I feel so bad for the sea captain, but you gotta commend his willpower to hold out inside the Hydra and nearly drag himself out of the underworld. Until Kratos came along.
Can you imagine playing God of war 6 and a reincarnation of the dude is there "O- oh god! These visions! I-... I know of you!" "Stay back!" All while Kratos needs someone to hold a door open for him
Mimir: Brother, you've told me before about all the mortals you've killed when in the gods' service. What is it about this Boat Captain...? Kratos: It would have cost me nothing to show him mercy. His life was in my hands. To be so casually cruel, I... This man did nothing to me. And I treated his life as nothing. He was not a god who'd manipulated me, nor bound me in service. I...can not hide behind my thirst for revenge. He was just a man afraid for his life; attacked and swallowed by a monster he had no hope of defeating. But the hydra was just an animal. I showed him what a true monster looked like.
Which is all just a blatant retcon... pretty certain in the original story the captain was a coward who abandoned his men, hence why Kratos held him in such contempt. Still, guess such a thing is too 'edgy' for... **ahem** "modern audiences".
@@PeteTheGrouch Rewatching it now and no. _Everyone_ ‘cept Kratos was shitting their pants and were clearly not built for that. Also, you could hardly call the Captain dropping to his knees in the face of what was supposedly certain death to them as “abandoning” his men (not that he even could on a ship in the middle of the ocean). And to say Kratos held contempt to that man implies he ever cared at all, which we all know was a hard _no._
@@PeteTheGrouch Now it seems you’re just thinking the worst of the man. If he really was such a coward, _he would be the one behind those doors_ and keep everyone else out. No, instead, as useless as it ultimately was, he decided to gather all the non-workers on his ship to hide there instead, locking the door thinking that would prevent any threat to come in. Didn’t work, obviously. Meanwhile, he _puts himself at chomping distance_ and try to work with his crew to get the Hydra off, without any weapon! I mean, it was kinda stupid, but at least he didn’t immediately pussy out until then.

I love how throughout the trilogy and the other games in the classic era, Kratos gradually learned his callousness and cruelty had major effects to those around him, especially when it was hammered to him in the God Of War III. Edit: I find it funny that the Boat/Ship Captain sounds like Ares, even though they were respectively voiced by Keith Ferguson and Steve Blum.

Funny how out of all the people Kratos has killed the Sea Captain is one of the few people he regrets killing the most
I mean he killed the guy, killed/damned him in hell, then possibly destroyed his revenant soul... Yeah regret

Too bad that guy didn't make to latest games, like recantation of something or hallucination in Valhalla. This would've be a top comedy.

Man Kratos could so easily have gotten the key and also helped the captain up it would have been like 0% more effort
Captain thanked gods for sending help, not Kratos. That's why he killed him in the first instance.
that barbarian king segment is upsetting because of the QTE's being failed
Kratos really is a cold blooded murder. He is right to suffer but also not to completely away from redemption.

Kratos hates the gods due to Aries. So when the captain thanked them instead of Kratos who did the work without their boons he got mad
