First of the videos I see here with such profanity... Here's a friendly explanation for improving knowledge. Top handle saws are actually made for arborists. Arborists do different jobs - some of them are pruning trees, some are dismantling (tree removals). These types of tasks require different types of tools. A small 25cc class chainsaw (or battery equivalent like DCS-2500T) is made for pruning tasks. Those usually have less power to have the least possible weight. A big 35cc class chainsaw (or battery equivalent like MSA 220T or T540iXP) are made for dismantling. Those are most powerful, however it comes at the expense of big weight. Most climbers will reject the EGO chainsaw purely because of the uncomfortable wire and backpack harness (as they usually already wear quite a lot of belts). Please keep you channel at the usually nice review level. I am always entertained to watch the videos you make.
@@MachineryNation I did not intend neither to offend or got offended, sorry if it sounded that way. I just meant that I’m used to see your reviews (which I do like) a bit more reasonable. Also thank you for taking time to reply!
The Echo would be better matched with a 1/4 set up - most convenient saw to use up a tree on the market right now IMO - the gear clip system is game changing.
Thanks James and Josh. Great job. I want to get both of them for Christmas. Well maybe before then. The echo being light is probably great for pruning woody shrubs and hedges, I have the 18v Makita top handle and that is great for small stuff and very light. You can get a harness to wear the battery on your back for the ego top handle so you don't have to wear it on your waste I believe. I have one so you can put bigger batteries on and use any of their tools with that. 👍
Another nice comparison. I’ve never, officially, used a saw up a tree. The compactness of those battery saws must make life a bit easier for the climbers.
Another awesome video guys. Ego FTW. The Ego top handle is a really undertalked about machine I think. It's got tonnes of power. It's judt a shame that it's not a battery on board machine. If it was it would completely change the feel of it and look and I really like it it how it is. Send it against the Husky and stuhl I think it will come out on top too!
put the ego battery in a backpack, it is better for your balance neither you feel the weight. Also, in this way the cable pass along your right arm and does not annoys
@@BottleBrookGardens it should be (at my knowledge). However, I suggest my solution: for $20 buy a 6 liters backpack (for cycling) and put there the battery (a 4 or 5 Ah).
This is an apples to oranges comparison. The difference between the 2Ah battery and the 4Ah battery is not only runtime, but maximum current delivered as well. And current means torque for an electric motor. The playing field here favors the EGO with this battery.
The only difference is is the echo designed to only accept the 2ah battery where the ego will accept any of their battery's. With that design inwould think that the echo would be designed for max performance with that battery in mind
Nice boys, 2Amp for cutting isn't man enough (clearly!) Think if I was plugging into a separate power pack on ones hip I'd stick with a good ole 2 stroke.
My question is, what is the maximum length of the chain guide that can be placed on the EGO, and how high can you raise your hand? Let's say if you carve a totem, sometimes you have to stretch.
Personal i don't think echo have got the battery equipment right compared to other companies the petrol kit is spot on I absolutely love echo cs2511 the best top handle out I think and I will only use echo blowers brilliant bits of kit pb251 👌 I have never used ego equipment I don't like the look of that top handle with the battery lead and having to have the battery on your harness looks like pain more weight when we are climbing Also does that lead work a shock load lanyard or do you have to use lanyard and battery lead ?
Thank you for your feedback Jacob. I agree their petrol stuff is the nuts! Yes the battery lead also works as a landyard you just need to clip it to your harness and saw 👍🏼
Free surgeons will lower the saw down on a rope for the groundie to replace the battery and top up the chain oil. I am not sure how this works with the ego?
Nice video gents. For comparrison to the other video (with the stihl, husky and makita), was the oak log the same log or from the same batch (similar diameter etc.)? Thanks
Nice review guys, they look like toys but work pretty well. By the way James, Josh is probably used to having the load in the BACK of his pants. 🤣 Josh you were close at 6:33 but not quite. 👍🤣
Tree surgeon here, not impressed with the reviewing and are making the echo to be crap, yet the that stock echo 3/8's/1.3 chain is like crap. It's better suited with 1/4" panther chain/bar. and will pull a 12" through oak a lot better and won't stall. The saw is a joy to use for pruning while in the tree balance/weight is brilliant. I find it last quite long too per bat, but at the end of day you're comparing it to a much bigger saw, that is a lot heavier and should be put up against the bigger top handles. If you compare the echo to the stihl 161 or the smaller makita one. I think the echo is better than both of those🖕
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼 I agree on the chain, but in the reviews we always use stock chains and bars as this is what comes with them when you buy them.
Great video James and Josh. Loved the musical intermission. In all seriousness that ego is a monster, would love to see it go toe to toe with the STIHL. What about making a video with the Milwaukee top handle when you have a chance?
Hard to top the husky t540ixp for cutting performance, it’s lighter than the stihl 220t yet still cuts faster. I think that the echo 2500t is more comparable to the msa161t or t536lixp as a pruning saw. I can’t see myself purchasing the echo due to the battery design alone. I’d rather have the extra weight in the saw and not have to use the umbilical
actually a tree climbing saw has always the lanyard attached, so the umbilical cord from the battery could be not so bad, maybe just paired and taped to the lanyard, the weigh in the saw is more interesting to fit a bigger engine..

Awesome video! Loved every second.....😎
Thank you Steve, appreciate it 👍🏼

...also curious is that lanyard rated? I'm assuming it catches with the fabric way before the electrical cabling becomes an issue?
Na not for me, Echo looks like a toy, the EGO just don't like the idea of the cable, you did a really good demonstration and review on them 👍
Maybe check out the Stihl or Husqvarna saws.
Thanks for the feedback Nev 🤩
We checked these out in a previous video 👍🏼

Yes you can get a rear harness. I’m not sure how the lanyard would clip in though! Thank you so much for watching 👍🏼
Finally! A video with the Ego 👍🏻
I know right, taken long enough haha
That Ego is serious business!!!

Ego is better also because the battery is not on board! Less weight on your arm.
Thanks Mike! Yes we will send it against the Husq and Stihl and the Milwaukee once we get our hands on it again 👍🏼
Its always fun to watch your vids. The Echo walked it.
put the ego battery in a backpack, it is better for your balance neither you feel the weight. Also, in this way the cable pass along your right arm and does not annoys
Thank you 👍🏼 that would make a lot of sense! Would the landyard still work the same?
Yea I’d be interested to know if the back pack adaptor is the same connector and would work
@@BottleBrookGardens it should be (at my knowledge). However, I suggest my solution: for $20 buy a 6 liters backpack (for cycling) and put there the battery (a 4 or 5 Ah).
Great video lads that ego has serious power for a battery chainsaw very impressive
We are still amazed!
when will you post the video part 3? Ego vs Husqvarna vs STIHL?
In the future haha, no date as yet 👍🏼

In all honesty, I don’t think even a 6ah would make any difference 👍🏼
Thank You Gentlemen ! For The Great Content 👍And Making Me Laugh 😂
I’m glad we made someone laugh, it makes it all the worth while 🤩🤩
My question is, what is the maximum length of the chain guide that can be placed on the EGO, and how high can you raise your hand? Let's say if you carve a totem, sometimes you have to stretch.
Loved this one looking for a new chainsaw so this was super insightful ❤
Cheers Darl! Ping me a TT message and I will sort you out 👍🏼 finished lambing yet?

You can in clip the battery and still lower down as normal 👍🏼
Nice One James & Josh entertaining review 🤣🤣 Thanks again
Thank you Darran 👍🏼
Great video as always.... I need some new hardwood placemats!
Haha thank you Mark! We have plenty lol

Can you please test the ego against the husqvarna 540i and stihl’s new top handle
We will indeed, in a future video 🤩
Awesome but now there’s a milwaukee to throw in to you list
I think keeping hold of the blade and chain whilst inserting the battery may end being a bad idea.
Next weeks vid will be a cordless garden vac, that can suck up finger ends..!
Fair point! Well I take it back, if the fingers were missing he would not be able to point 😂
I cringed hard😅
Bar and chain.
@@TheToolnut your right. Bar and chain. And I work with these most days. How embarrassing.
Good show
Give I that Ego and I’ll give it a go 😉
You can borrow it 😜
Ego are the best 😊
As an autistic, I approve of the autism jokes, and I am glad you said autistic instead of "with autism"...
Both are quiet impressiv but when it comes to battery saws, I take Husqvarna all time 👍🏻
Thanks Der 👍🏼
Добрый ! Толщина цепи какая ?)
We mention at the beginning when the saws are spinning around 👍🏼
Ego is twice the cost of the Echo.
You did not add the weight of the ego with all the trash the cord and battery . Same here I don’t like the setup of the EGO AT ALL THUMBS DOWN 👎
because those parts are not on your arm. Trust me, having the battery on your back is a far better solution than on board.
