this patreon thing is a good investment. i was having a shitty fucking god damn piece of shit of a day and now i have something to watch while i smoke a doobie and wait for my cheese+potato pizza.
Have you seen Jawbreaker, which is a late 90s rip-off of Heathers with Rose McGowan and Judy Greer? The ick factor is very high, but it does have a makeover.
Τhis film,in my opinion, is a clear satire which focuses on the false and hypocritical element that defines human relationships, given with caustic humor, nice jokes-lines, excellent interpretations -acting by Winona Ryder and Christian Slater along with the rest of the cast. The movie leaves hints for modern societies and how they actually work, hints that the viewer must discover, but without waving its finger and becoming didactic. It is well-directed by Michael Lehmann with nice photography, good flow and script twists and surprises. One of my favourites.Thank you both ,Avaryl and Andrew ,for this great and fun review.I really enjoyed it.
I was about to write a new comment about Jawbreaker, then looked down to make sure it wasn't already on here. Rose McGowan's character is totally like the head Heather. "I killed Liz. I killed the teen dream. Deal with it."
I love that this movie was so dark, mostly because I don't think this type of movie would be made today. It was very irreverent, while also having an important message tied up in the end? It's fantastic! and iconic. I love it
guys! a queen does say "I'm a veronica". either on all stars 1 or on drag u, Manila says something like "I wish you were a heather" and Raven says i'm a veronica" x
I think the great thing about Heathers is that everyone at least sees similarities between themselves and one other character, if not more. That is what keeps it relevant.
I feel like you kinda missed the point of Martha's attempted suicide. She wasn't 'following the fad', she was genuinely depressed because she was bullied and treated like shit by everyone. And with the amount of love and attention the dead kids got, she possibly hoped that maybe there'd be some consideration for her after she died.
I would also love a jawbreaker review! It's so much more campy than heathers! Also now that It's closer to Halloween can we get a hocus pocus retro review? I know in your last Halloween episode, you briefly mentioned how much you love it, but I would love for you to get into everything you love about it (which is probably everything)! Or teen witch!
weirdly enough, Andrew's point about how he'd rather Veronica be shocked by the 'ich luge' bullets while J.D kills both of the jocks is one of the changes the musical also made.
I watched this for the first time last night and it was much darker than I expected. Not necessarily a bad thing, I just wasn't prepared for so much murder and death and all that
I love that she has the casual conversation while charred and bleeding with Martha, who has broken her neck. Imagine if all the emotional trauma of High School was visible as injuries. Your parents would think you were getting nearly killed every day.
Being John Malkovich, Taxi Driver, American Psycho, Eraser Head, Behind the Candelabra, Dangerous Liaisons, Falling Down, Kill Bills... Just to name a few of disturbing movies that are good on all levels...
The wearing an earring on the ''wrong ear'' means you're gay was so very real in the 90's. I remember my brothers being so scared of getting the wrong ear pierced and going to school. Talk about social conditioning, yikes.
Jawbreaker... I would say a jawbreaker is closer to Heathers the ploy of heathers then mean girls. 😊 PS jawbreaker would be a good one to review if y'all haven't. So much ridiculousness!
this is the clip, Raven says 'should I call you Heather?' and Manila says 'you wish you were a heather', then Raven replies 'actually I don't, I'm a Veronica' - ruclips.net/video/NW3X4Vecz64/видео.html
can we please get a retro review of Drop Dead Gorgeous? Kristie Alley, Kristin Dunst, Alison Janney, Brittany Murphy, mixed with a midwest beauty pageant/ murder mystery?!?!?! Sounds perfect for this channel!!!!
So, when I watched this as a teenager I interpreted JD's mother's death as suicide. Now that I re-watch it and knowing how absurdly dark it is in all other ways and knowing that JD and his dad are sociopaths, I'm taking it that she was tied up in the building and was murdered. It's amazing how we have different interpretations as we get older and our lens that we view life through is more developed. I remember thinking Christian Slater was so very sexy...I was all of 15...maybe. I still can't believe my parents let me watch it...in fact, my entire family watched it together and no one turned it off, lol! Awkward. Thank you for this review. I love this movie. Andrew is so right, it's VERY dark and sometimes, given the world we live in, it's WAY too much. However, if you just go into it with satire on your mind, it's fantastic.
Also, as a creepy aside, the actress that played Heather Chandler who gave us the, "did you have a brain tumor for breakfast", line died of a brain tumor not more than 10 years after this movie came out.
36:22 tbh, those shadows just reminded me of the silhouettes left by people who were vaporized in the atomic bombings of hiroshima/nagasaki. like i know that wasn't the intent, but having a bomb right there made my brain make the connection.
Adding to Avaryl's fun fact: their third cd, The Veronicas, include the song "did you miss me" the original version of that song was supposed to be on their third cd that was scrapped called "life on Mars" it leaked and the intro had The Heathers conversation between Veronica and JD "are you a Heather?" "No, I'm a Veronica"
Um so you guys 1000% need to watch Heathers: The Musical. It sounds like a terrible idea but is honestly one of if not the best movie-to-musical adaptations in recent years. The musical is what introduced my to the film itself. Definitely check it out !!
That clip you play regarding the soundtrack reminds me of "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter Is Dead"... One of the office scenes? (Just looked it up, same composer - David Newman). But I highly suggest a retro review.
Loved the retro review guys! Just a quick question, a while ago you said you were going to do a review of Dante's cone. Do you still plan on doing that? I just wondered, anyway have a fabulous day/night and thanks for hilarious reviews!😁
MovieBitches thanks for the reply guys! No don't worry I completely understand, just wondered if it was a review you still planned on going ahead with😊
85% of the time I'm feeling the same way about a movie as Andrew. So when they do movies I haven't seen I will base my willingness to see it on Andrew's review

I will quote Heathers until I can no longer speak. It's so very.
Love dark comedy but this was beyond stupid and lacked ANY comedy. Mean Girls however was hilarious w amy poehler

I literally just wrote that they need to RUclips it. I am obsessed.
“Sometimes I feel like a pop up video” has got to be the most accurate avaryl line of all time
Yes. The Craft. All of this.
Kira Ragged if we are going down the Craft road... can we also make a stop for Practical Magic???
The sappy hallmark cousin
And jawbreaker.
One question this movie leaves unanswered: How did Christian Slater's eyebrows get so pointy?
He tweezes what he pleases.
@@ToliBera haha
Tweezers honey, the tweeeeze! 😂
I've just realised Veronica's mother is Shannen Doherty's Grams in Charmed.
Who the fuck is Heather?
That's the real question. Did anyone ever answer Henny?
who is this Heathers
I FUCKING GASPED WHEN I GOT THE NOTIFICATION
Me too, I literally stopped what I was doing and spent that 41ish minutes with them.

Please review The Craft I'll watch you guys with a choker and black lipstick to complete the 90's witch fantasy.
Absoloutely.

Jawbreaker is great for the Rose McGowan factor, but yea it WAY darker than Heathers.
My mind has mashed Heathers and Jawbreaker together. It is time for a rewatch of both.
You guys should let us know which movie your next retro review will be so we can try to watch it in advance if we haven't already!
Did you notice the “punctuation marks” knobs on the dresser in her bedroom? Awesome.
I watched Heathers yesterday for the first time because of your Season 3 reviews - my body clearly knew this was coming!
omg same
me too!
Wow how old are you?
The clothes in this movie were spot on for the time. I had outfits like every single one of Veronica’s.
You might like Heathers: The Musical. There's a song called I Love My Dead Gay Son where Kurt and Ram's dad hook up.
Me rewatching this 3 years later: oh my god this is where I got “I’m not playing these reindeer games” from!!
“Dear Diary... My teen angst bullshit has a body count.” I adore Veronica’s diary entries.
Drop Dead Gorgeous captured the same vibe for me.
Cullen P omgawwwd!!! That movie is iconic!! A SWAN ATE MY BABY!!! I let a friend borrow that one and A Mighty Wind... never got them back!!
I love that movie!
Ok I just now noticed the Bette Davis and Joan Crawford quotes in the description and I'm living
So NEXT Retro review CLUELESS??
Please :(
Zander Kent yes pls my favourite film
The movie with my first ever crush Paul Rudd before little Huschel knew what a crush was? Yes, please.
OMG PLEASE YES
I really like this movie, but the musical is so good too! It's really worth seeing and fixes some problems with the movie.
The musical butchers the musical more than fixing stuff
