What makes Ricardo the best character in the entire manga to me is the fact he never underestimates his opponents no matter how weak they may look like.
It’s funny cause Takamura even admitted that Ricardo was OUT of this world, would you think he would make Takamura sweat if he was in the heavier weight class?
Takamura has repeatedly been extremely close to losing to many opponents, hawk obviously because of his inexperience, eagle would have defeated him if not for the fact he had too much of a desire to show he can win "fairly" Bison was making Kamogawa consider throwing in the towel etc, so yeah Ricardo if he was a heavier weight class would probably win honestly

I have fought in amateurs before and there are few things worse than having a good camp, being well trained, only to realize that your opponent is a lot better than you. One of the better (or worse) examples was Nicolas Walters against Vasily Lomachenko, where Lomachenko put on a master class. It did happen to Malcom Gedo too, which was why he went to fixing fights.
Well said. Talent falls against hard work, but if the talented guy works even harder then it's pretty much over lol. Lomachenko is a genius among geniuses. Bro was sharpened from the age of 4 and add to that his insane talent. It's so sad he started his pro career too late.

Could someone explain the point someone in the show/manga made about Mexican boxers having jabs that hit beyond their reach? Is it like their equivalent to the "Fighting Spirit" Japanese boxers have?
It’s just the way they execute the jab. It extends further before snapping back. Also the positioning of the fist is a little different. They put their shoulder into the jab.
