Love it. I have a Polestar 2 and I am looking forward to test driving this car. It looks amazing and I like the fact that it doesn't have mass appeal. I strive to stand out a bit.
being an Delivery guy, I drove trucks and vans in all the big cities in the Northeast. Boston, Hartford, NYC, Philly, Baltimore, and DC. Even did Richmond once. The lack of a rear window was in no way an issue.
The only issue I have with no rear windscreen comes from being a driver behind the 4. I like to look through the vehicles in front of me to see what traffic is doing. Nice to see if people ahead are braking or not.
We've seen walkthroughs already and there's a lot more to talk about than the no rear window. Time to drive this car already and talk about how it drives.
Astute observation. I guess this under employed young lady is just filling her day with a bloke and an iPhone eating free Polestar UK coffee and buns. Pity they don’t even have a RHD car! This has been running for months.
It's a great looking car - in fact since the polestar 1 and 2 they've really shown up the previous designs while building on them - quite a feat. I like the thought that has gone in to the design and features; the only demerit is that the numbering scheme is chronological rather than segment based (which is fine). The lack of rear window creates some issues as the other commenters have pointed out, and it's too big and expensive for me but the issues also make it stand out in a segment (blobby electric SUVs) which is getting over stuffed and a bit bland. I hope it drives well and turns out to be a performance saloon disguised as an SUV ;)

What is it with car interior design? Do we really need screens in the middle of the vehicle where they are a distraction to the driver? I own enough screens already, I don’t need them in the car. Most driving related ‘changes’ should be done whilst stationary and why do we need such large screen real estate? Screen envy gone mad. I look forward to when manufacturers realise ‘less is more’ and the interior can revert to being a place to relax whilst driving WITHOUT distractions, but with ergonomic, sleek, unobtrusive refined luxury.

@@tomooo2637 Truth with your own opinion sprinkled. SUV is usually a premium segment, that is true, but - not quite the case here. Polestar 4 in most cases comes out cheaper fully specced, because they do not offer 10.000 different options and exterior colors.
I tested a rear view camera on the Subaru Solterra and found it very difficult to use with my varifocal glasses, you need to focus close for the rear view mirror screen (like say reading the map screen), however by looking up it is in the wrong place on the glasses. Maybe putting the screen somewhere in the dashboard would work? As for class competition, beware this is over 6ft 6in wide so it does match the I-PACE and cars like the EQE/EQS or iX. The GV60 is narrower and more suited to European city driving together with its direct competitors (Model Y, ID4, Enyaq, Ariya, Ioniq 5, EV6 etc etc). I believe the EQC has been withdrawn from sale in the UK and EU.

It's huge! Car manufacturers are losing control of themselves. Going on about sustainable while building a massive car like this. Polestar should be very embarrassed about it not proudly showing it off.
The centre point of sales is not Europe anymore, it's China, US, Gulf countries, developing Asia, Africa, Australia where large cars appetite is exploding
Polestar makes the best looking EVs. Also great quality. I'll definitely take this one for a test drive and check what it is like to have no rear window.

Love to know how it fits and if his head hits roof in back seat or if he can sit behind himself. Beautiful car though overall.
Stunning looks - I could spend hours just looking at it. Bizarrely reminds me of my father’s Rover SD1 (also white and with rather nice optional alloys) from 40+ years ago. I might be able to get used to not having the back window, but having to go through the screen for anything apart from volume control would drive me mad, not to mention the whole issue of have to take your eyes off the road; I thought manufacturers were getting the message that many people prefer knobs and at least mixing things up a bit, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking. The biggest problem for me, personally, is not being able to put the dog in the boot, meaning I have to choose between the kids and the dog. Let me think about that for a moment…
I dont get why they've not included a rear window. Can't be for weight as its so heavy anyway. Can't be for cost as its expensive and they've had to include a HD camera, fancy mirror etc. Can't be for ease as surely having to flip a mirror to see the back seats and then struggle to see through a dirty camera is not easier. Also, I get the screen is fancy but you're driving along and your partner wants to move their seat. Is the driver going to have to go through the menu system, find their seat and slide the adjustments until they are comfy? That said, it looks better than a Genesis or I-Pace and I would take a polestar over either of those.
The lack of rear window is a feature. Regardless of what they say, they've built it without a rear window to both set it apart from its competitors, and to give it better lines than them as well. It instantly makes the car feel more premium.
They did it because they wanted the Coupe roofline without the Coupe-compromise (head room, horrible rear window). So they just removed the rear window and extended the panorama glass while they were at it.
SUV EVs like the Model Y and X use a blobby shape to extend the range further but the rear window visibility and backseat passenger comfort is bad because they’re positioned at the tail end of an egg shaped car.
A great looking car. Looks nice, need some driving reviews of course. But what I don't understand is why there isn't any coverage of this car's bigger, older, original brother, the Zeekr 001. You can already buy it in European markets, it has the same motors and battery, the suspension might be the same (that's where some coverage would be great to confirm or deny that one), back and front seats are the same. The starting price for both is similar however Zeekr 001 seems to be a much better deal the more equipment you get as it tops out at about than 70k where as this can go up to 100k with all the options (mind you the options are nearly identical and what is an option for Polestar usually comes as standard on a Zeekr). As far as just looking things up online all the difference between the two is that the Polestar is an SUV and the Zeekr is a wagon. Overall, interesting looking car, would love some coverage on that car this is based on as well.
The price is concerning and couple this with its brand identity - it’s a posh Volvo isn’t it? And I wonder how this will succeed. I own an EV and I love driving it but there are undoubted flaws and issues and I wonder whether car companies setting them as aspirational luxury desirable products is sustainable.
It's a sports tuned Volvo. Polestar has always been sports tuned Volvos and they costs more because of the tuning. It's not more posh than a Volvo, however.
@@benjaminsmith2287 I actually put a question mark after the posh Volvo comment to indicate peoples’ possible confusion. I’ve owned a number of Volvo’s and understand the Polestar connection but these aren’t turned Volvo’s and yes, they can play on the ‘performance heritage’ but we are not talking AMG or M. This is a brand trying to be separate from Volvo yet still looking like a Volvo, Thor Hammer Headlights for example. I really like the Polestar 2 but that in itself was meant to be the next V40. I hope they succeed but I fear the price will go against them especially as competition increases. It’s competing at price points where its badge carries none of the kudos of German rivals.
I keep reading that polestar could be going bust, if they do , or say any of these EV manufacturers go bust.. do the cars "brick" as there would be no software updates etc???
geely is supporting polestar so I am not worried, as long as they deliver ps3 and ps4 this year. Supernice cars as far as I can tell from sitting in both. Cant wait to test drive!
So the '4' is rocking Audi Allroad / Volvo XC70 Vibes in its height and clearance. I like it and I can see why it could be big seller for Polestar. Its very tidy inside and out. 👍 Yes. the rear camera thing is perhaps a minor sticky point. As someone who runs a car with interchangeable review view mirror / screen thingy. I never use the camera on the rear view mirror because the imagery it displays is weird and it takes my eyes a split second to adjust to what im seeing upfront through the windscreen and then onto the digital rear view mirror. I think its a depth, focus thing and the switch between natural and digitised imagery as the rear view mirror becomes a small screen monitor. Also I find that at night, the images are pixelated and just a bit poor. Plus theres the always having to wipe the camera too. However, given the reliance on the technology, I hope Polestar have incorporated better camera tech to alleviate these minor issues.
If the efficiency is like the 2 then those range figures are just pie in the sky numbers. Also you say the 200kw is only a little bit less than the 800v cars, well those cars hold the higher charge speeds for a lot longer, therefore they will be long gone while this is still charging
The car is of course sexy. But whats sexier is your voice, your pronunciation, the pov of your review, you’re so relax, casual and spontaneous. Love the review 😍 keep doing this kind of review
polestar has tested that, it is located high up, with a cap and facing backwards, so Iam not worried about that (but yes low side/front/rear cameras without caps on my ps2 gets dirty)
Hi, I saw on the website that your team have already driven the new Scenic and e-3008. Two imo quite accessible new everyday cars. Will you do videos on them? I trust your opinions and we will likely buy one of these two cars before July. 😊
Is there a way to increase the scope of the code used for the gloves boxes, to the whole infotainment system? Like to prevent my partner to mess with my music or navigation? Just asking... :p
Looks awesome 🥳 But if you have three kids, there will be no cup holders to any of them 😮 Looking forward to see how the rear camera work in rainy or snowing weather or when it gets -25 degrees celsius...
Too pricey, lack of rear screen a big concern and issue for me. Then the issue / rumour that polestar are in trouble financially a bigger turn off. Shame as i like the look of it.
The difference between being owned by the europeans vs the chinese. Volvo during european ownership: Safety is priority, we must ensure best for everyone, best visibility driving Volvo during chinese: Safety?! Who is she?! Never heard of her. Block visibility of the driver, he can use cameras... ...and if cameras fail?!?!? The owner MUST buy overpriced replacement camera ONLY from manufacturer.
Nonsense. European cars have compromised visibility and the Chinese ownership have nothing to do with the design of this car. They're responsible only for financing the car and the platform. They didn't choose what type of visibility the car would have. That decision was made by the European designers who designed the car. Blame them, not anyone Chinese, on this.
So, can I get one yet?! Or we keep on talking about what “great” EVs are coming in who-knows-how-many years… It’s already 2024 and so many of these EVs are not made enough of. You’re waiting years to get one.
I like it and Nicola seems to love it. It may out of my price range, but in terms of trying to get buyers to swap to electric, it is cool, desirable, unique.
That tailgate is really awkward and a design fail. I thought it didn't have a rear window because they had installed solar PV on the roof. Now that would have made sense, as an option.
@@tobias_dahlberg That’s why I added as an option. In the summer and certain climates it could add 20 miles a day whilst you are work. Think of it as if someone kindly adds a couple of litres of fossil fuel to your ICE tank for free. A lot of people’s daily work commutes are less than 20 miles one way. Leave it to driver to decide if it has value or not. For example, I worked in Kuwait for many years and onboard solar PV would have definitely met by daily driving energy needs, although a litre of fossil fuel was less than bottled water.
@@grahamcook9289 What panels do you have in mind? You need approximately 30 to 50 panels for your 8 hours day shift when your car is not ideally placed south to move this giant 20 miles further on the road. Please give us a bit more insight in your reasoning. But in other words... it's always the better solution to place them on your house roof instead of driving around with your pv installation on your carroof.
@@thedreamfactory6964 Agreed. Elon said as much, but he also said they might consider PV panels for Teslas as an option once commercial PV panels improve on 20% efficiency. We may be close to 40% efficiency either way for example a two junction of silicon and perovskites, or even 60% with a three junction panel.
I have been tempted by Polestar's EVs, but… ultimately I opted to replace my Model 3 with an Ioniq 5 Limited. It's great, and should last me for many years to come! Y'know, Nicola, it doesn't matter which EV you review… viewers are smitten with you!
Without a rear window it feels disconcerting when looking back the digital rear view is no substitute for good vision, it will hit sales , people just aren’t ready for this unless your a truck driver by trade, given polestar recent issues this may prove a major issue hopefully geele can reverse this decision and make it s lift back instead
I like the fact that Polestar have thought differently, although it's going to be a little, um, polerising... [sic] The reclining rear seats: is having the button on the sides of the armrest genius, or annoying? I'm erring towards annoying because not everybody will want the armrest down. But I'm not a fan of that rear view aspect. You get a very different view with a camera, and it's not natural. When you move your head, the aspect doesn't change. It's probably not for me, but I do think it's great to see a manufacturer thinking differently to everybody else.
Weren't Polestar recently valued at zero by the investment bank that underwrites them. Spending a fortune on something like this when there is a lot of competition out there is not a financially sound decision.
So... anything you don't like? Car enthusiasts and prospective buyers also like to know what things to watch out for, and things that distinguish one car from another...
Very nice, yeah as a van driver for work the lack of rear window is no big deal for me. So Nic, did you deliberately not compare it to a Tesla, because the screen having all the controls on it is very Tesla, I say this and I’m not a Tesla owner
There is no Tesla that would come close to the PS4, it's a far more luxurious and well equipped vehicle. The closest rival to the PS4 would be the new Porsche Macan EV.
Two negative points in respect to having no rear view mirror 1) for those that need glasses..you can’t drive in your readers, so the rear view will be blurred . 2) the video image will need to be reversed (is it?) otherwise strange things will happen in your head.
Whilst it looks nice and seems to have a huge amount of tech, why is it that all I see is a lot of problems? The wheels are too big, the car is too heavy, a car should have a rear window and there is too much reliance on the screen and not enough physical buttons. I have been a fan of Polestar since the Polestar 1 came out and I could possibly live with the Polestar 2 but the 3 and 4 seem to be heading in the wrong direction for my personal tastes. I am sure that many will disagree with me but those that do please bear in mind before commenting that many will also agree with me!
Nicola's normally my favourite reviewer, but being surprised about legroom in a car almost the same size as a UK parking space and being happy with everything being in the screen including the glovebox? I think she got a little carried away 😂
I am ready to purchase. I have a 2024 Mercedes EQE 350+ due for delivery in March 2024, but I am willing to lose my deposit if Volvo can make the sale of this EV imminent in the first quarter of 2024...
Having a clear view instead of partially blocked rear view is a clever idea and makes the car looks even better..
Until your camera is completely dark from muck and there's no wiper. GG.
Or when it’s raining

Overall, interesting looking car, would love some coverage on that car this is based on as well.
I'd like to see an ICE version of this car and I would buy it.
that would make the interior space much smaller, be more expensive in total ownership, and it would destroy the planet
Looking forward to test driving this when it’s released in the US.
I hope you can set driver profiles, so you can set mirrors, seat, driving options, etc
P2 could do 8 profiles and automatically adjust based on who's phone enters the driver's seat, so I assume this does the same.
@@hjas42 that's awesome.
Didn't set the ambiance to Uranus... Disappointed 😢
😂
To bright lol
GORGEOUS DESIGN
I keep reading that polestar could be going bust, if they do , or say any of these EV manufacturers go bust.. do the cars "brick" as there would be no software updates etc???
geely is supporting polestar so I am not worried, as long as they deliver ps3 and ps4 this year. Supernice cars as far as I can tell from sitting in both. Cant wait to test drive!
This will be my next car. I explored one in the flesh last weekend, and wow…super impressive design.
So the '4' is rocking Audi Allroad / Volvo XC70 Vibes in its height and clearance. I like it and I can see why it could be big seller for Polestar. Its very tidy inside and out. 👍
Yes. the rear camera thing is perhaps a minor sticky point.
I like the look, the beauty, the refinement, the elegance and the eyes of the presenter, and I like the car too.
The car is of course sexy. But whats sexier is your voice, your pronunciation, the pov of your review, you’re so relax, casual and spontaneous. Love the review 😍 keep doing this kind of review
So they designed it with no rear window, why didn’t they install twin rear view camera’s and have a 3D display in the mirror? (yes it is possible)
possible yes, but needed? design is always a balance
Would the designer say that this cars driving technique is based on a van (a very expensive one).
Another gorgeous Polestar😍
No rear window. That was developed 100 years ago. It’s a van!🥂
or a supercar ;)
Dandy! No rear window and a CAMERA that will get covered in road grime, rain, snow, ice, pedestrian body parts and you will see NOTHING out back.
polestar has tested that, it is located high up, with a cap and facing backwards, so Iam not worried about that (but yes low side/front/rear cameras without caps on my ps2 gets dirty)
Hi, I saw on the website that your team have already driven the new Scenic and e-3008. Two imo quite accessible new everyday cars. Will you do videos on them? I trust your opinions and we will likely buy one of these two cars before July. 😊
Stunning!
Is there a way to increase the scope of the code used for the gloves boxes, to the whole infotainment system? Like to prevent my partner to mess with my music or navigation? Just asking... :p
I am new to Polestar.. hope they have in built dash cameras
This model does have an in built dash camera.
I just wanna say that I absolutely love Nicola as a presenter, she makes this whole video fun and lighthearted while still being informative.
Looks awesome 🥳 But if you have three kids, there will be no cup holders to any of them 😮
Looking forward to see how the rear camera work in rainy or snowing weather or when it gets -25 degrees celsius...
Too pricey, lack of rear screen a big concern and issue for me. Then the issue / rumour that polestar are in trouble financially a bigger turn off. Shame as i like the look of it.
geely supports polestar
Why the fascination with big wheels. They look ridiculous and only impede comfort. Just give me some 16 inches and a nice cushy ride
better electric range
It looks so good✔️✔️ big Wheeling
read a physics book if you want to know why.
I really like how it looks, but price makes it very unappealing since it costs almost as much as BMW iX50 here...
Doesn’t matter when it’s polestar. Better cars and far more range!!!!
It's a beautiful car, but no thank you. It's owned by a Chinese company. So decouple from the CCP asap. Free Tibet!
The difference between being owned by the europeans vs the chinese.
Volvo during european ownership: Safety is priority, we must ensure best for everyone, best visibility driving
Volvo during chinese: Safety?!
Polestar is owned by Geely group
Just reserved one & have my test drive in August!
Lots of Ipace design hints in there and that's a good thing. Nice shape and looks, not a fan of tablet driving though.
it has speech recogntion that actually works, thanks to Google, so you rarely need to interact with the screen if you dont want to
So, can I get one yet?! Or we keep on talking about what “great” EVs are coming in who-knows-how-many years…
It’s already 2024 and so many of these EVs are not made enough of. You’re waiting years to get one.
It is already in production for the Chinese market. This is 100% coming this year.
I don’t like that divider up front, but other then that it’s really nice!
Lovely car! Good promotion video!👍
Quality review- well done
I like it and Nicola seems to love it. It may out of my price range, but in terms of trying to get buyers to swap to electric, it is cool, desirable, unique.
Very interesting ...I wish the choice of colours was more dynamic 😅😅😅
That tailgate is really awkward and a design fail. I thought it didn't have a rear window because they had installed solar PV on the roof. Now that would have made sense, as an option.
Solar roofs are horrible. Adds almost no range but extra cost and production complexity for almost no reason.
Why are you measuring the size of the car in millimeters? Why not nano- or picometers?
I wish EX30 had same wheelbase as Polestar 4 so tall people could be comfortable for long trips in the rear seats.
ex30 is a much smaller car, smaller than ps2
I have been tempted by Polestar's EVs, but… ultimately I opted to replace my Model 3 with an Ioniq 5 Limited. It's great, and should last me for many years to come! Y'know, Nicola, it doesn't matter which EV you review… viewers are smitten with you!
Beautiful and unique design. I’m in love with this Polestar 4.
Can we all agree on the fact that Nicola is simply a brilliant host?
No
Err we can all agree that’s a very weird comment! I’m guessing but are you elderly and alone??
I like the fact that Polestar have thought differently, although it's going to be a little, um, polerising... [sic]
The reclining rear seats: is having the button on the sides of the armrest genius, or annoying? I'm erring towards annoying because not everybody will want the armrest down.
But I'm not a fan of that rear view aspect. You get a very different view with a camera, and it's not natural. When you move your head, the aspect doesn't change. It's probably not for me, but I do think it's great to see a manufacturer thinking differently to everybody else.
Beautiful car. I'll have to wait until it's 2nd or 3rd hand though.
Love the Car designs, hate the stock price.
Weren't Polestar recently valued at zero by the investment bank that underwrites them. Spending a fortune on something like this when there is a lot of competition out there is not a financially sound decision.
Can't wait for the polestar 4 pro max
So... anything you don't like? Car enthusiasts and prospective buyers also like to know what things to watch out for, and things that distinguish one car from another...
Very nice, yeah as a van driver for work the lack of rear window is no big deal for me.
So Nic, did you deliberately not compare it to a Tesla, because the screen having all the controls on it is very Tesla, I say this and I’m not a Tesla owner
Opening the glove box was a lot like opening the glove box in a Tesla…
Car looks quite a copy too and why wouldn’t you copy best selling car of 2023.
There is no Tesla that would come close to the PS4, it's a far more luxurious and well equipped vehicle. The closest rival to the PS4 would be the new Porsche Macan EV.
@@moggy4086 The closest rival will be the Zeekr 001. Technically the same as the Polestar 4.
Fantasic looking car, love it.
Great looking car
Looks great.
Nicola's normally my favourite reviewer, but being surprised about legroom in a car almost the same size as a UK parking space and being happy with everything being in the screen including the glovebox? I think she got a little carried away 😂
Tesla: we don't have steering wheel stalks
Polestar: bloody amateurs
😂
I am ready to purchase. I have a 2024 Mercedes EQE 350+ due for delivery in March 2024, but I am willing to lose my deposit if Volvo can make the sale of this EV imminent in the first quarter of 2024...
I love this car, I'm so jealous, I wish I could afford one. Lucky you!
looks great
lol instead they put glass on the roof. because you never know if someone's going to crash into you from above.
