptoms of demineralization and deficiencies that are hard to attribute to fruit acids only, and coincidentally they all have low levels of D (just barely hitting the reference range, like myself on 1000 IU in winter).

You say that if you care nothing about your health eat and enjoy your fruit but Msfitvegan eats mostly fruit and looks flawless .She looks better and healthier than she did 10 years ago. The proof is there and for many others. I am a little confused why you think we should be eating a more vegetable diet as we are not herbivores we do not have multiple stomachs to digest that fibre. We do not have teeth like a rabbit this is why most raw vegans juices their veggies . Also, mother’s breast milk is only healthy for the baby if the mother is eating properly . As humans we thrive on enzyme rich food, cooked food kills enzymes so this video is confusing.

And since you asked John… I ONLY took a blood test for content purposes after 13 years raw. I wanted to shut up the idiots saying you can’t get enough protein on a raw vegan diet.
I won’t get another blood test for a long time though. In my opinion, doing excessive blood tests have led to your deficiencies NOT eating a raw diet! I respect where you're coming from John, however, the Microbiome testing - it confuses me why people have drawn the conclusion that variety of micro organisms equals good gut health? I've read Fiber Fueled, I understand the theory, but it just doesn't add up to me. Shouldn't we consider what foods we're adapted to eating, versus simply trying to increase variety to the point where we are putting foods in our body that must be chopped, cooked or mixed with other ingredients to be palatable?
Would increased variety in micro organisms simply denote a higher volume of plant foods, which, compared to a standard population would result in better health outcomes? Are we, intuitively even supposed to consider this science when living in our natural environment? Yes, we like variety, but among the tropical fruits - we would never be inclined to just shove in a massive variety for no reason. Yes, wild primates can eat 100+ plants in a year but they are scavenging for what they can in an environment that has been degraded over many years. They'll resort to eating bugs when hungry enough, or even raw meat. I just don't put any stock in these microbiome tests, honestly, and I would love a response from anyone as to why this variety theory makes sense!

It's so easy to fall into a "Dualistic mind" and a "Dualistic mindset". I'm right... you are wrong.... There is a middle way that is logical , practical and follows the SCIENCE and new research. It can become a dogmatic notion of thought where we restrain ourselves to ONE way of thinking. It stifles an open mind that can embrace new idealogies and new ways to approach life. I see it constantly in everything. I appreciate that you have the courage to evolve your will into new ways of thinking.

John have you ever done genetic testing? I did this and had many genetic mutations so my gut doesn’t grow probiotics. My doc said my gut is like a golf course with brown patches because the sprinklers don’t work there so I need to “reseed” the lawn daily. Ie probiotics daily and sometimes I do multiple times a day. Just another piece of a complex puzzle.

I don't see any other animals looking for variety in their food source. When everything stops being a form of entertainment sanity might return.

Hey John, you're amazing for the raw and plant based community! You including cooked foods is challenging those who have fears about cooked foods and who have eating disorder mindsets. Msfitvegan has a big Ego imo 😂 There are reasons why Dr. Brooke Goldner's protocol works so well and one of them is huge amounts of greens and cruciferous veg, which most fruit folks don't want to accept either.

I'm 73 and in 1971 someone gave me a book on healthy eating so after 53 years some random thoughts.
    1. Does the person criticising / critiquing John use supplements? It seems most raw foodists now use all sorts of vitamins, supplements and green powders, things that are processed and heated in labs and factories but claim to still be 100% raw. You can't find powders or supplements in nature.
    2. First it was imperative to have blood tests, now it's microbiome tests. What's next, and what are the determinants for the microbiome score? 20 year olds, 30 year olds , 70 year olds? men, women,? That's important to know and does it relate to raw foodists scores.
    3. In the past when raw foodists, fruitarians, natural food eaters / advocates etc.. died early and before their time they never questioned why or what could be done to prevent this from happening in the future. All we got was: otherwise they wouldn't have lived this long, they were overworked, they didn't do it correctly, food isn't the only component rather than addressing the problem. In the last 20 or so years there's been a shift away from that and people are eating more greens, supplements, etc and looking to improve on the past.
    4. A lot of the early proponents were men with good genetics but poor diets ( and even now with Ted Car - was a triathlete, Durian Rider ( long distance runner / bike rider, etc ). They were active fit healthy men. Most normal people don't run marathons, are triathletes, or Phys Ed teachers like Doug Graham was before he started his diet.. Most people can't eat a dozen bananas or a dozen oranges for lunch and then go for a 2 hour bike ride followed by a 1 hour workout.

Who knows what the healthy macrobiome really is in this human world of generations consuming not for humans foods. To what it is measured against? As far as I am concerned, homeostasis in the body , which is found according to the information the body finds itself in, is really what microbiome develops against. I suspect that there are not enough people in given time for humanity to really know what is truly healthy macrobiome or even blood tests of raw vegans and fruitarians. All the statistics are based on not for human species food consumers for generations and state their bodies are in . And how about wildlife and animals, they don't have tests to check their biome and many of them are mono eaters. 🤔 Interesting topic. (Pardon for language mistakes. English is not my first language)

I believe blood type does affect the microbiome and food and body function compatibility.

I find it very unflattering when someone attacks another's views and beliefs as she has done in this video clip. It appears to me that she just might be a little bit jealous of you and not secure enough in her own dietary beliefs, making her feel it necessary to criticize you and your channel. Or, perhaps she has simply run out of content and feels the need to stir up controversy to get more views. Either way, I simply do not have time in my life to waste listening to such childish ramblings. I got nothing from listening to what she just said but have learned oodles from your channel. Keep up the amazing work John. I look forward to each new video that you post on the topics of gardening and wellness.

Who is she? LOL No Seriously.....I am sharing this with my Fb raw group as so valuable. I need to watch it all the way through but it was interesting what you said about RFR and what is atypical. I found that eating that amount of dehydrated food (wraps), with all that psyllium husk is not good for me and after 7 years of high raw vegan and 34 years as a vegan, that food just doesn't dig it for me. I tried mainly fruit but this did not suit me and so I stick to the sprouts I have eaten for 36 years, more greens, a little nuts and seeds, and some fruit. I choose a little cooked like sweet potato. some greens, millet and quinoa but after being fully raw, I was just darn unhappy.Being very high raw vegan is the way for me and I do not believe anymore that all cooked is bad for us.Too much pressure and emphasis is put on saying we are fully raw yet few truly are. Many use so much non raw (like maple syrup, cashews and nutritional yeast) to drown their food. This says to me that they are struggling..eat simply and appreciate a food with little drowning in a masking sauce! Eat your food instinctively whether cooked or raw because health is so much more than what we eat. One of the first things I did when I went raw was to stopped calorie counting and breaking down foods into isolated nutrients. I often have salads with up to 17 types of home grown greens in. This was just instilled into be over 30 years ago as a new vegan and so was eating sea veg,
