He is such a unique talent, it amazes me how good his team developed his body. Check out his cover for Men's Health. To put on THAT much muscle and keep tender touch, fluidity...unstoppable machine. And just when I was ready to turn tennis off! Mediocrity and disrespect abound. So much whining. Zverev is very lucky not to be in jail for assault w/ how close he was to breaking a chair umps leg over and over!No punishment. Tsitspas makes a mockery of the rules, Djoker's hitting 80mph balls into lines womans throat, AND being such close friends w/ a the Commander of the military unit that committed the Srebrenica genocide. He recently sang at his wedding n became godfather to his daughter, falsifying travel documents under investigation in Spain, Turkey, UAE n Australia. ☆☆☆☆☆☆ Meanwhile, you have this young man who at any point of the match, regardless of the game score, if a ball is called out to Alcaraz's benefit but unlike every other player on tour who takes the point n moves on. If Alcaraz sees it as in, he will simply signal to the chair it's his opponent point w/o video review. He does have great vision (like Rafa) or McEnroe who has 20/10 vision. sorry for rambling.
I totally agree that Accras plays completely new level of tennis. I have been telling everybody about him and asking: "Have you seen him play? You must watch his tennis" I like his attitude and am just overwhelmed with his energy.

Also it would be dumb to say that the current players on the tour are not fit. There all fit some are more then other's. I just hope the kid has a long lasting career and doesn't get injured. Tennis is a lot of pounding and twisting and tourquing of the body. When you look at it in reality what The Fed and Rafa did between them to play as consistent and win so many slams and career titles is very impressive to say the least, and to do it for all those years is insane! I love Fed but he should honestly retire he isn't going to win another slam. Rafa is getting up there in the age bracket and also with the foot problem his days are limited. In reality the big three are done!
@@crsantin You have to understand not all have his mental strength. He twisted or sprained his ankle in his match against Nadal, he was mentally strong enough to win the quarter and a brutal 3.5 hour marathon against Djokovic. Not just that he was able to ignore the pain of a swollen ankle and a blister and won though admittedly Zverev was gassed. I recall Becker had blisters on his foot in a match against Connors and he actually stamped on them to play through the pain. That sounds masochistic but it's also a gift. Not everyone can do it. Even when he loses his natural speed as he gets older, his natural aggressive play will help him. Look at Nadal, he had to reinvent himself. Alcaraz doesn't, at least not to the extent Nadal did
@@bballah9969 Novak is not done. He is fitter than most people at 35. he won 3 slams last year and was robbed of the Aussie this year. He might have one more year before Carlos sweeps him.
After the Three Monsters who have been the tyrants of men's tennis starting back in 2003, when Federer won his first major at Wimbledon, finally a player arrives who will put an end to their rule. They've racked up 61 majors spanning 20 years in a row. We saw the Next Gen wither in the sun, waiting for their chance. Then it was the Next Next Gen (yeah, Thiem and Medvedev each won a U.S. Open). Now at last a Beast emerges from the Next Next Next Gen, and it looks like he's going to change the game completely. Carlitos Alcaraz is humble, but he also exudes confidence. The way he stood up to Djokovic in Madrid speaks volumes, as well as creating doubt in his opponent's mind. Hopefully he'll stay healthy and his coaches and family don't let him float too high up when he wins bigger things down the line. My dream scenario for Alcaraz is for him to fall on the opposite side of the draw as Nadal at the French Open, so they could only meet in the final, and for him to fall on the opposite side of the draw as Djokovic at Wimbledon.
At the end if 2021, I said Carlos is more complete than all the members of Big Three at the same age. And I got barraged with ridicule. Glad a coach of your magnitude agrees with me.
You are not alone. I saw it in the young master's final against korda and also in the USO quarters against Tsitsipas. Both matches were insane. Unbelievable shotmaking and he is a natural on fast surfaces and his firepower punches holes even on clay. Sure he makes more errors on clay, but look at his winners. That doesn't change much.
@@z1az285 Well we know that his favourite player is Roger Federer so of course he'll make a lot of errors, but that means he is very aggressive and he is always looking for a winner. That's why he has so many winners as well.
@@oldperro I mean, Novak said he has never ever played someone like Carlos, and even Rafa and Roger are not as complete, Uncle Toni said Carlos is more complete than Rafa at the same age. Do you think you know more than Novak, Rafa's Uncle, and Rick Macci? Are they also pickle ball fanatics 😂
I agree coach. Mental strength, exceptional movement, ability & confidence to hit short anytime, willingness to move into the forecourt. This will transform the game much like FedDalKovic did over the past 2 decades.
Guys lets calm down here. I love alcaraz and think he will be the best player of the next generation, however, its almost disrespectful in my opinion to think that he’ll easily achieve what the big 3 did. Those guys are aliens and it takes much more than talent to do what they have done.
I said over a year ago he would be #1 within a few years and he will likely beat my prediction. However, you are 100% correct everyone needs to calm down. His potential is extraordinary, but lets see where he is in a few years before we even start to talk about the Big 3 and he is going to be the GOAT.
Well said, Rick, and nice finish. I'd reached the same conclusion, looking at his game - he's significantly better than Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. Not at everything yet in each case. Trusting that this amazing smooth, powerful consistent technique will not lead to injuries. He handled the ankle twist brilliantly and beat Nadal and Djokovic nevertheless, with the result being mostly on his racquet. Yet very humble that the matches could have gone either way against these great champions. Soon no more petty GOAT debate, 50 winners+ instead (incl the 140mph and the dead droppers). I personally love it that he's not a modern giraffe. And he always values being a good, kind, decent person first, even while being the ultimate competitor.
The most impressive thing is that he's not a one trick pony like most of the very good players. Yes with time they developed more of an all around game, but this guy has everything from the start. Such a complete player at that age is very impressive. Also the fact that he is the fastest player on tour is spot on. Beeing this athletic really makes night and day difference as much as tennis is a skill based sport, on the top level this is what makes a huge difference, look on świątek- extremely fast aswell. As you said- more speed, a lot more options.
I saw Carlos play the first time about a year ago. I’ve been a tennis nut since the days of Borg and McEnroe and it was startlingly clear that this 17 year old was going to change everything. And here he is changing everything. When Novak and Rafa hang up their rackets I don’t see anyone in the current top ten being able to consistently stand in his way. It will take another Alcaraz to stop Alcaraz. Maybe someone like Rune. Or someone we don’t know about yet. But one way or another it’s going to be a crazy few years in men’s tennis.
Ognjen Milic might become his real competitor in 4-5 years. Serbian player who won euro tournament on clay without droping a set and he was the youngest at 13 (many were 14). He is left handed, we might get spicy battles in the future.
sinner also has the playful spark. Medvedev, zverev all good players, but lack spark, surely they will always be contenders.. footwork and mentality will rule future tennis.
Very interesting breakdown. The range of options that Carlos has is insane. In Madrid on clay, Rafa's backhand with tons of topspin towards the opponent's backhand were ineffective against Alcaraz Alcaraz read those shots and attacked the ball almost at half court before it got too high crossing it towards Rafa's forehand. Then he was so good at serve and volley as well as dropshots to counterattack Rafa's returns from the bleachers. Against Djokovic, by contrast, Alcaraz opted to play with more topspin and longer rallies because amazingly he outpaced Nole at the forehand exchange. I believe Alcaraz can improve in terms of his consistency and shot selection, which he has already done compared to a year ago. This will be key if he wants to succeed on Paris' clay where the ball goes much slower and with less kick than on hard court and higher altitude clay places like Madrid. He is surrounded by a great team led by former number 1 J.C. Ferrero. Carlos gets a lot of coaching by the way- I have seen this in person and it almost felt like a Davis Cup captain was talking to him! Final thought, is he prone to get injured given his game? The efficient technique should lower that risk but his aggressiveness might balance that out.
You miss one thing coach, he can hit drop shots then lob immediately, those are deadly. He has the raw power. He is creative and he has the touch. I agree he is the complete package is not afraid of the big stage.
I feel like that dropshot is worth much deeper analysis. Isn't he hitting that far better, cleaner, more well-disguised than anyone in the history of the game? Would love some insight into how he's being able to strike the ball like that... It's got barely any height, just about makes it over the net, is about a yard closer to the net on the opponent's side, and finally doesn't have any bounce. Feel like this is what was difficult for Rafa and Novak... starting their run a split second later (because of the disguise), having to run an extra yard, and then dealing with a ball that has no bounce or forward momentum on it. It's insane. I don't know if he's got superior forearm strength or advanced wrist action, or is just about to wield his racquet like a magic wand? Rick, would you be able to analyse and unpack that because neither the big 3 nor anyone in the history of the game have/had a weapon like this that is so clinical and lethal!
@John Devadas .i totally agree.I have seen a lot of players do the drop shot but when Carlos does the drop shot your jaw drops ... the audacity...he can do two drop shots in a game and win both
Federer can hit drop shots of the same caliber but Carlos clearly has better disguise. Overall, his game is more complete than Federer when Federer won his first Slam. He's also more athletic.
Agreed. There tend to be zero anticipation. He barely adjusts the grip for his drop shot. He relies less on the wrist. His elbows are very high when he attacks the ball with his forehand and backhand. This initial phase of the stroke is repeated when he goes for the drop shot, so the opponent is clueless as to whether they should move closer to the net or stay behind the baseline. Also he can brilliantly go for a long sliced forehand if he sees the opponent moving closer to the net to anticipate the dropshot.
I'm just glad we are seeing someone who can volley and makes the game worth watching again. It's a bit premature to start talking all time records .. let's at least wait until he wins one slam before we lose our minds. (Hard not to get excited though).
Glad to see Novak peaking again cause I'm looking forward to see at least a few years of competition. Biggest reason why I think Alcaraz will end up breaking the record is that idk right now who'll challenge him in a future without the big 3. Wholeheartedly agree with you on the paradigm shift we'll see in tennis because of this kid. He's got everything and is still a toddler. Imagine in a few years...my god
He is a special talent. For the ines with the eye for it it takes just a few minutes to see. I was like hold on, am i seeing this right? I havent had that with thiem, zverev, kyrgios generation, very good but no where close to the big three. How his mind and body cope with the expectation coming with his achievements is unknown. And will determine how much he is actually going to win. How much injuries is he going to get? Federer, Nadal, Djokovic make it look normal to have a 15 year career in tennis. Before them it was a rarity. He has the game already to win a slam. It is going to be interesting to see how fast he is going to win his first slam.in terms of linear development and karakter building I wouldn't be a bad thing if he first lost a final, to keep it real. Nadal got out guns blazing at 18 as well and is still going. Him being also Spanish created a perfect role modelooks for him to follow
According to Mary Carillo who is one if not the best commentators. He is the fastest player to ever play. Any that really follows tennis for many years would see this immediately
@@jackloughridge7617 my previous predictions were no more RG for Rafa after 2020 and 22 slams for Novak in 2022. Both made in 2016. Alcaraz should break the slam record in his career baring major injury ala Delpo.
Carols is very entertaining to watch with amazing power and grace. I have been watching his game for at least 2 years and he is indeed impressive in many ways. Not sure why drop shots are always mentioned in apologetic ways, it is a legal shot, very entertaining to watch when well executed and breaks the somewhat monotonic rhythm of long rallies. To beat someone like Nadal for instance, you need drop shots. Ons is another great example of deploying drop shots at crucial times.
For moments I thought you were talking of Roger Federer ;-). People have short memory but if there was one player that had a similar complete package of shots was Roger with the advantage of doing it effortless. Alcaraz plays aggressively as Roger always played, so the quantity of winners both are or were producing. I agree that Carlos can potentially the tennis player with more GS and other important titles. My only doubt is if he can sustain his power without injuries during the number of years that the Big Three were able to achieve . As Federer fan, as everybody here already understood ::-) finally I found another player that is not boring and will produce magics to this sport ... and with these qualities will bring me back again to the small screen
@@marekwichniarek268 , only at your dreams. You are one of the persons that instead watching carefully the matches of Roger you hear myths! Roger left was always very good (Nadal with high spin balls was the only one that caused trouble to him). The other myth is that he does not know to play at clay. Without Nadal he will have for now more 5 or 6 GS. He lost 4 finals at RG and one of the his best matches ever was at RG at 2006 or 2007 against Djokovic that was at his peak. He won the match. Memory is more fresh at healthy people with recent events than old ones. Speed and movement better? How can one be not quick and move well when has 7 or 8 GS at Wimbledon? I bet you much more younger than me so be humble and see the best of Roger. About Carlos I already said he is brilliant and makes me to return to screens with a lot of interest.
@@luisreis3202 Don't speak arrogant about my age when you don't know. Don't be arrogant and ignorant at the same time. I'm 41, been watching tennis since early 90's. Backhand has always been Roger's weakness and few great players could exploit it regurarly (Nadal, Djokovic - that's why both owned Roger at slams, both always had better movement than Roger, too) and few others on some occasions (Delpo, Andy, Stan). So don't talk bullshit that only Nadal troubled his backhand. Also check basic facts, also think a bit before you write anything. Novak has never been at his peak on clay in 2006 or 2007, and both those years he lost to Rafa at Roland Garros. "Memory is more fresh at healthy people with recent events than old ones." - didn't get this sentence, really, but maybe you were talking about yourself. You're quite hilarious in this thread talking nonsense, being arrogant - and preaching me about "being humble" and talking about my age at the same time. 12 years old kid may know more about tennis than you, also can talk with much more sense about tennis than you. And with a bit of class, at least, when speaking to somebody he/she doesn't know. Never said that Roger wasn't great player on clay, and great player at all. Obviously he was. Don't know why you're talking about that. I only said his backhand has never been on this teenager's level, actually Alcaraz backhand is close to Novak's level now. Also Roger's movement never been at this elite level of Nadal, Djokovic, Alcaraz (still was great, though). Roger is better at few other things than them, still Nadal and Djokovic owned him at slams for most of their careers. Mostly because of his weaker backhand and movement. And, defending Roger's backhand, you sound here like a blind, funny fanboy, the same as if any of Djokovic's fanboys would be talking of how great his overhead smash is.

The major problem for opponents is the mental aspect of Alcaraz. It's one thing to have all the shots at his disposal but it's his willingness to succeed on the biggest points that propels him. I'd love to know his tour level career break point conversion percentage because I just hardly see him mess up in big moments like those very often at all.
Spain has a long history of the Master & the Apprentice. Picasso’s father was an artist and schooled the young Picasso to paint. Much credit needs to go to Juan Carlos Ferrero. I think Juan has taught Carlitos not only technique, but also has played extensively with Carlitos. How many players get a former world #1 as their tennis coach…at age 14. If you want to get a better idea of Juan Carlos’ influence, take a look at videos of Juan Carlos playing. Carlitos is Ferrero vers 2.0
He also seems to make his opponent move all over the court... it seems he has them running side to side ... I dont know tennis like Rick.... but I thought first time watching carlos....." something is different"
Heard the same BS with Emma Raducanu and Naomi O. He will change coaches and then go in to a tailspin and then claim the pressures of the media and the grind of the tour has ruined his life.
With all due respect, to say he is going to be the undisputable GOAT is quite a stretch. Not even Fed, Nadal and Djoko with many years on tour and huge sucesses can be given that title. You can't assume other players will not eventually adapt to his game and that no new players will come to the scene with specific training to overcome him. To say Carlos is/will set unreachable standards, is a very risky assumption and contrary to the natural course of things to come. Maybe sooner than later, Alcaraz will have competition.
He is amazing but the most interesting thing is that there is someone better than him and also better than the big 3... Me. I just happen to be 44, I smoke, drink, I am obesse and I spend my life watching youtube in the sofa while eating cheetos... BUT IF I DID CHOSE to play I would have been better than anyone else. I just chose something different because its tiring to train and so on. Anyways, I should be considered the greatest. The fact that I cant be bothered should be an impediment.
The one reservation I have with Alcaraz is that sometimes he goes completely off the boil. It suggests that he can lose concentration or interest at times. Will that cause him to lose big matches against the likes of Djokovic? So far he's been able to recover from these lapses. Maybe he's so good that he just needs to flip the switch back on and he inevitably wins. Kind of like Federer in his prime - the game is almost too easy for them! Either way it's going to be exciting to watch Alcaraz's development which so far has been nothing short of meteoric.
Not sure about the drop shot getting popular outside of the highest levels....it's basically tennis' change-up so you need to have a baseline game that opponents respect enough to keep their weight somewhat back in order for it to effective... changeups don't work very well when no one respects your fastball...

IMO, he will definitely be a big force, but I don't he will achieve the level of success of the big 3 let alone exceeding them, he is hot and steaky and plays on momentum, I feel he is not as consistent as the big 3 yet, he can still easily run cold and lose out easy. I won't be surprised if he loses in the early rounds in Paris. when/If he wins a few slams fairly easily, then he can join the GOAT conversation.

I mean he's a Rafa clone. That's where he molded his game and mentality working with all Rafa's old and new team basically. He's going to dominate this game for many years because once Joker and Rafa retire and with Feds done already, no one in his generation can ever hold a candle to him. Did you see how hard he owned Zverev? lol Guy basically wanted to walk off the court after 20 minutes. Mental midget. There's very few players IF ANY under 30 other than Medvedev who have the mental game Alcaraz has.
Alcraz lost again early when it comes to slam, people have given him too much credit, and IMO it has hurt him, he got his hopes too high, grandslams are very different from other other tournaments, I totally acknowledge his talent, but he is erratic and inexperienced and still maturing.

He is unbelievablely good
At the end if 2021, I said Carlos is more complete than all the members of Big Three at the same age.
He will lose early rounds of every slam for 5 years, he is short, so he can’t compete with big men on other surfaces, he will be a Rublev overall.
Based on your tennis knowledge you must be a pickleball fanatic..
Totally agree. Another thing I really love about him is his honesty on the court. What a role model! What work ethic. Crazy about him.
I agree coach. Mental strength, exceptional movement, ability & confidence to hit short anytime, willingness to move into the forecourt. This will transform the game much like FedDalKovic did over the past 2 decades.
He became my favorite player last summer. I love this guy!
Guys lets calm down here. I love alcaraz and think he will be the best player of the next generation, however, its almost disrespectful in my opinion to think that he’ll easily achieve what the big 3 did. Those guys are aliens and it takes much more than talent to do what they have done.
Agreed. These kunts are mocking big 3 achievements
I said over a year ago he would be #1 within a few years and he will likely beat my prediction. However, you are 100% correct everyone needs to calm down. His potential is extraordinary, but lets see where he is in a few years before we even start to talk about the Big 3 and he is going to be the GOAT.
Same was said about Sampras 14 slams 20 years ago. ;)
@@radieschen79 that's right and time goes on and then there was federer. Then nadal then djokovic. Now it's his turn. That's the way of the world
Well said, Rick, and nice finish.
Exactly right. I'm sick of the GOAT debates
That's right, technique but more importantly confidence and winning attitude in the key moments
Congrats! You were totally right with your prediction. Yesterday he won open USA, becoming the youngest number 1 ranked in history.
That's very true, even Federer needed much longer to become such a complete player. Kind of scary to think about it.
I called it an year ago when i saw him play madrid against rafa... Trail blazer carlitos 💥💥💥💥

I see the same thing a once in a generation talent
Alcarez absolutely destroyed Zverev today
He made Zverev look like a juvenile
predicted his top 10 rank almost a year ago!
I really want to see him play Medvedev
Ognjen Milic might become his real competitor in 4-5 years. Serbian player who won euro tournament on clay without droping a set and he was the youngest at 13 (many were 14). He is left handed, we might get spicy battles in the future.
sinner also has the playful spark. Medvedev, zverev all good players, but lack spark, surely they will always be contenders.. footwork and mentality will rule future tennis.
@@mericusta1988 Sinner has wta mental part. He will never be a champ like Alcaraz
I think Justin Bieber is there at ricks academy
You miss one thing coach, he can hit drop shots then lob immediately, those are deadly. He has the raw power. He is creative and he has the touch. I agree he is the complete package is not afraid of the big stage.

Nice analysis!❤
@@josepmarianadal3806 he doesn't change grip for the dropshot???
His Dropshot is Golden 👍🏆👍✌️🤏🤏, so much disguise and touch
I'm just glad we are seeing someone who can volley and makes the game worth watching again. It's a bit premature to start talking all time records .. let's at least wait until he wins one slam before we lose our minds. (Hard not to get excited though).
The key to good drop shots is footwork and Soft hands
Glad to see Novak peaking again cause I'm looking forward to see at least a few years of competition.
Biggest reason why I think Alcaraz will end up breaking the record is that idk right now who'll challenge him in a future without the big 3.
Wholeheartedly agree with you on the paradigm shift we'll see in tennis because of this kid.
He's got everything and is still a toddler. Imagine in a few years...my god
I believe this. Federer changed the game, but Alcaraz even more. The game of Federer back then won't be able to deal with this.
I see his drop shots like curry transformed the nba with 3 pointers, now you will see every club player going for 20 drops a match 😉
You are a master Rick!
21 majors in 10 years is what Alcatraz can do. Hope he can stay healthy to prove what we are all seeing.
Come on man, i love alcaraz but that’s ridiculous
Roger's backhand was never even close to this teenager's bh. And Alcaraz's speed and movement are better now than Roger's at his peak.

Jeff probst?
..then Rick Macci 😆😂🤣
I think the concentration issue is because he’s still very young and can get excited. He’s getting better at consistently handling pressure tho
Not sure about the drop shot getting popular outside of the highest levels....it's basically tennis' change-up so you need to have a baseline game that opponents respect enough to keep their weight somewhat back in order for it to effective... changeups don't work very well when no one respects your fastball...
The big3 led to him, and he will end tennis
