I'm a pashtun from Pakistan and was born in the northwest region of the country. I can tell you from my experience that the pashtuns in Afghanistan are ultra conservative and even would consider them going to an extent of calling them extreme in the practice of sharia law. They basically don't want women to have any power or authority in the political landscape since that would greatly corrupt the society like we see in Turkey for instance. Afghanistan is very diverse as there are lots of ethnic groups that live there. There is just no way you can convince them to change or give women rights etc. These are considered colonial ideologies that they don't want. The only thing I don't agree with is limiting education and jobs to women to which I feel is very wrong they should work on fixing that problem.

Production of Opium from which (most will be well aware) Heroin is manufactured fell by 95% last year in Afghanistan. A feat no other rulers there have come close. Having seen the devistating health, social and frankly soul snatching effect of this drug. Credit where credit is due.Not by any means endorsing everything the Taliban decide to do ofcourse. I saw a rather unkind article (that would be easy to find) where some western countries had the temerity to imply the huge spike in Fentyl deaths was to blame on Heroin users being unable to get 'good old Afghan Heroin' and so they where 'forced' to switch to 'dangerouse synthetics'. You just cannot please some people. Furthermore on anouther note, you dont need to move Paul, you are already home.

Same thing happened in the 2000s. In 2000, the Taliban implemented a highly effective ban on opium cultivation, reducing production by 99% in areas under their control. However, this ban was short-lived due to the U.S.-led invasion in late 2001, which led to a resurgence in opium production. By 2004, cultivation reached an all-time high.

And it's not only work, but the right to education. Afghan doesn't have to encourage women to pursue a higher education or work if their culture is more traditional. But they shouldn't prevent or make it so difficult for women to pursue any level of education, that I believe is haram.
Not to mention, if women make up half of your population, you need women in fields of work so that they may help one another.
I understand though that countries that are under constant bombardment and oppression from the West are sort of forced to be very traditional in that sense. Like if they don't have the ability to build many schools, the schools that are left would be for the boys since they're obligated to work, which makes sense.

Allow me to present a case on your behalf, or at least present one case if I was you:
    1. Nowhere on Earth is truly a just and safehaven for Muslims or humanity at large. Khalifah has ended everywhere, only groups or stands of muslims survive divided within their own sections. I am born in the UK, for a purpose and wisdom that only my Lord knows. If He chose this place for me, then it means there's a path for salvation within my circumstances.
    2. If one truly believe in Islam, which I believe I do, I am responsible for bringing people I can relate to and communicate with towards Islam. If my own home is not in order, what benefit am I going to bring to people outwards.
    3. As of now, my life isn't in threat here. What we call Dar Al Islam today is just a Muslim dominated country only in terms of population. Speaking from a strictly Islamic point of view, there's no real value I incurr by moving outside now.
    4. Putting life in danger is not defined as Jihad, it's pure stupidity. We intend for Islam as a System to dominate the World order because only in it lies true justice for humanity on Earth, whether individuals choose to be Muslims or not. This is not done by "safely" smoking sheeshas in a café, it's done by first waking Muslims up to their purpose on Earth and challenging Fitnah through intellectual discourse. I think my time is better spent doing this in a place that is sufficiently safe.
Lastly, I do not agree with the reasoning that it is due to a particular interpretation of Shariah. There's one stupid question I see some people coming up, even if this might not be shared by you, just want to share it anyways, if we implement Shariah, which version of Shariah are going to implement? Is it Hanafi, Shafi, Salafi, Malaki, etc? Well, those are Fiqh. Essentially principles of Justice is based on foundational Aqeedah that almost all mainstream Muslims agree. This is what Allah calls as Deen. Certainly differences of opinion lie on Jurisprudence but we all agree, election of leaders, basis of decisions, defence, and preservation of what is valued is common.

This is the problem with using 'Urf as a religious source. Ibn Hazm used to be against Qiyas (Analogical Reasoning) and 'Urf (Local Customs) simply because it led to subjectivism and the selling of culture as religion. This doesn't mean Ibn Hazm was against rationality (he was a scientist) or against respecting different cultures; he was in favor of the Qur'an, the Confirmed Sunnah, and Empirical Evidence. Culture should remain culture and we shouldn't sell it as part of the religion. If the Qur'an and the Sunnah shows that women should get an education, then that should prevail over the subjective preferences of the jurists and the local 'Urf. If you ask the Taliban, they would give analogical reasoning and 'urf as a basis for not letting women get an education; so they themselves acknowledge that it's not Islam, it's just Afghan culture.

Islam goes the best in a free society. When you have free speech, freedom to choose. Islam is always the one that comes first. No body wants a man to rule over him, rather 1 law the law of god to rule al over humans, doesn't matter if you are a king , general or bagger. Everyone is held equally by the law of god, no money can't buy the law of god. That's what true freedom en equality is.

1- But why's Islam the only religion where adherents are challenged 'Why don't you live in country X?' ? No one challenges Jews, Christians, Buddhists to live in Israel, the US, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. (Leave out Hindus for now. But you can group Dharmics together if you want.)
2- But ok even Albania Indonesia Malaysia Saudi Arabia Turkey UAE Bahrain Morocco why not live there?
3- Why should anyone trust a Muslim or anyone who claims 'Islam is a great world religion' EVEN Rabbi Shmuley Boteach if they don't live in a Muslim country?
4- And how come Israel is Judaism's only country yet is a 1st world democracy while Islam has 50+ countries yet has only 3 democracies and has no 1st world democracies?
5- 2 million Muslims prefer to live in Israel over any Muslim country, yet only Magda Haroun prefers the reverse specifically to live in Egypt over Israel. Why?
6- Like why don't Norman Finkelstein & Miko Peled be like Magda Haroun and h treasonous Catholic spouse?
7- Additionally there are 2 million Jewish Christians yet 0 million Jewish Muslims. Why?

You should rather invest atleast %10 of your time to Quranism studies and Rashad Khalifa's message and you will start seeing the bigger picture by the will of God and see how big the rabbit hole goes.

Br. Paul First, I want to appreciate all the work you are doing.
Secondly, when you speak about Afghanistan, please speak with an Afghan who is loving in Afghanistan also, not just with people who are under the influence of Tali.ban government. To understand the reality of Ta.liban and also what percentage of Afghanistan is Pashtuns and what pashtuns right now think about the policy of T.a.Liban, especially about girls education.
Thirdly, Speak whith those Muslims who are Traditional but still oppose the government like Bashir Ahmad Ansari and a lot others.
5Pillars team really disappointed me for their coverage of Afghanistan news after T.al.ibaN took over. They have become a mouthpiece of T.Ali.ban's government.
