      The engine controls ARE on stbd even if they don't look it in the video! If you notice the writing in the video (name, home port on the transom, B&G on the covers) they're all back to front so the first part of the video has, for some reason, been flipped. It means that what appears to be stbd is actually port and vice versa.

    In terms of versatility and price range, is Boreal 44 well comparable to Garcia 45?

    • @paulnorman8274
      @paulnorman8274 Год назад +5

      The "bones" are similar. They're both "all seas and all seasons" boats designed and built by those with the most personal experience doing such things (Frenchies).
      Beyond that, the choices made, are ultimately very different. The Garcia is laid out for an experienced couple (Cornells and others), with the ability to carry guests and crew as needed/wanted. The Boreal for extended living aboard while raising children. Even if they can both be used outside of those niches, that ultimately makes for very different flows.
      There are other differences as well. The Garcia is, and sails like, a more "normal" boat. The Boreal is its own tangent off of the tangent that is French centerboarders. Not better nor worse per se. But different.
      Ultimately though: Whether you prefer one or the other; will likely come down to whether you want to stand watch in a segregated doghouse, or in the main accommodation. The inside watch station, are the USP of both these boats. For an experienced couple cruising by themselves; it may not make sense to spend their remaining sailing years only saying hi as they pass eachother on the way back and forth to a doghouse to stand watch. But if you, OTOH, have three kids doing homework and projects at the main table; that may not be the best place to steer the boat from, at night when light discipline is necessary.

      @@SVTONICBoatWives I disagree…a lifting keel is a very different thing than a centerboard. The lifting keel has the bulk of the ballast contained in it. Lifting the centerboard changes nothing in regards to the ballast.
