I totally agree. When I first saw this movie I hated it and never expected everyone to love it. To me it was a total failure. This is. literally the only video I have found that does not praise the movie.
You can't even get mad at righley since she is not even a character when you consider the fact she is being controlled by 5 flat characters, so she is basically a robot. And another thing, you know the part when joy meets some workers and they put a gum memories at headquarters, why didn't they just put the core memories in there
I have always felt this film was overrated. A great Pixar film connects equally to kids and adults and I felt this tried too hard to connect with grown ups only. Never felt the need to watch this a second time.
I thought Riley had literally the dullest reason to move away. I moved many times I had to move away from friends I got bullied badly I lived in an environment where I felt it was dangerous at times sometimes I even felt like I felt useless, wether it meant helping someone emotionally or helping myself through something I cannot deal with on my own. And I've had situations where I felt like maybe running away and exiting out of my families and friends lives would be the solution to mine and THEIR problems. And yet the only reason why Riley decides to run away is cause she's homesick? I get that it definitely can be something that people draw out to do themselves without needing all these dramatic experiences, but it just doesn't seem like the greatest reason to push a character struggling to find happiness over the edge. And do not tell me that Riley's happiness were her friends because it's not, the ones that staid by Riley's side when she was angry sad happy disgusted or any other emotion of the sort....were her parents!!! If Pixar made a scene in which the parents fought over a dumb discussion I would've related so much more with Riley in that instance, and I'm pretty sure so would the rest of the other kids in the entire world dealing with their parents constantly fighting. I felt very little emotion when watching the film but the most I felt his spot on was the fear of Riley's memories and even JOY herself to be forgotten.....forever...they executed that scene very well.....but I wished that Joy would've probably said something about how much she desperately just wanted to keep Riley happy. The subject of a child's happiness.
Yes man i totally agree with your point and in my family i have seen my parents fighting/arguing every other day and when I was child(13-15yo) i used to lock myself in a room whenever they fought(use to think about Suicide for short time but yes those thoughts always popped up in my mind but never attempted anything like that) and with time i got used to this situation and I'm 20yo now and with time things got worse and i got tougher and also as in the movie her reason for leaving house was friends but i think i would not have felt like this if i lost frendship with my best friend or some friends because we can make new friends but parents thats not possible
The reason Riley is bland is because she’s missing two of her emotions with three emotions that don’t express much personality anger is pointless without sadness and fear is also pointless without other emotions. Without the emotions that are important to her she can’t form the right emotions at the right time. Also I suggest looking at this movie like joy being the villain because she is.
Are people STILL thinking Joy is a "villain" in the year of our lord and savior 2024? You probably missed the fact that she goes through an arc and figures out the importance of Sadness as the movie goes on. And it takes up a good chunk of the movie so how do y'all even miss that?
@@VigilanteLulu I will always think she was the villain because even though she learned her lesson, she caused a lot of bad things to happen because she was so obsessed with keeping a kid continuously happy even when bad things happen, she was cool with anger and that just proves she legit wanted her kid to be a psychopath
@@rebornjm It's just Joy learning her lesson that happiness isn't the only way for your emotions in life. Protagonists don't have to be perfect beings. They can, y'know, LEARN from their blunders, like Joy does learning the importance of Sadness. Methinks you're overthinking a simple little movie in all the wrong ways.
STRAIGHT UP FACT I remember getting attacked by toxic inside out fans just because I didn’t like goofball island (it creeped me out for some reason). I was like 7 when I wrote that opinion and I didn’t know how to respond back maturely back then. Now I literally hate the movie because of that experience.
"Let's get into the two biggest problems. The first being the emotional manipulation of the audience. ...Pixar is really good about earning its emotional responses, but after Up, most of the emotional scenes have to be ridiculously over the top, and unnecessarily harsh to make sure the audience cries." FUCKING THIS
Just squeezing the emotions out of naive fans. How evil. I thought I was the only one who saw through it. I bet Disney get a dollar every time a year falls out of some random fans eyes. It's terrible and why I never liked Disney except for Pooh and Disney princesses
@@Emper0rH0rde Of course. Love it as much as you want. It's just my opinion. I as never a Disney kid, except for Disney Princesses and Winnie the Pooh.
It doesn't matter if a plot of a movie has been done before many times. What truly matters is the EXECUTION, and a lot of Pixar's films are executed pretty well. And the Pixar formula is pretty strong by itself too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I say!
Yeah once they got sucked out of headquarters I rolled my eyes, and the film got very boring after that. Another “secret world of whatever” road trip film from Pixar. They haven’t come close to Ratatouille in ages
I say whatever I want and you gotta deal with that Ok, sorry you’re right I thought I was right, but guess Walt Disney Animation did it. I must have been mixing it up with Pixar, because Disney has often teamed up with Pixar to relase movies for example Toy Story and up.
I agree that this film is overrated but I'd like to add one little point. The message of this movie is not "just cry and someone will come and fix your sadness." NO. The message of the movie is, "It's okay to be sad." It may not have shown this in the perfect way but it did what it needed to do. You remember the scene where Riley returns home and she talks to her parents. In that scene they comfort her by saying, "You know what Riley, we're kind of sad too and THAT'S OKAY." They didn't fix her problem. They just said it's okay for her to feel that way. I don't think this movie does a bad representation f depression cause I'm not even sure if that's what it was trying to do. I mean I listened the commentary for the film and all I remember them saying is their message. That it's okay to be sad. Riley doesn't get her problems solved by crying to her parents. She feels better because they told her something important. That she isn't alone. And that's one of the best things you can tell someone. Sometimes you just need somebody to say. "I feel you."
I thought it oversimplified human psychology to the point where it was kind of insulting. And yeah, she moved. That's her major problem. That's it. It also feels like the protagonist is acting about 8 years younger than her age. And I don't think it's implied that she's got a learning disability. That actually might have given her some depth and give a real challenge for her to overcome.
I hate to bring this up after a year of posting but I just noticed something: The mother's emotions are all 'female' and share the trait of wearing glasses and ponytailed hair. The father's emotions are all 'male' and share ties and mustaches. But in Riley's mind we have 3 'female' emotions (Sadness, Joy, Disgust) and 2 'male' emotions (Anger and Fear) and NONE of these characters share a trait with each other or Riley like her parents emotions do. What is going on here?? Is it because she's not matured enough that they've solidified into a similar form? Is it weird oversight by the Pixar team of their own universe or an attempt to force them to stand out more???
My guess has always been that since Riley is the main character's mind we see into, they wanted her cast of emotions to be more "diverse" for lack of a better word. That way the main cast has both male and female characters that aren't too similar to each other. Even other kids in the movie, like the boy she runs into at the end, have emotions that are all one gender and share one main trait. It think it was just easier for them to make everyone else's emotions much simpler than Riley's are.
Lazy characters design, poor scripting... I mean, five central emotions running this kid's entire brain (and all those cheap tension building that just makes no sense, like that train falling and all), it's so simplistic even for a 5 to 11 y/o Disney movie. I don't think they even tried at all. More like, "ah, just do it"
@@VigilanteLulu I'm pretty sure that was just a lazy "miss" with no bigger meaning like "she is not a cis girl" or anything They already made them and felt that was unnecessary to make a bit more original characters for other character then just took them as a base and changed their clothing and gender to match their human
Okay here's my idea when you are growing up you haven't solidified a personality or anything really So eventually they would all become one gender and would all look similar
2:30 while I can see what you mean but I would be a little bit sad if my best friend just made a new best friend only after 2 days of moving sure she could have handled it better but you do stupid things when your upset and i’m sure she did apologise for it
While I definitely don't hate this movie, I definitely don't like it either. You raised a lot of good points. I guess some would say that Bing Bong represents Riley's childhood and when he sacrifices himself, it means that Riley has let go of her childhood and is learning to grow up. But I would argue that the thing a character is MEANT to represent is not THE character. How he acts to show what he represents is the character. And like you said, he doesn't do much but lead them down a bunch of pointless obstacles. I always love hearing different opinions than the popular crowd. Tell me, what do you think of the Lego movie?
Thanks, Joseph! I'm glad you liked this video and were willing to hear me out. :) I really like the Lego Movie. I think that the characters were fun and the animation was beyond fantastic. My favorite thing about it is the clever use of cliches. While, yes, there were certainly a lot of cliches to both the character types and the plot points, the third act tied it all together really well. A child WOULD use all the cliches they've seen in other movies while playing with their toys.
the first time i watched this movie i hated it bc joy (who i think of as basically the main character) was just so unlikeable and not a good role model. my friends, however, loved it and couldn't understand why i didnt like it
Joy starts off as a little selfish, thinking happiness is the only way for Riley and doesn't fully understand Sadness's purpose, but throughout the movie she learns more about how it could be expressed. It's called DEVELOPMENT, dude! Sometime, I wonder if you fellas even paid attention to the movie!
You’ve got some good points, but I have a question: Not trying to disagree with you, but would you rather watch Inside Out or Cars 2? Also, I must ask, what were your thoughts on Coco?
Hmmm... Honestly, I'd probably prefer Cars 2. Cars 2 is not good by any stretch, but Inside Out personally annoys me more than Cars 2 does. As someone that's dealt with depression, Inside Out handles a lot of things wrong. I actually haven't seen Coco yet, but I want to! I'm gonna try to catch up on a lot of movies this year, and Coco is high up on the list.
Don’t worry Faith, I can assure you right now that Coco handles that kind of stuff a lot better than Inside Out does for you! And I see why you like Cars 2 better! I mean, at worst, Cars 2 is just childish and subpar, while Inside Out at worst is very manipulative! Btw, Happy New Year!!! 🎆🎊🎈🥳
I just really hated the depiction of depression. I wanted to relate to this film, because I went through a similar experience to Riley, and because of it I did get depression. However, at the end, she does one stunt and is fine again. I tried to kill myself because to my kid brain, moving felt like I was loosing everything I knew. Even now, when I can look back and see it wasn't a big deal, it doesn't make the depression less real. It can't just go away, and this depiction isn't just poor, it's downright irresponsible.
I'm so sorry that you've been through that. As someone who has also gone through several bouts of suicidal depression, I also think the movie is a terrible depiction of what it's like to live with those issues. It isn't like a switch that can so easily turn on and off and the depression, no matter how it seems in retrospect, was 100% real and literally life-threatening in the moment.
It's funny how so many people have been saying Trolls was a corrupted counterpart to Inside Out because it had the gall to say you just have to be happy happy all the time and it'll solve all your problems, oh no, what a horrible empty-headed message that completely goes against the absolute perfect mind-blowing brilliant message of Inside Out... which (as you said, and I can't really argue with it now that I've heard it) is that if you sit around looking sad people will just come and make you feel better. How is that a way better message again? (For the record, I'm not a fan of Trolls, but I'm not a huge fan of this film either, so I don't really have much bias towards one or the other)
I don’t find this movie bad, but I think the idea of manipulating inside a brain is a bit unnecessary. This idea certainly doesn’t work well in this movie.
I've still only watched this once in theaters and never felt the need to ever watch it ever again. Overrated, manipulative trash. I love how Pixar said this movie was approved by "real" child psychologists, yet I've heard parents say that it made their kids think they're controlled by tiny people in their brain lol.
I wondered if kids would think that, too...then, if they look up 'voices in my brain' or 'people in my brain making me do things,' they'd self-diagnose as having dissociative identity disorder
I never really hated the movie. It was always just "meh". But recently, my friend give me ideas for an Inside Out sequel. He gave so many horrible ideas. He wanted Joy and Fear to get married, wanted to have Goosebumps characters in it, and had no message what so ever. That took the my small amount of enjoyment out of me. This is almost my least favorite pixar movie now. That's my stupid reason to hate this movie
7 years later this still is the only anti-inside out movie reviews yt will show me when i look for negative reviews 😭 its so shocking to me that it being a bad movie is an almost non-existent opinion, i feel crazy sometimes when i talk to my friends and they say how amazing and wonderful it is cause did we watch the same movie??? The only great this is the soundtrack and thats it
I liked the movie because I could connect to it on a personal level. But..I didn’t really like Joy’s character, I always felt sad for Sadness. I’m not hating, I’m just expressing my opinion. 😌
A little late to the party on this review, but I agree. The only people who like this movie, in my opinion, are people who have never truly suffered a tragic sad moment, or loss in their life.
This movie is the least memorable Pixar film I have ever seen. The plot was boring as hell, and the characters were beyond annoying (especially Bing Bong UGHHHH). By the end of the movie, I literally could not understand what the hype was about it and I was SO disappointed. I love almost every Pixar movie ever made, but this one was complete TRASH.
The whole movie is a cringeworthy journey into emotional immaturity and Riley overreacting to stupid things that aren't important. It tries to be funny but it really isn't. No. I won't let it slide just because it's a kids movie.
I remember I watched the movie because Minions (Yes, I wanted to see Minions. I unironically like the minions) wasn't out yet. I literally didn't trust Pixar after that film. It was the angstiest kids movie if you can even call it that, that I ever saw. Honestly, I thought that I was the only person who hated the film until I literally searched up "I hate Inside Out" and saw you as the top result. Everything you said was exactly how you felt. I no longer feel alone. 😁
you're right.. this movie doesn't give the message that YOU are responsible for your own happiness. it's not other's ppl's job and things just fix up that way sunshine n rainbows. there's like a million things Inside Out did like crap imo lmao. but yeah you gave great points that I've felt the same way since it came out.
Thanks! I'm sure that's not how they intended it to sound, but the way it's presented in the movie makes it a pretty bad message for kids. "It's other people's job to keep you happy!" is such an entitled way of thinking.
@@FaithsTake No offence but I feel like you (and a lot of people in this comment section) kinda missed some crucial details in this movie. If you are talking about Riley's parent's, then it's their job to cheer up Riley when she's upset. I mean, she is their daughter, after all. Also, I don't think the message was "Feel sad all the time and others will help you out with your troubles!" It was more like showing the most important moments to feel sad. That's what Joy learns throughout the course of the movie and yet I feel like a lot of people tend to write her off as "selfish and unlikable" without even considering her development as a character. With that said, I think Inside Out is a excellent movie and honestly one of Pixar's best movies of the 2010's! I'm just really tired of seeing all the negative reviews misrepresenting such a critically acclaimed movie.
Yeah, I don't HATE this film (its ambition is undeniable), but if I was ranking Pixar films by personal preference, this would likely be in the bottom half of the list: I just don't genuinely relate to most of it. Yeah, a couple moments here and there strike a chord (the gum commercial song gag still gets a laugh from me) but for the most part I just don't really care about any of the characters - honestly I have trouble even fully buying the premise: okay, five basic emotions, dream production studio, imagination is a theme park, but what exactly is the Train of Thought for? Yeah, I know, hahaha, "train of thought" is a thing we all say, but what does it really DO? Half of this movie is spent on these three characters both chasing it down (the part where they go through abstract thought and miss the train feels completely pointless when they magically catch the train two minutes later) and keeping it going only for it to crash and burn and never reappear, leaving me wondering "okay, so can Riley no longer THINK? She can find her way clear across San Francisco, one of the biggest cities in America, to catch the bus WITHOUT the ability to think?" Was there not a possible better solution to getting home than using the Train of Thought anyway? Why does Joy ditching Sadness to go up the recall tube really matter all that much when given the timing if she had let Sadness go with her they probably would have both ended up in the dump when the tube snapped? As much as I try to buy into it and feel invested, there's just a million unanswered questions that pop up about how this world works that I can't ignore, the main reason being I don't relate to the main human character I'm supposed to connect with. I've pretty much discovered that when it comes to this film, you're either on board with it and fully invested or you're not, and I'm sadly in the latter camp. I dunno, maybe I'll come back to it in 10 years and it'll speak to me then.
I personally love Inside Out. Honestly... I understand and actually agree with your points. (Even that I like this movie) Don't worry I don't hate you. One of my best friends HATES this movie but I forgot why... I think It's because that she feels that this isn't how our emotions work, or something like that... I dunno. I respect your opinion. You had some great points.
Hey Faith, I have a question for you: What is in your opinion THE WORST movie that gets good reviews? (it doesn't have to be from a specific company, just movies in general)
That's a tough one! One recent film I couldn't understand the popularity of was the 2017 remake of Beauty and the Beast. I understand what they were going for with the movie, but it really just took an almost perfect movie and made it in live-action and did it way worse. The characters have no chemistry, the singing is way too autotuned, and the general magic is just nonexistent. It made over $1.2 billion and got great reviews, and I honestly don't understand how. It's probably not the worst film to get good reviews, but it's a pretty rough one for me.
I didn't like the movie because it was too showy. It is an interesting concept but what I look for in a movie is not to analyze emotions in a brain is to feel what the characters are going through, empathize but not by being told what to feel so plainly.
This movie was really awful for me personally. Too personal, I went into animation as a career because animations helped me through my childhood. Also, because I know and am friends/colleagues with about a handful of people who worked on it. I related to Riley's problems/almost problems but all in worse ways. Losing a best friend due to moving? Yes, but there was no facetime for us to stay connected. Moving to a different place as a child? I moved to a different country and had to learn a new language and a new culture. Moving to SF specifically? I along with so many were forced out of SF-Bay-Area due to rising housing costs. Having an attic for a room and your stuff getting delayed from arriving? I grew up sleeping in the living room and had no space of my own. Having an attic room would have felt like living in a dream castle to me. Parents bickering? Mine had crazy fights and were mentally abusive with all their yelling. They did not stop because the kids were crying in the corner. And I never would have even dared to run away. This movie wrecked me. It made me feel disconnected and undeserving and totally alone.
I'm so sorry you've had all those misfortunes in your life, J C. I hope you're on a brighter path and doing better now! :) You get exactly what I'm talking about here. There are people out here with real, seemingly unsolvable or inescapable issues when 98% of Riley's "problems" are barely inconveniences compared to real life. At the very least, nothing to run away or fall into depression over.
Regarding relatability only, I don't think people (my wife specifically) relate to Riley as a character. I think the relatability comes from something the viewer is bringing to the film, not something it presents. And that is the memory of the effort involved. Most of us with depression know what it's like to do everything right and come away sad anyway. Depression makes the end result of your effort emotionally unsatisfying, whether you win or lose. Living with that in a healthy way often does hinge on the response of others. Seeing Riley cheered up by her teammates isn't relatable because she did anything to make it happen, but because of how welcome that is to everyone who did put in effort only to have brain chemistry make it meaningless.
personally I hate the constant melancholy stain everything in this movie has (most apparent in my opinion in the music), and how they never address it and act like things can easily get cheery and resolve without much hard work. I also think that with the mind of a teenager, they could have explored much deeper things like depression and anxiety, but no, they kept everything surface level with "sad" and "happy". just a wasted opportunity and an uncomfortable watch. imo
Riley does something incredibly delusional and dangerous in this movie. Or the emotions? Sorry, I really don't know who the main character in this movie really is. Bottom line is, she does something that could've gotten herself even killed and when she returns home, she gets a big fat hug from her parents. There is a scene in Stranger Things (spoiler alert) where Hopper confronts Eleven for doing something very similar and he gets rightfully angry. Even if it's a big "I don't like you anymore" scene, everything he says about her being punished and having to understand her consequences make so much more sense and are much more dramatic than whatever the hell this movie did.
I honestly felt like this was a very overhyped film, it’s nowhere near as good as people make it out to be, but I’m glad that Pete Docter has now given us a much better movie imo with Soul
Charlie Brown= crab on ROR team that didn’t look as intense but actually got a good score and did truly good Inside out= the intense 2 headed monster from OK that looked like they tried really hard but truly and deservedly failed.
I just have one question... Did you like Lewis Black as Anger? That's really the only reason I would see this movie (I haven't actually seen it). It's always hysterical when he just suddenly snaps like he does in his routine or on the Daily Show. ruclips.net/video/Q3WzCEl2OeU/видео.html
Yes, he was good! Fear, Disgust, and Anger are easily the most enjoyable part of the movie. The animation on the 3 of them is better than all the other characters, and Lewis Black, Bill Hader, and Mindy Kaling all did great jobs with their performances.
Faith's Take That's good. Did you see the video I sent? "So you fling one set of animals at another. What an original concept. Hope you're lawyered up, Police Pooches, because if you thought those birds were angry before, now they're f****ng pissed!"
When i saw it the first time( in 2016 ) i loved it and i was obsessed with it, but the last time i watched ( in 2020 ) this movie made me feel deppresed, bc of What happens inside your head - just those kind of things make me feel uncomfortable ( bc i feel like our emotions have personalities, but we don't) and deppresed (bc i remembered my nightmares from this movie) that's why now i hate it. :-(
The Incredibles (2004) was the last *great* Pixar movie. Cars had a good story, but it should have been about actual people, instead of anthropomorphic vehicles. Ratatouille was *painfully* boring. Wall-E was one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. I didn't bother seeing Up because I knew I would hate it. Toy Story 3, I hated so intensely that Pixar has been dead to me since then.
I thought this movie was alright. But I didn't like as everyone else because it was so cheesy. Like Pete's Dragon. It didn't ruin for me, but it did make me not like it more. The message was great. I thought Riley did have a personality, even if it cheesy and not new. But not painful. It's actually nice to see. Joy was supposed to be irritation to emphasize that her forcing happiness is not okay or wanted. But yea, for me, I thought this movie was cheesy to really like it. Not boring, but cheesy
I definitely see that side. A lot of the emotion they want us to feel definitely comes off as cheesy and forced. But, it really touched a lot of people, and while I'm glad they found a film they can connect with, I just can't really understand it myself. And Bing Bong had no reason to die in this version of the script! I heard that originally, they planned on Bing Bong being a redeemable antagonist. He was going to lead Joy and Sadness astray on purpose, since he was bitter that Riley had stopped playing with him for years. And after he and Joy feel into the canyon, he was going to sacrifice himself so Riley could be happy again. That has SO much more depth than having him simply be comic relief that just distracts them and doesn't serve a purpose in the story until the very end. It makes his death feel completely unearned, cheap, and frustrating! It feels like it went from being the ending of a satisfying character arc to just a ploy to make the audience cry.
My opinions actually changed. I still think the film has corniness that makes me cringe. But the emotions by nature (besides Joy and Sadness because they’re the main characters) are one dimensional. Riley is a puppet of these guys. You really don’t care for her cause everything she does is by these characters, and she’s bipolar assumingly from what happens in the movie. Bing Bong isn’t a bad idea, and he actually does add to the film, but him being a problem and then killing him off is irritating. Sadness also drags the second act of the film, and the movie is sorta drawn out. It’s a lot of “let’s see this or that”. There’s also logical errors that make Star Wars look tame. I still do like some scenes, it’s not terrible, but it’s not very good either. I disagree with you on the ending, I think that it needed to be simple in order for it to be understood in the moment. Sure it’s not the most impactful, but due to the nature of the film, that’s fitting. There’s some good jokes and nice ideas and execution and scenes, but the other stuff really bothered me. 5/10
I also disagree on Riley being bland. Yes she can be unpleasant with her being super mean for stupid reasons, but I don’t think she’s bland. I actually think she’s so corny that it’s cringeworthy. But not that much. I remember Riley being quirky, goofy, talkative, curious, loving. Even though I don’t FEEL that Riley is burstingly alive because she’s a puppet to her emotions, I do beleive she does have personality traits and that they’re shown flowingly. But I do agree that family and hockey aren’t traits. That’s lazy writing from Pete Doctor.
I can understand if you don’t like the movie, cause that’s your opinion. But this review feels so wrong and mean, it’s like you misinterpreted the 1st film entirely. You can be annoyed by Joy and Sadness, that’s fine, but that’s Joy’s character flaws. Just because they have flaws, Which mind you are learned from, does not automatically make them bad characters. The part with Riley feels so nasty, she’s a kid of course she’s going to be over emotional, she’s not gonna handle all this willy nilly, especially since it’s a cross country move. While yes the film can feel a bit too sentimental, I remind you IT’S A MOVIE ABOUT EMOTIONS, of course it’s going to be very emotional, and saying is emotionally manipulating is just so redundant. I agree that BingBong wasn’t the most interesting character, but think about it metaphorically. BingBong is essentially homeless and has been shunned from Riley’s mind, and then he saves Joy by helping her get up and is forgotten. BingBong’s death isn’t just a ploy, it’s to show how she’s growing up and yeah it’s over emotional but again that’s what the film is about. Your interpretation of the final message is atrocious, your saying that the film shows that you need other people to feel better and that you can’t feel better by yourself. Firstly it’s okay to need other people to feel better, as long as you aren’t dependent on it, it’s called EMPATHY. Secondly this film isn’t saying that and isn’t saying you need it, it shows Riley’s experience and the essentially the message but it’s still served in a story. You’re acting like this is propaganda to brainwash kids. You can dislike the film, but at least give good reasons on why you don’t like it.
Omg you need others for happiness, think about this ur sad and there’s no one is there to make you feel better, are you going to be happy or sad. You can’t just have one emotion or in this case 4 emotions, you need all 5, joy wanted to be a solo teammate she was a self absorbed Narcissist. She didn’t see sadness as a good emotion and didn’t see how it helped Riley in the long run. The sad emotion while cliche was looked at as the antagonist, but in truth was the protagonist in this movie. This is why I felt this movie was great, Joy’s selfish attitude is what almost caused Riley to ruin her own life. You can’t have true happiness without sadness. The hockey game she expressed sadness when she needed to and that’s what opened joy’s Mind to the importance of sadness, but that’s how i see it
I am soo late with this but thank you! I watched this movie on my flight to Japan and I hated it. I hated the characters (except for anger, he was a great guy) and the "lesson" did not click with me at all and for so many years I did not understand, why most people loved this movie. I can get Riley's feelings for being jealous her friend had another friend since she left, because she might feel replaced. And I hated sadness and joy sooo much. As you said, Joy is controlling but sadness though UGH. I hated that she started things just because she wanted to touch memories even though she knew she can manipulate them. I am not saying that she was treated well but come on, don't touch those damn memory balls!
I FEEL YOU-literally was restraining myself from wanting to fOkiN sTraNGLe sadness through the goddamn screen lmao, movie overall out of every Pixar and Disney animated movie I've seen, is probably the worst one yet imo ;-;
Hmmmm....very interesting video.🤔 First, I would like to start off by saying that Inside Out is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I completely respect your opinion. :) Now here are the reasons I love this movie so much, personally. Firstly, I interpreted the message of the film in a very different way than you did. I believe the message the creators were going for, is to not keep your emotions bottled up inside, because it will only lead to feelings of anger and anxiety, and in the end, make you feel empty inside. And I believe that Inside Out did an extremely accurate job illustrating this. The fact that Anger, Fear, and Disgust are the only emotions Riley has for much of the film, represents the anger and anxiety that can result from keeping sadness bottled up inside. And the scene near the end of the film, where Fear, Anger, and Disgust are no longer able to make Riley feel anything at all, represents the feeling of emptiness that can result from this. However, you'll notice at the end of the movie, once Joy and Sadness return to Headquarters, allowing Riley to finally truly expresses herself and release her deep feelings of sadness, it ultimately leads to a sense of happiness and relief in her, as brilliantly shown, once a happy/sad core memory is created in Riley's mind. I agree, there are far worse problems in the world than what Riley went through, but that wasn't the point of the movie. The point the creators were trying to make, was that trying to hide your true emotions, keeping them bottled up inside, can be harmful psychologically, and it truly is, at least in my opinion. As for Joy's character, though she is quite bossy and controlling of the other emotions and is trying to keep Sadness away entirely in the beginning (the reason Riley becomes so emotionally harmed to begin with), it's clear that the only reason she's doing it is because she truly cares about Riley and believes that keeping her happy constantly is the right thing to do. And in the end, she learns that she was wrong, and stops ordering all of the other emotions around, allowing each one to work on their own and make their own decisions. It's the same basic concept as with every other Pixar protagonist. Each one makes mistakes and has flaws that they learn to overcome, just like Joy. As for Bing Bong, I personally found his character to be very fun, charming, and colorful. And I actually like the fact that he wasn't the villain. After Pixar had done twist villains so many times before, I thought it was very refreshing that they created a character who doesn't turn out to be a villain. And I think the reason Bing Bong was stealing Riley's memories was because, deep down, he was heartbroken and dearly missed being Riley's imaginary friend, and taking her memories was his way of holding onto her. Finally, though I do understand some of the events being somewhat repetitive, I actually really enjoy all of the worlds and obstacles that Joy, Sadness, and Bing Bong encounter on their journey. I love all of the colors, unique designs, and all of the small, clever little details, like the fact that many of the older objects in Riley's mind are quite dusty, whereas the newer objects, such as the "Imaginary Boyfriend" machine, are very clean and new. Anyways, these are all of my thoughts regarding this video, that I really wanted to share. If you disagree, that's perfectly fine. :) I completely respect your opinion! :) Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. :)

My mom, my friends, and I who've all experienced depression agree that this is the worst Pixar movie because of a boring ass plot and ESPECIALLY the toxic positivity. Over all a depressing movie, and some people think that just because a movie is sad it's a good one. Hell, Adventure Time's later seasons handled depression better than this movie.
Thank you for being respectful! But, just cuz there's a worse movie doesn't mean the "better" movie of the two is good. I've definitely seen movies worse than Inside Out, but it doesn't make me like Inside Out any more.
I hope you don't mind an opposing thought here, but I actually adore this movie! I feel like you and this comment section missed a few nuances in the movie, like Joy's development and how is this movie "manipulative" in any way? All I see it's doing is telling a story, developing its characters and giving justifiable sacrifices at points. I know there's no such thing as a perfect movie and this is no exception, but I feel like you guys don't pay enough attention to fully get it. A couple of genuine flaws I can think of are a couple of plotholes like Joy saying nothing bad can happen to Riley but trying to wake her up to get the train going! Sorry if I sound annoyed but I'm kinda tired of all the contrarian reviews (like on IMDB) being thrown at a critically acclaimed movie for such trivial or nonexistant reasons.
I totally agree. When I first saw this movie I hated it and never expected everyone to love it. To me it was a total failure. This is. literally the only video I have found that does not praise the movie.

I assumed it was because the other emotions would end up touching it maybe. Looking back, they should of explained it.

And it's not even funny or entertaining I have to watch this trash for college what hell, but I felt sorry for Reily crying in class

@@SonicPlayer2004 it couldn’t be that hard
I agree that this film is overrated but I'd like to add one little point. The message of this movie is not "just cry and someone will come and fix your sadness." NO. The message of the movie is, "It's okay to be sad."
It may not have shown this in the perfect way but it did what it needed to do. You remember the scene where Riley returns home and she talks to her parents. In that scene they comfort her by saying, "You know what Riley, we're kind of sad too and THAT'S OKAY."
They didn't fix her problem.
THANK YOU!!!
Yeah. I understand this now on my re-watch. Could of been done a lot better but a good message nontheless.

Here here.
I hate to bring this up after a year of posting but I just noticed something:
The mother's emotions are all 'female' and share the trait of wearing glasses and ponytailed hair.
More like, "ah, just do it"
And Riley's emotions being a mix of "genders" is a problem because...?
@@VigilanteLulu I'm pretty sure that was just a lazy "miss" with no bigger meaning like "she is not a cis girl" or anything
They already made them and felt that was unnecessary to make a bit more original characters for other character then just took them as a base and changed their clothing and gender to match their human
Okay here's my idea when you are growing up you haven't solidified a personality or anything really So eventually they would all become one gender and would all look similar
To think people say Inside Out is better then the first Toy Story
The Man they do?!?!? It’s not that bad to me, but, better than Toy Story?!?!?

Am I the only one that didn’t cry at bing bong’s death.
You aren't.
Joseph Bresett Except, there weren’t any “pointless obstacles,” and he did more than that.
the first time i watched this movie i hated it bc joy (who i think of as basically the main character) was just so unlikeable and not a good role model. my friends, however, loved it and couldn't understand why i didnt like it
Joy starts off as a little selfish, thinking happiness is the only way for Riley and doesn't fully understand Sadness's purpose, but throughout the movie she learns more about how it could be expressed. It's called DEVELOPMENT, dude!

Parents take things WAY too seriously sometimes. It's just an animated movie.
Also how is the movie "manipulative" in any way?
I wondered if kids would think that, too...then, if they look up 'voices in my brain' or 'people in my brain making me do things,' they'd self-diagnose as having dissociative identity disorder

I'm liking this video not because I agree but because she makes valid points.

Bro this movie was just so boring. It felt like it went on for a whole day.
Joy is the reason I did not like this movie!
I like it but Joy was such a dick to sadness

Aw, I See. But Still, I Think Inside Out is AWESOME!!
I hated inside out
You can say that again!!!
I honestly felt like this was a very overhyped film, it’s nowhere near as good as people make it out to be, but I’m glad that Pete Docter has now given us a much better movie imo with Soul
Charlie Brown= crab on ROR team that didn’t look as intense but actually got a good score and did truly good
Inside out= the intense 2 headed monster from OK that looked like they tried really hard but truly and deservedly failed.
Yes! I'd actually never seen any of his other work before, and now I can totally see why they wanted him as Anger! Haha!

Buckle up bc there’s gonna be a part 2 😂
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I’M FINALLY NOT ALONE!
The character design of the emotions in this movie was darn awful
It's okay to be wrong 👌
Who the fuck runs away just cuz they move to a different place
I know right?!?

Do you think monsters university had an actual good message? I do.
It's not an unpopular opinion, Pixar has not been good since Toy Story 3
To me the only "good" pixar films are Toy story 1, Monsters inc, finding nemo, the incredibles, Ratatoullie, and wall-e
@@Emper0rH0rde well have there been any recent pixar movies that have slightly interested you since then or do you still stand by your point?
Buzz light year
Erm, Coco, Soul and Luca would like a word with you about that.
Also I don't understand why Bing Bong died. It doesn't make any sense why they killed him off!
The hockey game she expressed sadness when she needed to and that’s what opened joy’s Mind to the importance of sadness, but that’s how i see it
When I watched it as kid, I just felt it was boring and unfunny. Watching it now... it STILL BORING AND UNFUNNY
She is radically a robot, yeeeah
Don't forget the BC SFX
i agree again bing bong is really pointless and his death meant nothing
sadness should have led joy to HQ
I FEEL YOU-literally was restraining myself from wanting to fOkiN sTraNGLe sadness through the goddamn screen lmao, movie overall out of every Pixar and Disney animated movie I've seen, is probably the worst one yet imo ;-;
@@safewayman Totally agree! it could have been great but it was just bad.
WOW I HATE THIS MOVIE TO THANK YOU
Hmmmm....very interesting video.🤔 First, I would like to start off by saying that Inside Out is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I completely respect your opinion.
Thank you finally somebody who agrees with me I f****** hate this movie with a passion.

Inside out is gooooooooood but i respect your opinion
Yeah I hate inside out so much and I’m annoyed that I watched it
I love this movie but I respect your opinion but I think if you watched the emoji movie you would praise inside out forever.
Thank you for being respectful! But, just cuz there's a worse movie doesn't mean the "better" movie of the two is good. I've definitely seen movies worse than Inside Out, but it doesn't make me like Inside Out any more.
Faith's Take oh I see, what movies do you hate more than inside out?
Just because one specific terrible movie is better than the other doesn't make it good.
both are equal trash
