Ooooooh so that’s what that guy meant. I played at a tourney and did this on accident but he thought I did it on purpose (I agreed because I didn’t want to look stupid) I never did it again
Were you fighting an ultimate thing on a rock?
wumbo do you like rigby?
PengPeng I like ur mom
@@supwumbo6621 NOOOOOOOOOOO
After testing this at 1 frame advance...your biggest problem will be doing this TOO QUICKLY. Falco needs to leave jumpsquat and have 2-4 frames of fast acceleration upwards. If you go too fast, you're just doing a normal full jump, even though you are executing a double jump. If you double jump+attack on the same frame, you can start earlier since you'll need less height to cool down the up air.
I use a custom controller layout, and I found success with doing the jumps with L and the upair with c stick, just 1 or 2 frames later. It's muscle memory for me now! But I was trying to go at mach speed when you absolutely need a frame or 2 of gap to get the jump height.
Maybe if you do this onto a low platform like on stadium, its less precise.
Oh yeah. And it matters if you're buffering a full hop vs a short hop
Been doing this for months now with meta knight i just called it short hop double jump. Great to see it applied to other characters!
2:25
Trixx: "press up, X or Y to jump."
Falco: "what? you just now explaining the controls!?"
OKAY HEAR ME OUT:
Up Throw > Active Hop Up air > Nair drag down > grounded footstool > Firebird
Obviously this would only work if they land on the top platform though.
How much damage we talkin about?
@@tatarsauce6314 firebird does 43 alone
around 67-69 damage. honestly a bit underwhelming.
@@hupppp nice
back to the lab again
C it never ends lol
"claw is best method for using this tech"
*plays on arcade stick*
Me: this is free-real estate
Ultimate players: Check out this insanely techinical new tech skill, it's called a double jump.
im4everskilled no ones hating on melee or whatever you play bro smh. Theres no problem if people have low tech skill its just a game.
Nicholas Termignon Yeah but it’s still really stupid that double jumping is considered technical. What’s next dash grabbing us going to be tech? Hopefully not but with how generally low skill Ulitmate is (coming from a competitive ultimate player) it’s sad to see people just blindly accepting stupid things like this and not actually talking about broken issues like the top tiers being unfun to fight and play and issues with the current meta.
Sweetmamaschili most videos arent like this one, i dont think this complicated honestly but its just sharing knowledge.
Nicholas Termignon It would’ve been a better idea to just call it a combo or set up, giving it a dramatic name and having it be a simple combo extension is lowkey and insult to more serious tech that Falco is capable of like the many combos that can come from his grounded footstool and stuff
Sweetmamaschili yeah i guess, it doesnt really hurt anyone tho. Have a good night/day
Ay yo you guys discovered how to IDJ combo before Snasen! Holy shit!
Ok so I wanna correct something here. When doing instant double jumps, you can use two different buttons. Imagine using x and y. You can short hop with x and immediately double jump with y, but there is one condition. You have to let go of x before you y
Game changer. I have improved my game 1000% by watching your videos man. Just want to say thanks. Keep em’ coming. I check your channel almost every day haha
Wel, for instant double jump I found two other solutions easier/faster than double tap for me :
- Short hop with a button and use another button to double jump, I find it personally faster and easier than double tap. I personally use pro controller/joycons so I set two shoulder buttons to jump (on the same side but you can have one jump on each side) and if you tap your first jump quick enough for a short hop, you have some frames to input another jump with the other button and will be able to buffer it in your jump squat, so it will be the closest possible to the ground. I personally just short hop with my index and use the middle finger of the same hand right after it to instant double jump with my second shoulder button (I also use this second button for full hop, so each finger is for each kind of jump).
- Another tech I found is to use tap jump, which doesn't register as the jump button so you can use tap jump + jump to do instant double jump
Those let you use c-stick
Well and instant double jump seems clearer than active hop? :)
Really useful tech to get access to yoshi's double jump armor
Sorry for bothering you 4 years later but I really struggle to switch to tap jump
Is tap jump into jump equally as fast (and consistent) as 2 jump buttons into jump?
I used this on a tourney yesterday and it worked like a charm but instead of using grab I did an up tilt combo, took an easy 64% out of an incineroar. Thanks trixx
I've been doing this since Melee actually. I always used early double jumps with Falco to manipulate and control my peak jump height. I always thought it was natural until Brawl (mods) when I noticed my main rivals had no clue why my air accuracy was so good or why I kept losing jumps when I traded with them out of a jump attack.
For me in Smash Ultimate, it became SUPER necessary when I learned that all characters had 2 EXACT jump heights now and you couldn't control jump height by how long you hold a button (I used to mix that with this in previous games). I thought I was gonna go mad until I realized Falco's Nair has like zero landing lag and drags people down to the ground!
But you can full hop or short hop depending on how long you hold the button?
@@jacoblindsey6888 yes, you can full hop or short hop but in Ultimate your full hop os always the same height and your short hop is always the same height.
I could be wrong, but I remember in older smash games being able to control how high your full hops and short hops were by how long you held the button before releasing, so I could choose to have a single jump go higher than a short hop but shorter than a full hop if I held the button for a certain amount of time. So basically you could control your exact jump height and "short hop" and "full hop" were just your minimum and maximum height possibilities.
I remember taking advantage of this ALOT, so when Ultimate removed it and gave us 2 specific jump heights for each character and no ability to do anything in between, it bugged the crap out of me and I had to use early double jumps alot more to control my exact jump height.
I know this is a real old comment but the only game with more than 2 jump heights is 64 where each character I believe had 4 jump heights
Little things take you a long way, or in this case bring you up to different heights.
Very well explained and coherent video :) active is a great player currently ranked 3rd in Oregon. A montage with him in it will soon be released on my channel if anyone wants to see more falco combos!
Sacred Sanctuary looking forward to seeing it dude!
Ever since I've watched this I've been doing this consistently. It's not really that hard, looks sick and is an awesome combo extender
This has been a thing, especially for characters with multi jumps. Instant double jumps or short hop double jump
I watch this video day 1 and thought that I would never use this Tech just today I figured it out and it's so satisfying to use really helping me step my Falco game up
This is excellent
Going to share this to a Facebook group I'm on.
Benny Warren thanks so much dude!
Sometimes I feel like Down Air is an appropriate option instead of a Fast Fall Nair. This setup is versatile and I love it.
I had figure'd out that you could jump this way in one combo I have been practicing, but I of course didn't think of using it in this way.
Interesting how some characters like falco have been using the IDJ tech before it was widely known about. I've been trying to work this into my combos and this video explains everything really well in terms of falco combos, so thanks!
This is now called "IDJ'
Send this to Gimr I want to see him lab out possible combos on every character. Might be able to get a true Dair follow up after up throw with Diddy, which would be incredibly useful
I've been doing this exact tech for like months, its super useful and has pillar followups
Thanks to you I picked up falco
Zling Z welcome to the family!
Great video, definetly gonna be in the lab today grinding this. I was wondering if you could make a video on Edge-cancelling with Falco and the uses of it. Dont know if its the same as in Melee but in Melee it was the most stylish tech imo.
Benzen edge cancelling does exist in ultimate but traction is so high on platforms that it’s impossible to get even somewhat consistently, shame cos it’s one of my favourite things about melee
I have been trying to do these combos without knowing about this tech. I was literally practicing FRAME ONE timings, and when all it took was this.
Toward the start of the video I was like "How is this any different from an IDJ?" (Instant double jump)
Then toward the end "Now I see"
Been maining Falco and Sonic since day 1! This is so useful!
Let's gooooo Active! Good to see the PNW getting recognition apart from Pandarian. Lots of good players up here, we just don't really travel. Shout-outs to Rose for mentioning this to me, if he sees it. :)
How did I not know about this? This is worth gold.
When this first came out people thought it was stupid.. Now it's the falco standard. People never change I'll tell Ya
This is so revolutionary for falco. This with the new buffs. My secondary just became a lot better. Thank you
Huh. I've been doing this by accident for so long and didn't know it had any practical use. Time to practice this new, awesome tech.
Thanks for the tutorial! I was looking for some good falco combos :)
This is a good video. I'm a Falco main myself, so I have to learn this.
They put Snake in this game, then buffed Sheik, and now my boy Falco got buffed. This is the best time of my life for this game right now! Also my boy Villager got buffed! He is so cheeky lol Also, when using Falco's Nair in a combo, hitting people with the hitbox on Falco's back rather than the front can lead to some nasty combos and kill options!
Ive been doing this with kirby since the first week of ultimate. It works well for battlefields lower platforms
Tweek does this with wolf I’m pretty sure. I recall him doing this in Genesis
This really ups my platform game, nice!
Ive also been using this without realizing it was a thing cuz i play claw
As someone who uses claw grip this was incredibly easy to learn lol thanks
Lol, it's funny that nowadays everyone knows about Instant Double Jump but back in the early Meta people called it active jump, jump 1.5, half double jump... and never realised it was the same tech. That's actually hilarious.
Peaches do this to get extra range on float cancel fair and bairs
Wow that's great and even doable in actual game I think. Thanks.
It's much much easier to do it for me with double jump to buffer sh and then cancel with 'regular' jump(even with shoulder button for second jump and tilt stick upair). Try it out I kid you not. I feel like double jump for sh is ridiculously nice consistency improving option many people entirely overlook :
As far as I'm concerned, Tap jump doesn't overwrite with another jump, sometimes i do a double jump on accident since i use tap jump (i know it's unoptimal but hear me out) so you can buffer the first jump and press up and A to get the double jump and the uair as fast as possible. Hope this helped, i'm not really sure if tap jump overwrites or not but i think it's worth a try. Love ur vids man, gg.
Does that mean you can fully buffer this tech? If it does I'm in
@@jebstuart3162 not fully buffer, but rather make it harder to buffer the short hop, since 2 jump buttons make a short hop. Although now that you mention it, it might be fulle bufferable, but it probably needs testing. As i said, I'm not 100% sure if the tap jump overlaps in the short hop.
ive been doing this with stick jump since i picked up Falco I didnt know it had name lol.
I've been doing this ever since I started playing Falco and didn't realize it was an actual tech with a name...
It's crazy how no one knew about this before, and now it's being applied to every fighter... on top of now I'm seeing better falco's now doing this more recently and frequently as IDJS.
But.. this I feel is much better than IDJ.
I was from the future.
Link bounces really weird at 5:24. I have never seen that before.
Lol he is so bugged lol
I was watching Larry Lurr's latest video (Falco Guide for Dummies) and he mentioned active hop when talking about combos. So I guess he watched your video.
i do active hops with mewtwo, fh ff dair > active hop uair > fair at 45% to around 70% kills off the side, just never knew it had a name
I use claw, so how I do it is with my index finger then follow it up with my thumb.
This is very useful, thanks dude!
Sick stuff
I’m having trouble to get the nair on the combo counter - I do my double jump Upair and I get the drag down, but the nair does not register as a combo. In the video he has examples of him hitting the combo counter, as well as examples where he does not hit the combo counter... Does it matter? And if it does matter, what might a common mistake/mistakes be that make it untrue while still getting the drag down?
it's a lot like how mewtwo would use DJ uair fair after d tilts in s4
This is also a technique used for inklings kill confirm.
Perfect guide, thank you
This video is great! But something is partially wrong. You can do this with using two different jump buttons, I can do it with r set to jump and tap jump while using the C-Stick to do the attack.
This is pretty much the exact same input as doing Boo-Yah with inkling.
I never said you cant use 2 jump buttons, i just said 9 times out of 10 you are probably going to accidentally input a auto short hop, so because of that i simplified the inputs so that people could get it right every time, keep it consistent and straight forward, you could technically do this with a shoulder button and the C stick, but a ton of people are going to have issues with performing it. but you can do what ever is most comfortable for you,
Having a hard time getting the drag down when it’s a medium height platform. Any tips?
Lots of characters already did this. Sheik has to double jump short hop to nair twice.
Amazing i put my japanese twitter follower on this
Great video dude
Thanks man. Theres a part 2 coming soon
I've tried this out before, but I always thought it had to be the top platform. Didn't know it works for the sides too.
Similar to a jump cancel with Mewtwo? I often cancel his normal jump with an immediate double jump to get to specific heights at the right time (with a rising upair or Nair (
that was sick
Wait is this just an IDJ? Or did people rename the active hop to IDJ?
Pretty much yes
Ive done this on accident a few times and i always wondered why i got so much follow up
Wow, that's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it! I also usually have to follow their drift after the up-air, otherwise the nair doesn't always connect.
So is the active hop the combo, or the act of jumping and immediately double jumping?
At this point in the meta the active hop is known as the whole thing. Originally it was the up throw double jump. But now someone says active hop combo and that know you are referring to the whole thing
Kind of like the ken combo or ally (yikes) combo in Smash 4
Okay, thanks
Every time i get the double jump Up air into Nair, my opponent is always behind me when i land. Am i doing it wrong?
Nice Minecraft tech
Great vid💯
I see now how this is different from the snasen method because he is using attack within the double jumps and using 2 jump buttons while with active hop you press the same jump button twice then perform the attack
This "new tech" has been around for 20 years, and is known as "double jumping early to get to a specific height." It isn't ADVANCED [FALCO TECH], and it doesn't require or deserve a special name.
I think I should change it
🥶🥶
wait, I've been doing this... I didn't know people weren't aware of it.
Watching this 4 years late because I’m trying to learn some Falco and a couple mins in I’m like wait… this is just IDJ. How did Falco players know about IDJ for two years and nobody knew? Lmao
I don’t know why but I’m really struggling with this this combo
I'm so hyped
2:03 : Are you sure this is due to buffer and not to the shorthop 2-button shortcut that was added post-launch?
This mans is a genius
Anyone have any tips on fast falling the nair after up air. A lot of times when I do this on the lower platforms my nair doesnt fast fall and the entire move connects so I cant follow up further with a grab or up tilt
when you use claw grip :)
instant double jump isnt too hard with shoulder jump, or at least not on digital jump buttons
The up air always hits the opponent too far away to hit them with the Nair
Stale moves off. It has to be done at 0-5% and you gotta follow di. Also if you aren’t doing idj it won’t work.
Great stuff for mii gunner
Is it possible to do this with a cstick since I use claw
What percent does this stop working off upthrow would you say?
BN Stops working really early. After 10% you cant do it
You can start to use up tilt at around 40. Zoo you can do it again if you accidentally mess up with the throw combo
Jesus what have I’ve been doing for the last ten months
Samus been doing this since smash 4. It was a must for her combo extension. This isn't tech.
How do you do this on Joycons
So people didn't know this was a thing yikes I've been going this since before plant's release
This tech doesn’t seem to be very technical tbh. I think talking about something like the amazing grounded footstool > Fire bird set ups and stuff would be much more useful and interesting
Day 1 wolf and falco
Up air to uptilt usualy works for me on top platform
This is the single most hardest tech I've done. I get it by mashing jump after doing the throw.
But it took me months to do this compared to a few days with some of Rosa's tech
You’re bad lol
Soooo 1 caveat. Must have a platform
