With the emphasis on Mashiba's growth and all the emotional scenes, I think there were enough red flags to see his defeat coming, I was actually surprised he "won" in the previous chapter until this one came out. I feel bad for him, but he's clearly set up as a stepping stone for Ippo's comeback, although that seems to be way down the line still, for now we have another major fight upcoming, Sendo vs Ricardo! Let's see how many years it'll take.

Damn... Morikawa gave us major blue balls with the end of this fight. But this just goes to prove one thing for the lore: Only takamura can be a world champion in Japan. Sorry, sendo, miyata, and ippo, but none of you will ever be world champions.

There is only one thing that can make Ippo get back in the ring. The same reason he had made the stipulations for retirement. Kumi Mashiba. Ippo's worry of getting punch drunk only started appearing when Kumi made comments of how he might already have it after the Alfredo fight. Takamura even comments on it in a way that makes it sound like all of Ippo's black out moments in his matches leading up to his retirement were that Ippo let himself lose because Kumi wanted him to lose. Not to mention the coaches and other doctors telling him, nothing is actually wrong with physically. Its similar to the early arcs where Ippo almost gave uo Boxing to keep his mom's fishing business afloat. Except unlike the Mom who encouraged it even when he was at his physical worst, Kumi is actively trying to make Ippo give up boxing in all facets.

Takamura punched out a few little kids for wanting his autograph. He repeated Bryan Hawk's insane procreation speech after defeating him, owning it, and he called Ippo, Kimura, and Aoki pussies for running from a bear. But we love him still.

Its funny bc im a skinny guy but when u look at my fists, big ass squares😂 I def got the KO fists and trust me they are 100x better than having the “sharp” hands😂 my knuckles are huge too from years of boxing/hand training in my teens and naturally just had bigger hands which are essential for getting knockouts in fights more easily, honeslty I believe before I got a better understanding for how to throw very hard punches I had the “sharp” hands as well but after years of training and focusing on how to throw hard punches, and throwing them a certain way my hands became bigger and flatter over time and my punching power is insane, and now I got literal blocks for fists, which again are 100x better for fights bc having big fists like this and having power go hand and hand, and don’t try to argue saying sharp hands are better bc that sharp stuff doesn’t rly work irl when I hit u with this bomb😂 trust me I’ve been in many fights and power is always number 1 if you know how to use it but it’s not everything you also have to have a understanding of when and where to throw and have basic fighting skills

Takamura showed them against hawk he can move just as fast if not faster than a featherweight at is weight but they always think they are faster. Sendo is strong and was getting thrown back with gloves that gave a huge handicap.

My biggest fear is that Morikawa dies before he finishes Hajime no Ippo. He is the same age as Miura, and only 10 years younger than Toriyama, and he has been having health struggles. At the pace we are going, we still need to deal with the aftermath of Mashiba's fight, Sendo vs. Martinez, Ippo's comeback, there was a storyline with Itagaki but that might be on hold, Takamura still has several fights ahead of himself, Ippo vs. Miyata, depending on the match's outcome Ippo vs Martinez/Sendo and so on. He either needs to really focus and get through those or it'll be another 10+ years at the current pace.

As a huge Ippo fanboy this chapter makes me respect the series even more.
