    Hey man, not american but I've watched this and the other video about breaking the school system and I love what you're doing. In my country, the fastest a 4 year college can be completed is 3.5 years, and taking college credits in highschool is basically impossible here except for very very extreme circumstances.
    Your videos inspired me to study fast and efficiently then help others do it too, so we can start our own movement here to change our education and hopefully one day, speedrunning college with good grades can be possible here. Keep up the good work man!

      And for international students, depending on where they’re going for university. I’d say it’s a possibility if you’re aiming for a US university/college that allows the transfer of these credits.
      Say you were to attend University of Minnesota Duluth… they accept these credits. I’d be shocked if they disqualify students just because you aren’t in the US.
      But also something to verify/research with any school (send them an email and they’ll confirm).

    Hey John, this video was amazing. I've been looking into this method for a while now, but there are some gaps that I don't know about yet. I just finished my freshman year in HS, but my school only has a few AP courses and gatekeeps dual enrollment until the 3rd year (even then, you can only take a limited amount). Also, my counselor said the school does not allow students to self-study AP courses that the school doesn't offer (which defeats one of the purposes of self study). How did you get started, and is there a way to get around these restrictions?

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  3 месяца назад +2

      Wow… the blatant lies you were told o_o (or, the counselor doesn’t know-which could very well be the case).
      You can ALWAYS self-study AP exams. Even if your school doesn’t offer it, you can do it on your own. You can actually request your school to facilitate an AP exam if they don’t offer it-I had my school do my AP Macroeconomics since it wasn’t offered (this is just the exam). If they intentionally resist, schedule it with another school that offers AP exams.
      Again, HS doesn’t want you to do dual enrollment since they would lose funding. Sometimes they say it’s only 3rd year, but in reality, you can do it sooner… what state are you in?

    • @tacticalmanx759
      @tacticalmanx759 3 месяца назад

      @@John_Zheng Thanks, I appreciate the very swift reply! I am in PA, but the school is a private school (public schools around are not very good and are located in a bad area, scholarship was also a factor) and the school told me that self-studied AP exams can only be taken on the school campus (hence the "you can only self-study AP exams we offer" reply I received). They claimed they couldn't proctor exams for courses they don't offer. I also tried asking a few months earlier if I could take it at another school, but they said they didn't know of any that would allow me.

  • @VD6608
    @VD6608 3 месяца назад +3

    Hey, I was already interested in self studying AP’s next year, but I have a couple questions for you. You said self studying was easier than most people say, but what scores were you aiming for? Just a passing 3, or were you going for 5’s? Secondly, could you share the routine you used for studying? You said you spent about 3 weeks per AP, but how many hours per day? Thirdly, what APs would you personally recommend to self study?
    Thanks!

    • @John_Zheng
      @John_Zheng  3 месяца назад +3

      I aimed for the passing score. You don't have to be a perfectionist (i.e., "I need to get a 5")--if a 3 works to get your credits, then it takes the pressure off. I typically aimed for a minimum of a 3, but would also score higher.
      My routine was a lot of deepwork sessions. If a subject had 14 chapters, it would take me a day to get through a chapter.
      Meaning, in 2 weeks, I would master the material. Read through it, do practice questions, review, do free online exams, then I just got it out of the way.
      There are a lot of easy AP exams--I'd say Psychology and Economics are pretty simple to start with. Most Uni will require them. Plus, passing these will help you spiral into keeping the momentum going

      Yes, those tend to be the options that you can explore. However, there are also internship credits and other work related opportunities. Dedication is definitely a key factor if you're aiming for graduating in a year.
      You also don't need to be exceptionally dedicated to benefit from trying one of these programs. Taking one CLEP exam could make a difference.
      You're already putting effort into school, so setting aside some time to prepare for some of these can be manageable.
