After reading the last blog entry, I've been so worried about Phabeni. He looks well and I'm so happy to see it. Also, I always laugh that the easiest way to find Kumbura in the herd is to look for the baby because she'll be in that vicinity. She's such an amazing aunt and sister.

This was another fantastic video. I am so delighted for Bubi! I felt in my heart that this was going to happen. Your detailed summary was so wonderfully written. This little bull is changing everything. And for the unity of the HERD. Setombe is so gentle. I think she is realizing it's her moment and the rest are giving her that chance. Even Tokwe and Lundi know it. Everyone seems so relaxed and happy to be with each other. Bubi, you go girl. This is giving you the confidence you need. No more sidelines for you!
Good Morning Herd!❤Awesome updates for us Owen! Thank you! I’m so happy that Bubi found a place that makes her more inclusive to the Herd! Also Thanks to Last! The baby Phabeni is bringing all the females together, amazing. No one has been left alone. 😊
I'm so engrossed enjoying the herd, then I become aware of myself and realise that I have an enchanted smile on my face, knowing how the babies are cherished and are bringing the mothers together. They are such caring and kind parents, it's endearing to see. A sweet beginning to my day, and I wish I could be there too. 🤗💖
Thank you Adine, Owen and Last for explaining the new dynamic within the Herd It is true that before the arrival from Phabeni, Bubi was not close to the other cows mostly alone or with Fishan or Zindoga and the same for Dame Setombe who only liked the company of Klaserie or sometimes Sebakwe with whom she shares her stahl at the Homestead and now with Phabeni Bubi is closer to Setombe as allomother to the little Bull as well as Kumbura whose love for babies is undeniable and even the young cows like Khanyisa, Timisa and even Pisa are interested by the feisty Baby Tokwe seems to be sad not taking care of the new baby and I hope she is doing ok with the dynamic changes she is such a fantastic Matriarch, Mama and adoptive mother ❤🐘🫶
Wow, what changes due to the arrival of little Phabeni! You just wonder what clicked with Setombe that she decided to become his mother. And now additionally has stepped into the role of Matriarch, no more just Setombe and daughter Klaserie. Ms. Bubi dropping her loner act, getting close to Setombe and not displaying proprietorship over Phabeni like she did with Khanyisa. I’m curious to see what Tokwe will do. Will she still always make sure the herd is settled and safe before going about her own activities, will she still check on the babies when they’re with other females. Limpopo has always been mama’s backup, so with Setombe being Matriarch, how will that affect her and also Klaserie. This is just incredible.
I thought Tokwe was still the herd matriarch. (?) Since we humans can only witness shifts in their relationships vs being privy to elephant 'negotiations', 😊 every day holds surprises.
Tokwe is still the Matriarch Dame Setombe is the Dean and now surrogate mother to Phabeni but I didn't think it has changed the role of the Matriarch or ????
Adine has always made it clear that Setombe may have suffered traumas as a young calf/cow in Zimbabwe,, before she moved South to South Africa in 2002 as a result of the rescue by Lente Roode. I wont go into detail, but research suggests that young calves could suffer PTSD as a result of being separated from their mother in horrible circumstances associated with elephant rides. This is the dark side of what went on in Zimbabwe - and other places in S Africa It seems to me, at least, that it is entirely possible that this is why Setombe, who is now a physically big adult female, lacked confidence until the birth of Klaserie - which in itself is a tribute to Lente Roode, since Klaserie was the second calf of the Zimbabwe females born in RSA. i.e. Setombe felt more safe in RSA than in Zimbabwe. It does not explain why Tokwe, Lundi and Bubi and indeed the Zimbabwe bulls, -all younger than Setombe (except Sebakwe) - did not suffer PTSD as well, though one may guess. It is heartrending that a small orphan could now help Setombe in her last phase of rehabilitation - to restore the mental strength and happiness she previously lacked all these years. and it would be almost the stuff of Hollywood if Setombe strolled from her nightmare and assumed the reign of Matriarch, though you can see why she could now do so. I do wonder how Tokwe and Lundi view all this - after all, six months ago, they went in search of an orphan calf. This is an orphan herd and almost unique in its travails and challenges, Will they try again?
This is a most interesting thread! I've been just as curious with these herd dynamics shifting and so fluid. Setombe was the biggest enigma for me since I've been following this channel 4 years ago; I've always wondered about the mental scars blocking Setombe from assuming the mantle of matriarch. I noticed how she almost usurped Lundi to take on the surrogate mother role for Phabeni - it struck me that Lundi didn't really put up much of a contest; neither did Tokwe. Setombe seemed to finally pull rank on the rest of the cows, somehow? Adine has also mentioned how Setombe is a disciplinarian to the young bulls - but we've seen these young bulls push around and chase Lundi and Bubi (not Tokwe) - thus left me wondering whether they also bully Setombe as well or whether she's able to stand her ground like Tokwe does? That would be another clue to Setombe's state of mind, so to speak. Also, The age gap between Tokwe and Setombe isn't large, I think it's 3 years or so. Not all that significant; I'd imagine their size difference is miniscule. We know size matters in elephant society. How does that affect the herd dynamics here? There's so many aspects to these dynamics, I just never quite know how to pen my thoughts coherently, but it's most fascinating to observe how the power dynamics and leadership hierarchies play out among the Cows.
@@Vaal650 Dame Setombe is not afraid to sparring with the youngest Bulls especially mischevious Mambo who is sometimes looking for trouble and also Zindoga

Phabeni is so happy with his new family. So thrilled to see how this has played out. One day this little baby will be a big bull and will be called on to welcome a new, scared little orphan, and he will remember his past and step up. Just like Jabu and the others have done for him. Love what you are all doing at HERD!!! Thank you❤
I love how the whole time you were talking about how Phabeni loves to swing his trunk, Fishan was swinging his tail! 😂 I love him. He's my favorite of the bulls.
Not the bulls though. They don't care about the babies. It's only the matriarchs who raise them. When they die the calves won't last long unless they find another matriarch coz they won't find any solace with older bulls who live alone or in herds of other bulls.
That little man, with his red blankie, knows he is special!!! You can see how happy he is with his eyes. When he looks at Nadine, he's saying, 'see how special I am???' Just makes you want to hug him and kiss his little head.
It's so heartwarming to see Phabeni run and be so excited to join his new herd. He isn't sad or lonely anymore. It seems the trauma he went through has gone away. Well done, everyone at HERD ❤
What an amazing blessing to be able to spend each day with these precious elephants. Watching all of you, your relationship with them as intelligent family, it is a treasure to see. I wonder, did any of you ever have your child gone missing, then you go out and find them safe asleep with the elephants?
Hope Phabeni is feeling better now, and taking his bottles. He is just so cute. I love him to bits, but our pink princess Khanyisa is still a soft spot in my heart. ❤❤❤❤
Talking of trunks and tails, I love that Khanyisa's tail end is white 💜I think Phabeni has changed everyone's energy he comes into contact with - he really is a little character, full of wonder and mischief, and love. The herd seems to have 'woken up, they seem so much more energized' - I think Phabeni keeps them on their toes (in the best possible way). He is a blessing! 💜
Phebeni has really come into his own now and will one day be a magnificent bull with all the character he displays. Thankyou all for the caring of all the ellies. 🐘♥️
We Are Family!!! All these beautiful creatures put their differences aside for the newest member!!! So proud of Bubi and Setombe!!! Klasserie as well for her pure acceptance of Beni...willing to give up a piece of mom for this fiesty little sweetheart Beni! After reading the last blog entry, I've been so worried about Phabeni. He looks well and I'm so happy to see it. Also, I always laugh that the easiest way to find Kumbura in the herd is to look for the baby because she'll be in that vicinity. She's such an amazing aunt and sister.
Liverson is the elephant whisperer and I much prefer Phabeni in red plaid!
😂
Indeed! It's masculine, but not too macho. Very cute on this stylish little bull. 🙂❤🐘❤
@@GuantanamoBayBarbie3 so agree with you!
It's a cute blanket on baby bull calf Beni
Adine and all the caretakers, yall do a phenomenal job taking care of the Herd. From small to giants, they all, feel safe being in your care.
Love and God's blessings for you. 🙏🙏
That blanket really suits Phabeni. He's a rock star elephant.
Phabeni is just sooo cute. He is so little but has such endurance. Im happy to hear he has brought the family closer to one another.
I love the way he runs, playtime. Beautiful ❤
The little guy looks so confident and comfortable with the herd
Good Morning Herd!❤Awesome updates for us Owen! Thank you! I’m so happy that Bubi found a place that makes her more inclusive to the Herd! Also Thanks to Last! The baby Phabeni is bringing all the females together, amazing. No one has been left alone. 😊
The little bull Phabeni has a big heart that has enveloped this herd for the better. He's truly a blessing 💖
@Beruthiel45 Isn't that the truth? Lovely comment. 😊
Your thoughts are very sweet. I feel the same way. The ellies bring joy to our lives. ❤
Phabeni is pretty much attached to Setombe’s hips.
Amazing.
Herds need babies as much as babies need herds. ❤❤❤❤
😊👌👍👋👋
Since we humans can only witness shifts in their relationships vs being privy to elephant 'negotiations', 😊 every day holds surprises.
This is the dark side of what went on in Zimbabwe - and other places in S Africa
It seems to me, at least, that it is entirely possible that this is why Setombe, who is now a physically big adult female, lacked confidence until the birth of Klaserie - which in itself is a tribute to Lente Roode, since Klaserie was the second calf of the Zimbabwe females born in RSA.
I am so impressed by Setombe becoming Phanbeni’s mother , she looks amazing too . Phanbeni is still practicing his charging I see . It is so good to see all the females being a herd to support Setombe and protect the little one , good practice for them all I think .❤️❤️
Like the red blanket, makes it easy to find Phabeni.
I'm so happy to see the change in Bubi. Phabeni really shook things up. What a little angel 💙
Thank you❤
But it was not to be😢
Thank you for the insight into herd dynamics!
I love how the whole time you were talking about how Phabeni loves to swing his trunk, Fishan was swinging his tail! 😂 I love him. He's my favorite of the bulls.
I actually was confused. I thought she was talking about Fishan’s tail but accidentally calling it a trunk. Now I know 😅
Everyone needs their " herd" ! Khanyisa is becoming such a big girl! Phabeni so excited to be among his family!
Nothing brings a Family together like a new baby!
@lkrzzie1955 What a gorgeous dog...is it yours?
Your beautiful herd are giving the new baby their very best!
The HERD and these videos, have renewed my faith in humanity. ❤️🐘🙏🏻
Phabeni is looking smart in his tartan coat today 🏴
Was just thinking how regal he looks! Heh - now I wonder if that matches a particular clan.
🏴💙🌿🐘
@@mortalclown3812 With that active little trunk, he's practically got a built-in bagpipe!!😂
Isn't our Phabeni just the cutest little boy 😍💖💖💖💖💖
It appears the entire elephant life is about the babies.
They understand that the young ones are the future of the herd, which means they also understand mortality.
That is the innate objective of a breeding herd: to defend and extend the dynasty of the herd.
With respect,
something tells me that would never happen at HERD. 🌍🐘🩵
I love that helping a baby ellie is helping other members of the herd ❤❤❤
Phabeni is fearless and I just love him! I love his little trot to the herd. You can tell he is happy and loves his new family!
Good afternoon to all the elephants, carers and Adine. I love watching you everyday. ❤️💫
Absolutely love the Herd can remember when Khanyisa was that small The whole herd is Absolutely Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Young elephants are so much like young humans. I raised two boys and see lots of similarities.
Boy has got his snazzy blankie on and is ready for today's adventures
Always such a joy to watch the herd. Phabeni is getting to be like a little race horse now a days in his eagerness to join his mother and the herd.
Phabeni is a real asset to the herd. Yes, he has real personality. I really love to see how he has progessed since his arrival at HERD
Hope Phabeni is feeling better now, and taking his bottles. He is just so cute. I love him to bits, but our pink princess Khanyisa is still a soft spot in my heart. ❤❤❤❤
I am so glad to see Phabeni feeling better and enjoying time with his herd again. Thank you all for everything you do for the elephants.
💯🩵🐘🦋💫
Phebeni has really come into his own now and will one day be a magnificent bull with all the character he displays. Thankyou all for the caring of all the ellies. 🐘♥️
We Are Family!!! All these beautiful creatures put their differences aside for the newest member!!! So proud of Bubi and Setombe!!! Klasserie as well for her pure acceptance of Beni...willing to give up a piece of mom for this fiesty little sweetheart Beni! Beyond grateful the little bull pulled thru his tummy issues and continue prayers his teething goes well without a flaw! Im confused about Tokwe...she is a excellent Matriarch...and despite Setombe being older...she has no interest in that position..I love all the new and unexpected dynamics...but hope Tokwe continues to lead this herd...with Limpopo in the wings. I love how Beni runs...and still tries to charge Adine full of joy to see her!! Carers narrative melts your heart. This is what we have all been praying for....Bless you Herd!!! ♥♥♥♥♥ We love you Beni!!!
Hi dear Renee, mi piace il tuo giusto commento.
@@vivianaiacomelli3080 Ciao Vivi!! Rimani dolce

Phabeni is a very lucky little boy! 💙
Such a heartwarming story about Setombe and Bubi. I always felt sorry for Bubi being such a loner. I also like in this video that the different Carers are being interviewed and giving insight to the dynamics of the herd.
Yes, Phabeni captured my heart! Phabeni, in his red blanket, the heart of the herd❤🐘💛🧡 Love to you all❣
😅😅😅 Phabeni does what he wants. Hi khanisa ❤️💕 hi Phabeni ❤️💕 hi all elephants 🐘❤️ and all of you 🍀
👋🏽 ❤️🐘❤️
Hi dear Candida.😊👌👍👋
I laughed when Adine called the warthogs "Pumba's" from the Jungle King. Whenever I see Phabeni is with Setombe I know that the others closeby include Klaserie and Kumbura! Its nice watching them all just enjoying their day and being safe to do so! Another enjoyable video with HERD! Thanks to all there for your care!
Seeing him amongst those tall reeds, I just remembered how very scared he was when he first arrived, but seemed to find some comfort amongst them 🥹.
Thank you so much for the great updates! I'm even happier that I've 'adopted' Setombe for a year; she absolutely deserves it. Phabeni is an absolute sweetie, and I know his human family has also done an amazing job, but Setombe's love and care has also really helped him feel safe and confident with his new life. I'm so glad Setombe is feeling embraced by her herd-sisters too. Thank you all! ❤💗
Beautiful boy Phabeni ! 🩶🐘🩶
Khanisa is getting so big! I can’t believe how much she has grown! So beautiful. Phabeni is such a joy to watch too. Soon he will be getting big! Love these videos of the whole herd. Thank you so much for sharing them HERD! Praying for all to have good health, animals and carers alike! Adine, you are amazing. What a blessing you all are. God bless!💕🙏🏻
Fascinating and insightful observations from team. Good for Bubi and Setombe!
So lucky for baby Phabeni to have his own loving, caring, protective and supportive herd!!❤❤
Beautiful Khanyisa is growing up!!❤❤
My heart goes to help and support Fishan!! Get well very soon and no pain Fishan!!💪💪💪
Please look after poor Fishan..don't leave him alone🙏🙏🙏
Be safe and healthy out there all of you HERD!!!❤❤❤
Love Gentleman Fishan as well until now Tokwe has always watched over her friend Fishan I do not presume it has changed ???🤔
I love the Herd! I hope Beni is getting better! ❤❤❤
It makes me so sad to learn that Bubi has been a bit on her own - so glad that this new little one has brought Bubi closer to Setombe. Sounds like Setombe needed a companionship too. Tiny Phabeni brought them all together!
It was Bubi's character to forage away from the others cows and same with Dame Setombe except that she was glued to daughter Klasserie
