    What happened to AC? Where are the moody, melancholic, and introspective parts?
    I miss all of them. The Assassins. The Templars.
    All of them doing what they truly felt was right; not for glory or pride... but because they believed in a cause. An idea. A feeling.
    I do not get the same feeling from the newer games. I do not learn new things, or look at the world in a different light with each entry.
    They simply are. And I can't be the only one that feels like that, right? Or am I relic of a time long gone? I don't know.

    • @grimmjow0106
      @grimmjow0106 2 года назад +11

      I hear that. Ezio/Desmond/Altair were the assassin Creed games/experiences. During that time you had developers in control of the decision making and passionate about the project. Now you have a company run by multi millionaires and multi billionaires that is simply running a multibillion dollar company making decisions for the project from nothing more than a business exploitive mindset. If consumers do not keep businesses in check and hold them accountable, businesses get greedy and they exploit consumers ignorance or laziness or compromises. Which is why nowadays you have out of touch multi millionaires and multi billionaire CEOs making all the decisions for these projects from my standpoint that benefits them and the company the most profit wise. And that’s why there is a constant trend of live service business models and season/battle pass gimmicks with micro transactions store fronts. The focus from the original assassin Creed days, that focus and decision-making no longer exist. Consumers got jaded and lazy, business CEOs took more and more decision making control from a self interest standpoint….. and now we have these pretty/beautiful empty worlds devoid of identity and true immersion. It’s just empty and shallow.

      @@grimmjow0106 I loved AC 3. Felt like a genuine attempt at innovation and still felt like there was a spark of passion put into it.
      Been playing through Unity, and it's such a beautifully realized setting that I am beginning to regret not playing it at launch; it feels like Ubi loved that game when they built it. The new ones just don't feel loved by their creators, and I don't think that's a business-specific issue... there's only so long you can continue to make several different games that are basically all the same without feeling burnt out by them. Their creative teams just seem tired of the series, and I find that really unfortunate.
      It feels like Ubi doesn't love any of their IPs anymore. As a creative, I've felt it before, so it's not hard to pick up the signs in other projects/pieces of media.

    • @grimmjow0106
      @grimmjow0106 2 года назад +3

      @@someguy1365 I respect that perspective. And you very well could be onto something there. I think it’s blatantly obvious that there is definitely not the same love and passion being put into these projects anymore compared to the series from the past. But I feel like there is a distinct line where you can see a D-evolution happening. Maybe I shouldn’t say to Stephens but a blatant gradual escalation that occurs. It seems like it started after the Dezmin/Ezio arc. The emphasis of the Templars and the assassins both in present and previous timelines. The fictional but grounded in plausibility of a precursor generation with advanced technology and cataclysmic events. There is a very fanciful but real believability grounded there that was the premise of the whole adventure and journey or such.
      But to my mind I see a gradual decline of decision making coming from the developers/creative leaders working on a project… And it seems to be shifting to where the decision making is coming from out of touch CEO minds that have a clear focus on business/profit concepts. At least that feels pretty obvious to me just based off the pattern of what we used to have compared to what we have now.
      This micro transaction shift that began occurring in the recent projects, the insane focus on huge sandboxes with micro transactions stores. Then eventually not just the micro transactions stores but the purchasing of a project with a season pass system in place. And now with the new project it’s adding to that season pass system and micro transactions store, a complete live service model where it’s like goin to be this live Internet only formula where you subscribe/pay to access the main server and content is just flowing in and out of there. Like a destiny/MMO thing. And yet it’s still supposed to be a single player experience except it’s always online and there are other people there. It’s The next step in their live service adaptation that they’re trying with this assassin‘s creed online. But the heart of this kind of decision making is out of touch from the actual project. It’s business minded decision-making that is latching on to a seeable trend when it comes to exploitation with the consumer and what the consumer has become jaded to and will allow. You look at Gta Online, Activision with its warzone in call of duty projects, fortnite, halo, etc. there is a trend of implementing these live service systems as it means great profit for you the CEO and company. Warzone is a free to play a game that makes three to $4 billion dollars on a annual basis. At least it was annual as of last year, I think now it’s quarterly. And that’s free to play. Halo implemented this battle pass system with their multiplayer now as well as a micro transaction store, it’s all complete shit to me and yet if you’re able to actually get in a game because of that broken shit going on there, you’ll see people who paid $20 or whatever for fucking cat ears ‘s and shit. You wonder why this exploitation with these live service systems continues, but people have normalized it so much now that they actually are OK with supporting and enabling this kind of bullshit. Doesn’t make any sense to me but the reason all these multi billion dollar companies are adopting it, is because it’s crazy profit for them. Ubisoft is a multi billion dollar company. And the CEOs who are multi millionaires and multi billionaires, are simply trying to follow the correct business trends that allow for the maximum amount of profit for them. You can’t fault the business for putting self first, which is why consumers have to keep them in check and hold them accountable.
      Unfortunately consumers do not treat the multi multi billion dollar game industry with the multi billion dollar Game business companies the same way they treat all types of businesses in real life. When it comes to your clothing stores or movie theaters or mechanic shops or restaurants or hotels etc. consumers have a expectation and a standard requirement that they expect to be met. And if it is not… We leave. That’s how you lose a consumer and that kind of understanding and mentality is what keeps businesses in real life in check so that they meet the appropriate expectations and requirements. But when it comes to a multi billion dollar business company making a game project, consumers don’t hold that standard. And these CEOs know this. They know they can exploit the project and exploit the consumer, and whether you complain or whether you justify an excuse… Both sides will compromise and will not go anywhere. You’ll continue to put up with it, support it, and wait for the eventual game you bought some months or years down the road. It’s really pathetic when you think about it.
      I’m digressing, this stuff is just so blatantly obvious to me when it comes to the kind of decision making going on for these projects with these multi billion dollar companies. With the talent, the technology, and the multiple upon multiple upon multiple lifetimes worth of financial backing that could be used to invest in the success of these projects in a passionate way, you don’t see any of that. All you see is exploitation which benefits the company and not the project and not the consumer. And that system is becoming injected more and more into everything, now even into single player games for live service content. It’s a bad direction that completely destroys the project and its identity or immersion and hurts the consumer as well. Anyway
      I’ve ranted and said way more than I should. Sorry for the stupid long read here.

      @@grimmjow0106 No worries. Gaming is in a dangerous spot with the nature of its audience; usually children/younger folks.
      The sort of audience that is impressionable and prone to poorly managing their money, so it creates a feedback loop where the company can continually profit off that willfulness. I'll admit that I am guilty of this, too. I have more money invested into Destiny 2 than I have any other game, but the times a DLC comes out are some of my weakest times; I can only justify it because I am getting varied and interesting content and decent goals to grind for... It's why I have almost 5k hours in it. That being said, being better starts with me, so I quit buying into a lot of the yearly franchises and consolidated all my time into Destiny.

    Assassins Creed is my all time favorite video game franchise. And although I'm now on the side of the Templars because of Haytham and Shay, I will not not deny the fact there are honorable assassins throughout.
    Altair
    Ezio
    Edward
    Connor
    Arno
    And so on....
    And even though I don't share their philosophy anymore, they have my respect.

    • @someguy1365
      @someguy1365 2 года назад

      I still believe myself firmly on their side, but I will ask why you've chosen this. I would like to see the other side, if you don't mind? There are a lot of great questions to be asked, and the only way to challenge one's beliefs is to see the other side.

    • @legohunter1020

      @@someguy1365 Well, just as Haytham has stated, Templars only want order, purpose and direction. And they believe that freedom is a gateway to chaos. At that point, I didn't know what to think about it. Alluring, yes, but not enough to switch sides.
      Then I experienced Shay.
      The assassins believing they had the liberty to destroy a city, just to keep an artifact from Templar hands? It was crude and inhumane. I then thought back to what Haytham said to Connor on that rooftop and had a change of heart.
      The freedom that assassins desperately hold onto will not end well for them.
      I've been a Templar ever since. Perhaps if more assassins were more like Altair and Arno, and not Abbos and Belec, then perhaps I may not have switched sides.
      Maybe...
      But the past won't ever change. As I've learned from it.
      May the Father of Understanding guide us.

    • @someguy1365
      @someguy1365 2 года назад +2

      @@legohunter1020 I see.
      I think Haytham was easily one of the most grey Templars to ever live. He and Shay are also very, very similar in that regard.
      But, personally... what Shay did to kick off Unity... that wasn't the mark of a man that wanted to do the right thing. I feel like the Templar creed warped him over time.
      Shay may have been grey once, but I don't think he stayed that way.
      Also, the Assassins didn't realize the damage they were doing. Achilles and Shay's friend came to the realization during the final moments of the game. It was rather unfortunate that the others were all too willing to give up their scruples, and needed to die for the betterment of the colonies.
      It pains me to say it, but Assassins, much like Templars, do more harm than good sometimes. This is an unfortunate side effect of Freedom, and you're right:
      Freedom does not end well for all, unfortunately. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be treasured. I would gladly die this instant if it meant another man, woman, or child was free from the tyranny, pain, and abuse of another.
      I don't think any man or woman is perfect enough to preach order and purpose to other imperfect people.
      What I like about the Assassins is how much they treasure imperfection. How much they truly believe they are responsible for themselves, and that no one is going to save them from their foolishness. It's up to them tolearn, grow, and change... and I really appreciate their refusal to allow another to do that for them.

    Tbh I've played pretty much all of the Assassin's Creed up until after origins. I've always had love and excitement for the franchise throughout the years. But now the emotion I have towards it is somewhat unexplainable. Yet it makes me feel lucky to experience and happy, yet disappointed in something I do not know yet. Maybe one day if I find that piece I'll remember to comeback here and share it with the rest of the world.
