A son's destiny... to overcome his father, to be better, not just physically but mentally AND emotionally. To take all the knowledge and experience, he taught and gave us, and apply it to the next generation.
My father gave me the freedom he never had as a child, now I wish to pass on this freedom to my child in the future.

Kratos is one of the best written characters in video games. He made two knives for his son forged from metals of his homeland. A representation of the past he tries so hard to not relive but keeps showing back up in the people he faces in the present. Such a great story.

True strength comes from the heart & spirit. A true warrior never slashes like other power hungry fools. He is reserved. He has control over weapon. Calm like the ripples on the water and becomes like a storm to those who are power hungry and ruthless. He does not let the power hold him. He holds the power. That is his strength.

HELL YEAH! Love to be early to these.
Edit: Okay so, Kratos has always been interesting in what he does and what he wants for Atreus. Some people argue that the “Slayer of the Olympians” shouldn’t suddenly be some caring father, well I say otherwise.
Kratos himself DENIES THE FATES. He refuses the cycle of murder, neglect, he himself is better than the Olympians that came before, but he is tainted by what they were and for that, there is only ONE way for a proper god to made, it cannot be himself. He’s good but he needs to be better, and he can’t, purely because of taint. Atreus, is that better version of himself, or at the very least he wants him to be.
Kratos is such a badass he decided to flip a middle finger to fate and be a good father.

    • @joshmoonXY
      @joshmoonXY 2 года назад +4

The only thing I disagree with is Kratos is tainted due to his actions under the influence of impenetrable rage and feelings of vengeance, rather than being tainted by the greed and selfishness and vindictiveness of the Olympian gods.
His rage made him do monstrous things that he can never take back or redeem.
Maybe the only way he could do that is to teach his son to be better. To not let rage consume you and turn you into a monster.
Some say the Olympian gods made Kratos a monster. I say it was his rage. It had consumed him and warped him.
And I think Kratos just wants to make sure his son it's never consumed and warped by his own anger.
"Be better than me." Means do not let rage devour you like it did to Kratos.

    "Be better than me."
To me, Kratos is saying be more than he was, better than he was, better than an embodiment of rage and anger that only destroys everything around him.
To me, Kratos wants his son to be above the dangerous snarls of furious anger fueled by the savagery of vengeance.
To me, Kratos wants his son to be above the things that made him(Kratos) a monster.
Kratos wants his son to be more than the things that him (Kratos) *less*

They really took God of War series into a nice turn with the norse ride haven't they? I read the first line and I was thinking about the old games. I mean God of war 3 was so brutal and vengeful which usually ( at least to me xD ) ends up turning on yourself very bad.
But in the latest runs kratos seeks some redemption through his son and at the same time he searches his own soul.

I think it’s amazing that Kratos breaks the stereotype of “Gods being selfish and egotistical”. Yes he’s done bad things, but he wants to truly redeem himself. The fact that he actively shapes and tells his son to not be like one of those stereotypical God’s is amazing. He’s a well written character through and through

    Long Quote:
“At that moment, when I had the TV sound off, I was in a 382 mood; I had just dialed it. So although I heard the emptiness intellectually, I didn't feel it. My first reaction consisted of being grateful that we could afford a Penfield mood organ. But then I realized how unhealthy it was, sensing the absence of life, not just in this building but everywhere, and not reacting-do you see? I guess you don't. But that used to be considered a sign of mental illness; they called it 'absence of appropriate affect.' So I left the TV sound off and I sat down at my mood organ and I experimented. And I finally found a setting for despair. So I put it on my schedule for twice a month; I think that's a reasonable amount of time to feel hopeless about everything, about staying here on Earth after everybody who's smart has emigrated, don't you think?”
~Philip K Di**(I know it's just his last name, but youtube be auto-deleting comments for no reason, so censored it)
He wrote this in a philosophical work, "Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep?"
    A great novel.
