    7:13 Just to clarify, Kobe 06 was triple Time Spiral, the time spiral block limited pro tour was the following year and it was the only time they did a two headed giant one, Lachman and van Lunen won it with one of the most amazing meta calls ever in the pro tour forcing slivers. Also I didn't make day 2 on Kobe either and remember the Kobe beef side event very vividly haha.

    Time Spiral block had so many cool cards. Magic needs another similar block, one where there's just all kinds of mechanics and weird fun cards.

    • @helderboymh
      @helderboymh 6 лет назад +4

      @ThisIsMyRealName but it wasn't, it was fun for enfranchised players but from a design point it was pretty bad for a normal set. It was a horrible experience for newer players.
      Don't get me wrong I love the set but saying it was a good design is just inaccurate.

    • @JonaxII
      @JonaxII 6 лет назад

      @@helderboymh that is true, but the problem is that for exactly the same reasons it was awful for new players it was awesome for the enfranchised ones.

      marcel helder I mean, "Expert" used to be written on packs for a reason: expansions aren't (weren't, at least) designed for new players, Core Sets filled that role. That's how magic became what it is, through complexity and weird mechanics. Nowadays expansions have been watered down, and complexity and new things are relegated to Mythics, so each expansion feels like the same, reskinned thing. I'd love a new Time Spiral block, more cards that have weird effects and side effects, cards that help your opponent as much as you, good cards with good downsides, cards that require actual choices and thinking. But I seriously doubt they'll ever backpedal. Appealing to a larger audience seems more important than having a compelling, enchanting game.

    So glad i checked the Lorwyn set after that remark on it … i can see why he doesn't like it, almost every color has 'almost have to' first pick-able cards in them that have been in every cube on MtgO that i ever watched, he must be pretty sick of those cards by now, so i get why that would effect his liking of Lorwyn. :P … then again, if it was sarcasm, i would recommend working on that intonation a bit ...

    It's not just that Riftmarked Knight has a gigantic text box with a ton of stuff going on that doesn't obviously go together. It's not just that its printed version had no reminder text for multiple complex abilities. That monstrosity is an uncommon. What is this block?

    • @mrknarf4438
      @mrknarf4438 6 лет назад

      petrie911 Flanking, Protection from and Suspend "complex" abilities? They appeared in countless cards in the block. What is this block? An "Expert" set. Not for newbies. Hell, they've printed a textless Cryptic Command, reminder text is just useless.

    • @petrie911
      @petrie911 6 лет назад

      @@mrknarf4438 Seriously, all three of those are commonly-cited examples of abilities that confuse players, as all three have obvious ways to go wrong. How many people forget that flanking doesn't apply to flanking? What about suspend granting haste? Protection protects my creature from my opponent's spells--but for some reason not wraths. And for some reason it also protects it from *my* spells? But only if they target? What?
      And you know what's a great way to not get new players? Saying they shouldn't be playing the new expansions. A game that doesn't get new players will die. But hey, at least you got to feel smart, right?

    • @mrknarf4438
      @mrknarf4438 6 лет назад

      @@petrie911 Yeah, right, since this game had been around and thriving for 13 years when this set came out. Lucky you, nowadays they're taking the complexity away. Sure, you had to remember flanking didn't apply to flanking (or call a judge) when it was an ability that came in that set and was explained on plenty of cards at common rarity. And that Suspend granted haste (or call a judge) when it was an ability that came in that set and was explained on plenty of cards at common rarity. And DEBT for prevention. It made it feel foreign and complex, and I enjoyed it. Nobody had to learn layers in order to play those cards, you only had to remember how they worked. Nobody is required to know those abilities to play magic, but the number of players that still can't understand Protection worries me. Would I rather have a game with less players, but more invested? Any day.
      (also protecting it from *your* spells was nothing new back in the days, Shroud and Blastoderm didn't confuse anyone. Slivers applied to all other slivers. Effects used to be symmetrical, not just beneficial, creating complexity)

      The Rick and Morty set, eh?

    • @gabriels1163
      @gabriels1163 6 лет назад +2

      @@Kryptnyt That's a good comparison. This set was specifically designed to be complex and interactive. But the complexity scared away the less intelligent players. Because of that, wotc changed the whole way they designed sets. They decided to change the game to have less interaction, and less skill needed. Yes, more people play magic now. But that is not necessarily a good thing for the players.
