- Lauterbrunnen is situated in one of the most impressive trough valleys in the Alps, between gigantic rock faces and mountain peaks. With its 72 thundering waterfalls, secluded valleys, colourful alpine meadows and lonely mountain inns, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the biggest nature conservation areas in Switzerland.
The very name ‘Lauter Brunnen’ (‘many fountains’) suggests the magnificence of this landscape. There are 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the most famous being the Staubbach Falls. Plunging almost 300 metres from an overhanging rock face, they are one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe. In 1779, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe visited the valley, and was inspired by the roaring waters to write his well-known poem ‘Spirit song over the waters’
Another deafening natural phenomenon are the Trümmelbach Falls in the ‘Black Monk’ mountain, hidden behind mighty rock faces. Up to 20,000 litres of water per second cascade over the ten glacier falls from a total height of about 200 metres. This spectacle can only be reached in summer by tunnel lift.
Winter
The expansive ski regions of Wengen-Kleine Scheidegg and Mürren-Schilthorn are quickly reached by mountain railway. There are 45 transport facilities altogether in the Jungfrau region as well as 213 km of piste, fun parks, 100 km of winter hiking trails and 50 km of toboggan run. The Lauterbrunnen Valley also boasts plenty of cross-country ski trails.
Summer
The valley town of Lauterbrunnen (795 m) is the starting point for some of the best known excursion destinations in the Jungfrau region. A rack railway links Lauterbrunnen with the sunny terrace of Wengen on the eastern flank of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the Kleinen Scheidegg, the station where you change trains for the onward journey to the Jungfraujoch.
On the opposite side of the valley is the holiday resort of Mürren, accessible from Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg. The cableway from Stechelberg continues to the peak of the Schilthorn at 2971 m, famous for being the setting where the 007 classic, ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ was filmed.
A few kilometres further up the valley from Lauterbrunnen, accessible along a narrow mountain road, is the peaceful little mountain village of Isenfluh, perched on a steep rock terrace at 1024 m, and starting point for walks in the romantic Saustal and further to Mürren and the Lobhorn mountains.

This video is making me cry. I'm yearning to visit Switzerland but I don't think I will ever have that opportunity due to my current situation. It's always been my #1 tour destination. I love you Switzerland and to those people who were given the opportunity to visit that wonderful country, consider yourself very lucky.

I was in Lauterbrunnen 49 years ago. I see it’s grown a bit, but of course the waterfalls mountains are still the same, stunningly beautiful. Still one of my favorite travel memories.
I think there are a few extra buildings! but the scenery is wonderful!

I’m a native of a fantastic ski resort in the heart of the alps on the French speaking part of Switzerland and love living there. I was always very attracted by the US, in particular by Southern California where I managed to manage to move in 1985 when I was 21 y\o. I lived 5 years in LA, met my wife to be and decided to move back to my own town to raise our family, feeling it would be wiser. This year we celebrated the 32 years anniversary of marriage, 35 years of living together and there are no chance that my California wife would agree to move back to California, she loves it here and is so integrated and is so appreciated by the locals. As a matter of act, we have a few Americans living in my town and they all love it according to them. If you plan to visit Europe, you absolutely have make a journey in Switzerland out of your trip

Even the high grass that grows between the asphalt is beautiful. The streets are cleaner than my conscience, there is not even gum on the floor and ... the waterfalls with the mountains in the background. There are no words.

Today, I learned that I get far more enjoyment out of watching this than watching fictional stories about places that don't exist and people hurting each other.
That's insane how in ever direction you see the monolith, steep, stone walls. It looks very beautiful and majestic.

40 years ago, I lived in Germany and used to take drive down to Interlaken and other cities/towns in Switzerland. Never saw Lauterbrunnen though. I miss those care-free days and I certainly miss Switzerland.

SO beautiful.saw this when I was little girl.came from large family.my dad was a doctor in ww2.rebuilding after in the 50s.still remember the bells being rung every Sunday.the flowers.beautiful chalets.switzerland played a great deal at that time.there were interested villages to look like that.a village when in fact there was hangers and landing run ways.alot of people climbed the mts.to make it to safety.Such a beautiful land with friendly Harty people.thank you for your video.God keep you safe.happy traveling.

Been there many times and it is lovely. Very little there unless you go on mountain train trips, but so very peaceful and beautiful. I usually stay at the camping place in a small wooden cabin. Stunning place.

I was there with my husband for our honey moon just 3 weeks ago. It was literally like living in a postcard. We were in Hotel Jungfrau at 4:16 of this video…. With balcony with the view of mountains and waterfalls. Lovely video. Made me feel like i was back listening to the waterfalls, rivers, helicopters, cowbells ahhhh it was such an amazing time

It's more than 60 years ago since I was there. I seem to remember that the funicular ran up the side of the hotel where we stayed

This was the start. in the 1970ies it was beautiful, today 10thausands of Instagram a..holes swarming the town every day during spring to fall.
@@steffenrosmus9177 It's a hard balance, if there would not be any tourists in this remote village it would not be as well maintained, clean and looked after. But on the flip side too many tourists take away from the calm and genuine experience.
