I was traveling through Utah and had stopped at a restaurant , after my wife and I had ordered we sat down and to our amazement a line of men, approx. 100, all Hispanic/Mexican decent had entered the restaurant. Their ages were from approximately 18 to 45. We then realized these are Firefighters, here to fight fires, God Bless them all for what they do .

@@YiYi-e3y The suspect is in custody. I don't recall anyone identified as responsible for Camp Fire. There were 2 individuals convicted, for life, federal arson charges for Sierra and Yosemite National Park Fires. One was a Forest Service Employee.

In McArther California 25 years ago, we had a huge wildfire and the prisoners were used to fight the fire. Base camp was in McArthur and they had air-conditioning. The Mayor wrote a horrible piece on how prisoners didn't deserve the air conditioning!! A prisoner was in line at the Rays Food Place and he went to pay for his groceries, but his wallet and credit cards in his back pocket were melted together. The people in the store all got together and paid his bill and the Mayor was ousted for her horrible behavior. These firefighters deserve more than a tent in the heat. THANK YOU PRISON FIREFIGHTERS AND FIREFIGHTERS. $1 an hour on an active fire? Who's getting the rest of tht money?
Exactly. That's who's out there on these lines. One fire captain to every 1200 prisoners. Women and men. They'll be out there in tents for days. The stories my friend told me about not just the fires but having to do body recovery after mud slides and flooding is terrifying

Excellent coverage, but please don’t ever work underneath a large air tanker dropping retardant. It’s not worth getting injured or killed by the force of the retardant which can take down trees and snap branches. It is a highly orchestrated event between air resources and firefighters on the ground to clear those areas before a drop is made.

yes, it is because of several reasons first of all California has a lot of forest that is not maintained, making the vegetation very very dry. And yes, there is a lot of vegetation people from the cities have made homes away from the city and into the areas that catch fire. Yes I would love to live in one of the forest too, but it is really environmentally wrong.. not to mentioned expensive people do not realize that the spread of the public into these areas from the city cause a lot of our wildfires and other problems. It is too bad California and other states were never meant to have people in these big cities, where people will do anything to move out, like paradise many of the homes are sitting in environments where there is one way in and one way out, usually one of the highways. Seeing people run for their lives in Paradise was scary and heartbreaking. Prayers to the people directly affected by this fire.

I heard hippy tree hugger types here in Cali passed something that does not allow the fire departments to keep areas maintained like dead trees low branches. So that they don’t disturb the natural habitat. Since then they have had a harder time fighting all the fires. Plus I’m sure not enough money as usual for a lot of different things to help different departments.

A good friend of ours lost everything - except her three dogs (miraculously) - in Paradise a few years back. She moved to the Seattle area. I know these are beautiful areas but why would someone just stay in this kind of an area (as this one lady did) when these fires are getting more and more common?

Several years ago here in california, we used to have a large budget dedicated solely to the pruning and maintenance of our forests and desert regions. However, somewhere along the way over the last couple of decades the powers that be eliminated that budget. Currently, there are over a half a million fallen trees littering our forests and years of dried brush has been left to consume our deserts. Logically, if these hazards were removed and not allowed to accumulate wildfires would be greatly reduced. After all, if they aren't there, they cannot burn. Simply put, this is a Land Management issue.
Also, there is an unofficial intention to deter individuals from building homes throughout these areas and to push them out. Same with flooding in South Central Valley areas. It's unsustainable to develop these areas, thus the hardening of home insurance in CA.
Same here in Maui. The deforestation for furniture, ranching , pineapple and sugar cane has led to unmanaged lands where they used to be an intact dry land forest and streams flowing. ❤

Yeah all that budget money went to homeless projects. Then all those government workers become project managers working for the nonprofits that manage all those funds. It's hilarious they get to claim they work for a nonprofit its like an umbrella that makes them seem innocent but they're paying all themselves huge inflated wages and benefits using donations and government grants. Such a disgusting scam and completely corrupt to the core. Doesn't even help most of the homeless besides a handful that get to do photo opportunities so they can keep the money train going.

Currently, California is running a $74 billion yearly budget deficit that is expected to increase to over $100 billion in the next fiscal year. We have had two straight years of incredibly rare amounts of rain (lots of it). There is so much dead plant growth out there now that when the Santa Ana winds start, this whole state is in trouble. The insurance companies already know it. This is going to be a crazy year.
