St Vincent - Caribbean Island - Taxi Ride from the Airport - Sept 2017

  • I video the taxi ride from the airport in St Vincent. Airport code SVD. I am going to my Airbnb. This is finally a new country that I have not been to before. The cost was $23 USD. The local currency is Eastern Caribbean Dollars, but I only had USD. It was starting to get dark and I used my phone to video. So the quality is not as usual.
    Google translate:

La moneda local es el Caribe Oriental Dólares, pero sólo tenía USD. Estaba empezando a oscurecer y usé mi teléfono para video. Así que la calidad no es como de costumbre.

      My condolences! Visit us soon. In Layou, you will have much to see and do. You will have easier access to all the waterfalls, the Vermont nature trails, and The Petroglyphs than many other Vincentians. Some of the best artistes are from Layou. The people of Layou boast that they have the best tasting water on the island.

      My mom visited there in 2013 and said the same thing about the housing. I didn't take her seriously because, as far as I know, St. Vincent is not a rich country. But Richard's video supports what she said about the housing. So I am wondering if this just happened to be well to do neighborhoods that one sees on the way into the capital from the airport or if this is typical housing. Richard will be getting around the island so I hope he can provide some insight.

    • @RichardsWorld
      @RichardsWorld  7 лет назад +2

      Hello. I will make more videos for sure. There are 32 islands of St Vincent, and I was told some islands are for millionaires, and there is an island where the billionaires want to get away from the millionaires. I won't be going there though. I did seem some not so nice houses here, but there are some very nice houses also. I can't really rent a car here. They want an international drivers license, or I have to apply for a temporary license and it is kind of pricey for it.

      @@ZanSMC.473 The problem with Trinidad is that some of the Port of Spain areas are very old and very poor people live there. Unfortunately when the world comes it will see that area because it is in the city. Once you get into the suburbs you can see the difference There are many wealthy areas in Trinidad but if you don't have friends to visit in those areas, how would you know. Another thing with Trinidad, you have to drive off the main roads go see the place properly.. Immigration from all the islands also contribute to some of the poor housing. It surprises me that a lot of our parents or grand or great grandparents came from Guyana, Venuezuela or another island and many move out after a generation or two to the big countries. While the Indians and Syrians keep building their empires there.

      Constance Christescu St Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the few Caribbean island chain that is commercialised. The country is pretty laid back , if you are looking for a slow peaceful retirement this is the country for you. There are many expats living on the mainland and also the smaller island chains. Crime is there however I haven't seen or heard of expat being attacked.

    The one bullshit the British bequated to it's colonies is driving on the left side of the road. I'm surprised that English Caribbean have left it intact even though they live in the part of the world where everybody drives on the right. Nigeria seems to be the only British colony that transitioned from driving from on the left, to driving on the right. That feat was accomplished in the seventies.

      @judycordice7771 6 лет назад +4

      You need to revisit the video. Your accusation is wrong. I did not hear the driver say we are a republic. He said we have been independent since 1979 and still a member of the British Commonwealth. Yes! Being a member of the British Commonwealth, we recognise Queen Elizabeth II as The Head Of The Commonwealth/HEAD OF STATE. She is represented by a GOVERNOR GENERAL. The governor general has MORE power than the PRIME MINISTER because she/he represents QUEEN ELIZABETH 11 hence, one may have noticed we still portray the head/face of Queen Elizabeth II on the E.C currency along with other Caribbean Commonwealth islands.

    That's what you call a beautiful drive abut a 20 to 25 mins drive depending on the traffic to the city from the airport.

    That driver must be saying, this man is the dumbest most uninformed traveler I've every driven. Do ur homework before u go some place new. Congrats on ur new airport. I hope u guys get the traffic so it can pay for itself.

      I asked for making the video and to learn. I make RUclips videos. Did you to notice? Should I not ask the driver questions for the video? Should I pretend like I am the expert and do all the talking? You should think about this and not leave jerk comments.

      It's a video. Explain ur narrative why u r asking these questions. Make it look like u did some homework before u got there.

      Maybe you didn't think about I was just traveling several hours and I make videos like this on the spur of the moment. If I get a driver that I like and he will talk I might make a video like this. I don't plan out a video of driving from the airport. I don't plan out my video of talking to my taxi or Uber drivers. If I am in a car and the person can speak English and is friendly I will ask them if I can make a video. You might not realize how many people are involved in making some of the RUclips videos you see. The better growing channels seem to be a pair of people. I can't easily do things such as video myself eating some food.

      Richard, on the positive side. Make my comments be a listen learned. Pretend the viewer is reading a book. Keep us engaged in a conversation. Not single ended questions. U r not just asking questions for urself. Make me feel part of ur trip. Leave room for him to ask u about urself and where u r from. And exchange. Ur viewer's don't know and don't care if u r tired. At least make fun of ur exhaustion. I felt offended when u ask him if it was safe (homework).
      P.S. the internet is a tuff place. Roll with the punches 😉

      You must have been there before. Because yes there are a lot of mosquitoes there. Some of the other Caribbean Islands don't have as many mosquitoes as St Vincent.

    People from Saint Vincent don't realise that there's not much for tourist to do on the Island. There needs to be a total upgrade of the attractions to get tourist really excited about this place. When asked at 1:38 what are the top things to do here? Check the answers: 1. Climb a volcano. 2. Visit Botanic Gardens 3. See a disused movie set. 4. Visit the waterfalls. 5. Visit The agricultural region. Wow!! Riveting!! To compete for tourist dollars, there needs to be more value added attractions. People remember how they felt, more than anything and tourist will tell their friends the good, the bad and the disappointing. It's time for the tourism department to get real and start traveling to other popular places to get inspired.

    The taxi driver lack proper explanation. Bout cod fish man say breadfruit and salt fish and then explain if the person don't understand. Lack some knowledge in some places

      Your entire interaction with the driver was awkward. All of it. I get that you probably don't realize this, but you have zero social skills or street smarts. You're culturally insensitive, to the point of being a danger to yourself (not reflected in this video, but most of your others). It's a matter of time until something bad happens to you.
