We were really surprised by this updated release. For the pricepoint it's a really solid pour and will be a staple on our shelf as long as we can still get it. Great review as always, Matt!
I purchased a bottle of this and liked it so I figured I’d do some research to see how it compared to other bourbons. I got about 2 mins into this video and loved it already. Feels like this dude does drunk reviews and I’m here for it
Nabbed this for $20.00 (last bottle on the shelf.) This is my 1st bottle of anything Jim Beam and I have to admit (IMO) it's a great 90 proof for the price. An easy enjoyable sipper or mixer. I just hope the stores can keep the price down on it. Classy stylish label too. Worth every penny.
This is my new favorite budget bourbon! The following are my other faves: Early Times, Old Forester 100, Very Old Barton 100, and of course, Evan Williams BiB. (Budget for me is less than $25 for a 750) Honorable mention is JTS Brown BiB. I really like the JB7 even though it is only 90 proof. And I got a 1.75L bottle for $30! The odd thing is that I dislike most Beam products (except Knob9)
This review is right on time for me. I've recently taken to trying more low proof economy whiskeys. I got tired of being schlammered all the time. Thanks for the recommendation.
Just bought some today. Here in Texas it is $33 for a 1.75L bottle which works out to be just over $14 for a 750ml size. Can't beat that bargain for an easy sipper!
I am loving this whisky. Its as good as weller green, green river, and evan small batch my favorite budget whiskies. So good! The past black products were a bit oaky alittle unbalanced not something i would buy. The new one reminded me of a watered down bookers. Vanilla, carmel, and oak simple and simply delicious. Agreed the packaging is insanely well done.
Treated us to a twofer today! JB Black was usually what I’d get at the airport bar when they are out of Woodford. Decent pour. Anxious to try the new 7 year.
Really liked it the first time I had a bottle, 2nd time around now and I still dig it. Should be what people refer to when thinking of Jim Beam! That extra bump in proof and age really helps 😎
It might be considered very upscale if for instance you are tailgating at a country music concert or festival. You can sip it, shoot it, pour it in coke. It can do it all.
I'm moving down the ladder because of the devaluation of the dollar and 7 years Jim beam black works well for my business ps I love your cool bar and lighting
Yours either me an idea for some content. You could theme a few of your live streams…. Maybe towards the end of the year… around thanksgiving…. Blinds tasting of scores throughout the year… 7-7.9, 6-6.9, or maybe 5.5-6.5 just to see if your scores and rankings and see if they score higher or lower than tasting them alone
I like this just fine over a big cube while grilling out. That said WT101 fits the same bill and is only a couple bucks more. Won't replace WT101 but I'll probably buy another one day.
Took a bottle of this on a recent camping trip. I typically don't like any of the Beam specific bourbons but wanted to try this...mainly because the bottle looked cool. It's...ok. Still not a fan of anything Beam...other than double oaked. It's decent as a mixer but I didn't care to sip it.
Hey Matt, I hope all is well. Got me a bottle of this recently and I think it's ok, but more for people who like Beam. I am more of a KC, EC, OF, EW ,WT, etc guy myself but I was low on funds. I will soldier on and drink it. Cheers Matt!
I've gone through a $20 Jim Beam Single Barrel 54% ABV faster than any bottle in a long time. Flucuates between $20-30 in KY. Went back and bought two more bottles the next day.
Its a different flavor profile, but I prefer the JB Black xtra aged and now the 7 year over JD #7. I like that they bumped the proof up, and think its a great budget bottle. I think its a solid mixer that carries some nice flavor for the price.
Purchased today at a Sam’s Club in California for $18-something. Crazy low price. After tasting I would still prefer Evan Williams bottled in bond white label over this as far as a budget bourbon, but my final verdict is why did I waste my money at all? I have waaaay better pours on the shelf and I drink less alcohol than I used to. For me if I’m going to have a pour, why waste my time and health over this bottle? Not worth it IMHO
Question: What are your feelings on keeping a bottle of bourbon but not opening it until 10 years from now???? Thank You. I recently found bottles of Wild Turkey Spiced in a liquor store. They stopped making it in 2014. It tasted great even though the cork was slightly deteriorated. I had to strain a few cork particles out of it.
Now that you're a high rolling Master Blender there's something you should know. When you say something is, "not bad"...you still have to use the word, "bad" to describe it. 😁😆😆
I'm actually surprised we haven't seen that comparison yet! (A couple weeks back I actually suggested this exact comparison to a channel and they said they might do it blind.) And, a few days back, I suggested to a different channel that I'd like to see the Beam 7 against the discontinued Beam Double Aged 8Y. (The guy said he might be able to get 'hold of the 8Y.) But, so far as I know, none of these comparisons have been done.
@@Best_Served_Neat_On_Ice I haven't either and I'm looking because the 7 year isn't available in my state and might not be for awhile but the extra aged is just sitting on the shelf for less than 30 bucks
Hey appreciate all your vids. Can’t help but notice a bunch of whiskey RUclipsrs reviewing this one on the last few days- is Jim beam pushing this via paid promo or some marketing partnership? Won’t change the value of your vids, just curious.
There is more bourbon on the shelf than ever before, but finding whiskey to review that can appeal to a large audience is harder than ever. With allocation, price increases, and limited distribution, it is almost impossible to review a bottle without people complaining. When a legacy distillery releases or makes changes to an easy to find, yet intriguing bourbon that is new, cheap, and available to everyone, it is a no brainer for a reviewer to pick up a bottle and shoot a video for it. Not only was I curious about a cheap 7 year bourbon, but it was kind of nice to release a video for a sub $30 bottle. I'm sure other channels feel the same way.
Would love to see this blinded against its contemporaries: Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek 9, Elijah Craig Small Batch, Wild Turkey 101, etc..
Since we retired, we've been touring the Bourbon Trail and JB was the first distillery we toured. JB Black, along with Knob Creek 9 yr were my favorites. I really enjoyed the Black.
For me between this and BT is an absolute tossup, down to the mood I'm in. For what I generally like, turkey will take it but that's got 5% more alcohol in it so not necessarily super fair haha
Not sure about other states, but here in California you don't have to be a member of Sam's Club or Costco to purchase alcohol from them. They do have to escort you to the liquor section from the door, though, which is always awkward.
Dang it Matt. You can't take a fat guy watching who's trying and failing to diet and throw around terms like Boston Baked Beans. Now I'm like well I haven't had those in 30 years, maybe I should get some ...
Had my first glass of this a couple of weeks ago. Nothing sticks out about it. Not impressed for $30. Way too many other bourbons out there better for this price. For $20, it would be a different story. They really missed the mark when pricing this in MI.
We would pour out Old Fashioneds after a fish fry...and Jim Beam Black (Extra Aged) and Jim Beam - Red Stag (Black Cherry) were two of the favorites of our "cheap bourbon" flights. We also used Four Roses (yellow label)...my wife's favorite...Maker's Mark (the majority favorite)...Evan Williams 1783 and BinB (meh) and Rebel (meh). So for an inexpensive mixer...Black is just fine. Not a sipper neat or on ice...there are other products for that. And since we were at a church...had to keep the proof point in check. ⛪😉 As I was the sole supplier of the booze...I needed to stay cheap! At home, I prefer Buffalo Trace, Old Forester 100 (Rye and Bourbon), and WT 101 (Rye and Bourbon). Another great option was a mix of Buffalo Trace and Sazerac Rye...tasty all the way around! Cheers !!! 🥃
Watched, picked up a bottle. Must be a BAD bottle…..just horrible, I hate to say. Feel like I’m drinking an $8 bottle. Wild Turkey is 100x better for a daily drinker.
I'm not a Bourbon Beginner... and I think this would check the boxes for any Bourbon Veteran. I love the glossy black "BLACK" against the matte black. "That's one nutty river". LMAO!
I love the fact that I’m never sure if he’s already drunk or not.
We were really surprised by this updated release. For the pricepoint it's a really solid pour and will be a staple on our shelf as long as we can still get it. Great review as always, Matt!
"Warm box" absolutely killed me
Big Fan of the JB Black. I still have a JB8 from the olden days. It might be time to do a blind with the 7&8.

Happiness is a "Warm Box" !! 🤩
I just bought a 1.75 for $32 at Specs in TX. Great bottle for the price. It tastes good neat, but mixes so well.
Just started watching recently and it is my first time seeing your studio and i absolutely dig it man. Love the content
This bourbon is my flask, mix and regular pour bourbon. Right along side old forester 100. Great everyday mixer/sipper
I appreciate the $2 50ml bottles of this I might use some for my infinity blend

Are you a bowler? I recognize your t-shirt. That's the logo for Radical bowling's The Hitter ball. I use several Radical pieces in my arsenal. 😊
You talked me into buying the tiny sample. Pretty soon. So happy to see you and I must say you look marvelous! Thank you Matt!

Matt, you look great! I look forward to getting myself a bottle of Jim Beam Black 7 Year. Thanks for the video because I'm very curious about it!
WOWZWERS!!! I didn't catch it at first, but once I really got in there uo close with the ol sniffer, I could definitely smell the Boston Baked Beans.
Been drinking Bourbon for 15 yrs. Beam Black is still my favorite
I love when I find that "warm box" note in bourbon 😂

JB single barrel is $40 in the Chicago area. Just ridiculous.
@@xiamengbaby Got two more Single Barrels and a 7 Yr Black for $19 each at Kroger. Maybe make a trip to KY with a trailer and stock up... ;-)

"Not a bad bourbon". Your exuberance for the Beam is awe-inspiring. I feel the same way. Not my jam. Nice review my brother.
That is a sweet looking bottle, I'll give it that.
mmmmmm, love me some MDF flavors... That said, kudos for including the "extra aged" label comparison. This probably makes a great mixer.
Haven't had it yet..but will try it soon
First pour was rough but after the neck it got better
I tried this and found it a bit harsh on the back end. I will try it again to see if it improves like tonight.
Wild, I find this to be so astonishingly rounded and approachable, nary a single harsh moment at all for me
I loved the harsh back lash made me feel like grandfather hugs
I finally, finally found this today. 24 out the door. I gotta say... possibly new budget king? It's softer than the usual Beam rye spice
Best budget whiskey for the $ is still Benchmark Bonded in my mind, this ain't beating that......

I shop at Sam's to buy the coffee, chicken , steaks and Jim Beam Black Label 7 year for $20. oo including Tax..
Warm box lol? I haven't had a warm box in a long time, what is that like again?
One of the best bourbons I’ve had for around $20
I just got my first Benchmark Bonded and head over heels for it for a 20 bottle idk it can beat that

I'm eating Boston Baked Beans Candy has I watch this review
I’m not hearing any reason to not just go with WT101 at about $20.
You know that they say: Once you go JB Black, you don’t go back to the JB White?
The difference is very much similar to the difference between Johnny Walker Red and Black. Red is swill, Black is a nice whisky.
I like it better than Wild Turkey 101.
Has decent oily body, sweet, complex flavor profile, nice finish...Happy Ending!
I tried this bottle it’s good not great but good for the $$.
It was good, but lacked depth and was too thin, so was something id never buy again. Just picked up some Jim Beam Lineage, so much better.
Jim beam 7 or buffalo trace?
Still got an aged and ore code?
