    I've had a Polestar 2 for 5 months now and it's awesome. Easily the best car I've ever had. And until this year, Polestar only had one model to sell (with several variations). Now they have three, with Polestar 3 and 4 deliveries starting this year. I think they are quite well positioned for the next few years.

Basically Ford and GM fumbled the ball on their EV roll out.

    Polestar 3 will be produced in the US, test production is already going and full scale will commence in the summer. The 3 is already coming off the lines in China for the Asian and presumably middle-eastern markets. The US factory will supply the US and Europe. The Polestar 4 will be produced in China and in South Korea for the US market. I think they've got a shot at taking some significant market shares away from others in the luxury EV-segment as they are backing down or slowing down.

    Luxury brand buyers can generally charge at home and not have to depend upon the still growing DCFC infrastructure. If they need to take a road trip where the lack of charging stations would be an issue, they may have a second or even third ICE car available. They can wait out the buildout of the charging network and can show off their luxury EV in the interim.

    I get what you mean by people not seeing the difference between Polestar and say Tesla, looking at the price tags of the two and then struggling to see the justification for Polestar charging $10k more for their vehicles.
    I struggle with their options. The base of the P2 doesn't come with adaptive cruise or lane keeping. That's something that comes standard on ICE cars much cheaper. Same with the glass roof. That comes standard on a Tesla.
    They do drive nicer than a Tesla though, but that's not always something people appreciate.

  • @beautifulgirl219
    @beautifulgirl219 3 месяца назад +10

    Last I heard California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington passed laws banning the sale of new ICE cars beginning 2035. Who would want to buy one within a few years of that date? Resale, value, maintenance, all sorts of issues are possible. Legacy auto needs to be building a strong position TODAY to be competitive in 2035. You don't wait to the last minute or you are road kill. Golden parachute execs are cutting the throats of employees by not leading on BEVs. The most high-selling car model of 2023 was the Tesla Model Y. It is unfathomable that legacy auto ignores that fact while whistling on the wave to the grave, taking employees and stockholders with them. That's no way to run a car company.

I might not know how to run a coffee shop, but I was an engineer for one of the (fading) Japanese car companies and I recognise the problem with legacy auto was trying to make EVs 'on the cheap' by adapting ICE designs and construction. Any design has compromises, and Tesla has shown what is possible with a 'clean sheet' approach.
      I was a GM fan when they brought out their EV1. It worked well. Not perfect but for a 'first off' it was brilliant. Then they scrapped the program. That was the dumbest decision in automotive history, made by your esteemed 'experienced car professionals'.

    Polestar sales are poor this year in the U.K. -73% February and year to date according to SMMT similarly Volvo are also down 2%. The biggest problem for EVs in the U.K. is do they have brand presence with Business and Fleet units, who can offset their cost through the taxation system. Less than 1 in 5 EVs are brought privately and there is a customer tendency to buy from traditional brands they are familiar with.

So it gets expensive if you break the mileage limits. BMW and Mini are going gang busters both with significant rise in sales up 46% and 35% respectively, their strategy to increase prices to maintain vehicle residual value appears to be working.

    Sam,
    I recently leased a 2024 Polestar 2 LRDM because the state legislature here in backwards South Carolina prohibits Tesla from leasing/selling its cars because Tesla does not have a dealership store in the state. I have driven a Tesla Model S finding it lacking in build quality. The Polestar 2 lease is a great deal because the $7,500 credit applies to leased vehicles in SC and Polestar is selling the LRDM for the same price as the single motor for a period of time in the US. We also own/lease a 2023 Mercedes EQS SUV for the past 15 months, so we are familiar with EV’s. Previously owning both BMW and Audi ICE vehicles, I agree with your point that Polestar is every bit as good a vehicle of high quality manufacturing as the German vehicles at a favorable price.

As soon as digital cameras were even close in quality and price/performance (happened around 2007 with the Canon EOS 1S) the industry completely flipped to digital within a couple of years. Ask those still working for Kodak - the inventor of the digital camera - how continuing with business as usual worked for them? The company was afraid of cannibalizing their own film business and failed to accurately see the scale and rapidity of the coming shift. Kodak went from the Fortune 500 to a penny stock in the span of a single decade.

    EVs are like any new tech. They’re going through the ‘technology hype cycle’. We’ve been through the ‘peak of inflated expectations’ where everyone thinks they solve world peace. we’re now in the ‘trough of disillusionment’ where flaws reveal themselves. Next we will go through the ‘slope of enlightenment’ where we come terms with reality including shortcomings and finally the ‘plateau of productivity’ where EVs take their realistic place in the car market. Every new tech goes through this.

    Related to mandated vehicle electrification, two interesting points are worth mentioning. First, there are three major law firms in Washington which lobby our EPA to impose EV-related legislation. As it turns out, these law firms are partly funded by the CCP which undoubtedly intends to steer (no pun intended) new environmental legislation towards dependence on China (facilitating a huge demand for Lithium-Ion batteries and eventually Chinese EVs as well). Second, despite Americans being at times accused of arrogance, actually China's CCP clearly displays this characteristic. The CCP's ideology is based largely on their philosophy that "China is operating under a mandate from heaven to rule the world ... and not only does China have the right but also an obligation to do so". This is definitely an arrogant perspective and demonstrates a complete disregard for any other country's national sovereignty. In addition, China claims Beijing to be the world's "center of thought". Yet, if this were true then why does China continually resort to hacking our government/business computer systems (to gain valuable information and disrupt society), infiltrating social media (in efforts to influence American citizens), and outright plagiarizing products (such as Rolex watches, Gucci handbags, Lego kits, military equipment, numerous automotive designs, and even Disney cartoon characters)? Sadly, the vast majority of Americans refuse to recognize that China is engaged in what they actually call "the 100 year war" to gain global control using a wide variety of covert and overt tactics ...

    I agree demand is not the biggest problem. demand just needs to follow supply. currently most EV ar eable to sell. demand can tip quite quickly if ev production costs keep going down a'd charging keeps getting easier and quicker. most people will consider purchase price is hardly higher, if not equal of lower,combined with lower maintenance cost, lower cost per mile, most people living in single family house can be potential buyers. also price is not a hard limit. people keep biying more and more SUVs despite being more expensive than sedans.
    this means demand is not gling to grow linearly, its hoing to explode. the only question is when/how quick.
    once ev become cheaper to produce manifacturers will be able to lower cost and spend more in advertising.

    Do you think that the legacy makers, at least some, have identified the very high cost of transitioning ? Have you considered that those costs need to be financed? Is it possible that legacy makers have to transition over a longer period to meet the cost ?
    I am not saying that all legacy and electric manufactures will be airbus in 10 years, but some legacy makers may make it through and have used the profits from seeking ICE vehicles to do so.

    When you say EV's are poised to dominate the market, could you perhaps be overlooking the recharging infrastructure? It is by no means easy at this point, esp if you are driving an EV not made by Tesla. I have a few months of EV ownership so am used to planning my trips in line with the proximity of chargers on my route, but am still finding myself stuck with low charge at an EV charging station that has failed due to some random glitch. If I'm lucky I can wait 30 mins to an hour for the one available charger (and hope it's working when it's my turn) or I can take a chance that the next charging station 30 minutes away will have a charger that actually works. I love my EV, but until the recharging infrastructure becomes more reliable, I definitely understand the reported hesitancy of most buyers.

    The false premise again is that the corporations care - about falling behind. Even if the corporation fails no one at the top loses. They have no reason to change anything. They aren't car makers they are credit corporations. So the moron is the person that doesn't understand this.
    They don't care about people, cars, water, air, winning, losing or anything else because they don't have to care.
    Once you understand this, you will be able to see the reality of the game that you all love so much. There is no game, you aren't grown up enough to understand what the sick people at the top have been doing - and they know it - and they are laughing at you all the way to the bank. because in the end that is all they care about.
    They set it up so that no matter what, they get paid.
    Eat the rich, make a better world.

    Sure the Polestar CEO heads a company that hasn't ever made a dime selling EVs; and that is with subsidies. It is one thing to embrace EVs as a good alternative for some and but it is not sensible to suggest EVs can replace ICE or Hibreds any time soon; due to a lack of Lithium production alone. Current Lithium refined annually is 169,000 tons. This is only enough to make 12 million Model Ys if you made no cellphones etc. So Lets say 8 million realistically - this suggests Lithium production would need to rise by 10x in order to have enough to replace ICE/hibreds and to what end? EVs are heavier; they take 10x more mining to make; green? Not very.

    • @casperhansen826
      @casperhansen826 3 месяца назад

      Actually they take 1/100th mining to drive, so very green indeed compared to the very black oil production

    • @litestuffllc7249
      @litestuffllc7249 3 месяца назад

      @@casperhansen826 Unless you are one of the few with your own solar panels enough to charge your car every day then that isn't true because the grid is not green; even the very best countries are pretty grey or black on their grids; and the grid loses a further 15% in transmission of the electricity; in most countries that wipes out the solar and wind contribution. Now if your comparision is a BMW 3 series you probably still edge it some but if you are comparing to the new Prius - your probably behind, especially if it is a PHEV which could also be charged by rooftop solar.
