- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- From the 2012 HAMMER restoration of 'Dracula' (1958). Featuring Dracula's complete sunlight disintegration, which was previously unreleased in the U.K.
Starring Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee.
Directed by Terence Fisher.
Music by James Bernard.
Two phenomenal actors here ladies and gentlemen. May they both rest in peace.
This is why vampires should never add windows to their homes.
Peter Cushing was so bad-ass.
As was Christopher Lee at 0:53
It's crazy seeing Tarkin and dooku fighting each other.
Tarkin vs Count Dooku in the ultimate battle for Emperor Palpatine's favour (in an alternate universe) haha
Fun Fact: Darth Vader is also played by a Hammer Horror star, as David Prowse played The Monster in Hammer's "The Horror of Frankenstein."
Nice. I like that.
i heard in a old interview or read about how it was Cushing who came up with the candle stick cross during one of the takes and they liked it and kept it in.....
Cushing also came up with the idea of running across the table and leaping onto the curtains to pull them down, and I believe insisted on performing the stunt himself.
@@michaelm9810 I read somewhere that Cushing said the scene needed "a jolly good Douglas Fairbanks leap," and he was so right.
It was xx
Poor Christopher but seriously Christopher and Peter are the best macabre masters of the cinema world.
Christopher Lee was very good in the 1970 Count Dracula movie too.
The part where Van Helsing runs over and rips the curtain off is badass
This is pretty visceral stuff. Imagine back in 1958!! Such a fantastic film. Peter Cushing's look is so masterful: he pities the monster and shows so much humanity.
I so like how he moves the candle sticks as a cross as he gets closer....way cool
Christopher Lee is the best Dracula, bela Lugosi was second best
Agree!
Well I agree with you that Mr Lee and Lugosi was the best Dracula but so was Frank Langella because he was also the best Dracula!
+@@cyranothecat Jonathan Frid. Dark Shadows 1966-71.
There is absolutely NO one comparable to the great Chris Lee as Dracula, and this spectacular performance was the very best of Hammer Films…..a timeless classic, which still chills the viewer to this day!
Wow. I am a lifelong fan of Hammer, and for me, this sequence was legendary; I know the cuts like the back of my hand. But to see this new UK edit with these incredible moments ... damn. That was a treat.
And yes, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were something special.
Question: when Dracula falls at 1:23 an instant before Van Helsing rips down the curtains, is that a blooper or intentional? I’ve seen several commentators call it a mistake, but my interpretation is that Dracula hurls himself to the floor deliberately to avoid the sunbeam, but ends up getting caught in the leg anyway. So, not actually a mistake.
Lee had to wear contact lenses that seriously impaired his vision and it was very common for him to trip and fall during filming
I would say you are right on the money with how each portion of Dracula’s body disintegrates as Van Helsing forces it into the light.
I always thought it was him just trying to dodge the sunlight by going under the table but failing
Actually, included in the special features of this release are the original Japanese reels; if you would like, I'll upload them.
The score to this film (composed by James Bernard) was nothing short of magnificent. It set the mood perfectly throughout the entire film. Many thanks, James Bernard. Many thanks, Hammer studios. No other actors could have filled these two roles except Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee. May they both rest in peace.
This is way fucking better than crap Twilight
Este si era Van Helsing no la porquería de Netflix
Forgive me, but I remember seeing this 'complete sunlight disintegration' of Dracula when I saw the film in 1958 in England. It was a very powerful scene and I have never forgotten it. I think one scene was cut - this was when Johnathan Harker goes to put a stake in Dracula. He is so 'overcome' by the sight of 'a bridge' after adding a stake that he loses track of time. When he goes to Dracula's coffin, it is empty.
He looks towards the exit and see that it is now dark and there stands Dracula with a smerk on his face and then closes the door of the crypt.
This is where I believe the film was cut.
Originally, I believe, the screen remained dark while one heard 'the battle' going on and heard the screams and the sucking of blood.
Whatever was cut or not cut, this is a classic and a great horror film. I always watch it when it is shown on TCM.
How old are you
You saw this movie in 1958? Are you in your 90s?
gamma626 It was X rated, only adults.
Peter Cushing should have won an Oscar so underated
Hey, check it out. Chritopher Lee hits the deck before the curtains were pulled down by Peter Cushing!
I'm not trying to be petty; it's just amusing. This is one of my favorite movies.
Hmmm.....do I detect a little fear and desperation on the Count's face at 1:14?
Could it be that after some 500 years, he knows he's met his match?
The killed my man....darn!!!!!
I just heard about Christopher Lee. Very sad news.
best horror dracula ever!!!
I prefer the color timing on this release. More in line with the original trailer's. Nice and dark.
They shouldn;t of deleted this scene then we wouldn;t have to buy the DVD again but great performances from Christopher and Peter outstanding top class actors,
El señor lee trabajo en la guerra de las galaxias🇺🇸👍,,,
This films piercing soundtrack always reminds me of Max Steiner's famous King Kong perfectly done.
YESSS! ❤️
A masterpiece. In all respects. Soundtrack that makes yr blood curdle, originality, acting, the works. Unequalled in the following franchises.
I think Dracula in this has two personalities: when he's stalking he acts all tough, but when Helsing hunts him & knows his time is up he becomes scared;he runs like a real wimp, a school bully now being bullied himself lol.I can't escape the infamous Dracula falling to the floor shot, despite some say he was trying to escape the light, it just doesn't feel like that, like Lee either tripped over or overrated abit.He does overact, but at least it shows they were having a great time on set.
first time ive seen that version.much more powerful than the uk version.how many more hammer gems are out there, waiting to rise from the tomb?(sorry)
christopher lee and peter cushing two great actors rip to them both
Tarkin vs dooku
Esses filmes eram muito bons, não perdia um.
That's not a complete version,I Saw a video before where this desintegration is much more longer!
i love them both as a fan no matter how short there parts are in other movies i have respect for both of them and to do my tradition watching there movies in memery i like star wars but mainly there hammer films well for Cushing he was cool but lee as count dooku is just my cup of tea and cushing fine as Tarkan to . ps i see count dooku in attack on titan if you guys have seen that he is not in it but would that be just cool seeing count dooku as a good guy against big monsters
The best ending ever ...
this is about 37 seconds longer than the other one this is in the UK is it coming to the US or not
love this fight best fight cool fight i mean the other fights are ok it just felt that cushing should have been there when lee got burnt in the scars of dracula or lee should have been the one leading the undead soldiers aganst van Helsing i like the santanic rites of dracula and ad 1972 those are my cup of tea to i also see cushing and lee as a fan as dracula and van helsing in a lot of anime
I've been trying to find the complete soundtrack to this movie does anybody know the name of the song played at the end credits or is it just unknown
I have it on CD contact me for details email me christopherfrankclee@outlook.com
Dracula should have had the windows boarded up
This is a great film that never gets old.
My brother and I saw The Horror of Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein as Double feature when we we 8, 9 yrs old. I’m 73 yrs old and probably have watched it 30 times over the yrs The Dracula movies currently

I don't know where you watched it, but the Drive-ins were great, I am fortunate to live in an area where there are still family-owned drive-ins!
Van Helsing: I will haunt you and the night!
R.I.P.
So that's why of the scene in the BBC Dracula series!!
Two great actors who were great friends.
this is one of the greatest movie scenes and ending of all time
I will then crush Dracula with one swift stroke!
Love this movie...but there was an obvious mistake here. When Cushing goes to take the curtains down. Lee falls back far too early. He falls back before the curtains are ever brought down.
I'm not sure; I think it'll just be a case of keeping an eye out for it.
I've always wondered why Dracula takes too long opening the trapdoor; he opens it in the 1st shot well before Helsing gets there, yet when Helsing finds him he's still lifting it up, he had plenty of time to hide.I'm never sure what to make of restored shots.I think once you've seen the film as it was originally, it's hard to adjust to it when there's been added shots.I think the extra clawing face shot is quite irrelevant to the films pace.I think it's much more eerie to see it just 'melt'.
You're welcome; I'll see what I can do about the side by side comparison.
Wrong aspect ratio!
Outstanding... over 60 years and still a superb performance by both men.
Unfortunately this wasn't the last we saw of dracula because he came back time after time more evil then before! I always liked the relief when it was over but he came back again and again
But he came back time after time more evil and sinister then before!
You're welcome; I'll get to it right away!
tarkin and count dooku
Doesn't cut together as well with the added footage. Great to see, but hopefully there's two versions with/without the footage if they ever rerelease it on DVD/Bluray.
dooku vs tarkin
My guess is the hand crumbling scene was done with thick dried clay over a hand and all they had to do is wiggle the fingers and it would crumble off
The ole candle holders into cross trick, I knew that one at a pretty young age lol. Love these old Hammer films.
This is NOT the complete disintegration scene. If you watch the unrestored Japanese reels included with this disc set as archival materials, you will notice that there are three shots missing from Hammer's 2012 restoration! Of particular note is a close up reaction shot of Dracula's grimacing face. It is apparent that Hammer did not do a complete restoration from the available materials received.
I was afraid of beeing desapointed by this, because i thought the only difference was the face-ripping-of-scene. I didn´t expect to see the extended shots of his arm and leg and the shot of the growning Dracula under the table. This is exactely what i alway missed in the cut version (nervertheless i was deeply impressed by it since i saw it as a kid). This flows really nice. The only problem is the adjustment of the sound. Seems that the japaneese footage didn´t have a soundtrack?
You're very welcome.
Never gets old!
I watched this movie on TV when I was a kid in the early 70's, all the UHF channels showed old movies before all that syndicated Kungfu crap came along. I almost sh!t my pants, damn it was fun!
Why didn´t they just take the ending from the japanese print and restored it with the sound? The music adjustments in this version are so awful!
You're very welcome
Greatfight
Keep in mind that in these vampire films, the sun does not burn them it just causes them to rot and decay much much much faster. There was no smoke coming from him nor any flame. He just rotted fast and went to dust not ashes.
Could you please upload the longer seduction scene of Mina ?
I'm with you, man!
and you need to do a side by side comparison if that is not to much to ask for
I would like to see you upload the same sequence from the Japanese reels so people could see the truly complete scene as director Terence Fisher intended.
I've been waiting to see this restored scene. Thanks very much for sharing it.
hammer must still have the original negative to this, surely
That would be awesome...Thanks for offering on this!
Thanks so much for uploading this!
What about doing the opening of it would love to see it without the stupid horror of on there
thanks for the quick answer dude
I second that thank you my good man
Great upload, I love these old Hammer movies.
AWESOME. THANK U
The two small clips of Dracula's arm breaking off and his face peeling off in his remaining hand are so brief that they really don't add anything to the scene. The scene as it plays out in the more widely available versions is effective without those two tiny inserts. I can see why they were cut out in the first place.
Still, this was a terrific ending to the movie, and actually much better than Dracula's death in the original Stoker novel. And James Bernard's frantic battle music is tops.
Reid Mason Indeed! Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were the BEST things that ever happened to British horror, period.
I think the additional shots make the scene a million times better. Maybe even a billion times better.
Porfle Popnecker Indeed, additional
footage and shots do make for the better-another example of this would be the 1965 Barbara Steele horror hit, Nightmare Castle-the uncut version fills in so much and helps you understand the characters better and gives a better picture.
Sadly, we don;t see Barbara's titties though, lol :-(
1:41 Huah!
Looks like Hillary and her campaign
Way to kick a dead horse there.
