Apple is most definitely aiming for Adobe, I hope Apple puts enough dent in the Adobe sales to make Adobe take notice and stop their subscription fees.
It’s hilarious to see a RUclips pro with 1.5 million subs totally flub the audio sync! Just goes to show, even the big dogs can trip over their own paws! 😂
Agree. I had a lot of work and money tied up in Aperture which was marketed as professional software. And it cost more money and work when they dropped it. I liked it and was glad to pay for it. But the total abandonment made me furious. But I also hate Adobe and have not used any of their products in years and have no plans to return to them. I'm hoping that Apple is simply going to use Pixelmator to enhance Apple Photos and continue to include it for free. That would be awesome since it would be, well, free, AND it would hurt Adobe. But, if Apple intends to make a high end/ pro editing suite and charge for it, no go. I'm not going to be burned by Apple again.

@@jeffwilcox9987 Yes sir - With my old Nikons, like the D4, I can change a MULTITUDE of settings by feel with my hands - AND FAST- while still looking through the lens.

@7:00: I disagree: Cameras should not have sims in them (for battery and privacy), and camera menus need more options, not less. I am extremely tempted at getting Photomator and paying outright as before apple bought it they were catching up pretty quick and I'm crossing my fingers that apple makes the changes faster with all their financial backing.
I'm glad somebody is talking about the horrific user interface you have to live with to shoot Sony. I know a lot of people do it, but I never could. I'm also close to taking the leap to Hasselblad. I'm sick of Canon's bizarre choices, and if it wasn't for the fact that Nikon has been making some noise, plus the fact that Hasselblad lenses are so hard to come by, I probably would have gone that way already.
Remember what happened to Apple's Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier Pro. So many switched over to Adobe from Apple due to the simplification changes Apple made to Final Cut Pro while many professional users wanted more advanced features. And due to Adobe having Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, After Effects, Audition, and Bridge all Intergrated together with each other made Premier Pro an obvious choice. So, now Apple strikes back at one of Adobe's most important programs. This is probably Adobe's most pinnacle program that even coined the term "photoshopping". So, Apple wants revenge for what happed to their video editor last time. And they might do the same thing again with simplification.
As a 55 year old couple, we love our cool x100vis and started having fun again.....even just shooting jpeg... 100% agree about the menus...make them simpler and logical. Learning the Fuji , while being Canon shooters , took a while and we are still finding functions...while anyone can pick up an iPhone or a Samsung or any phone and work it within a minute...
I love nikon interface: i need to change a video setting - i go to video setting. I need to change a photo setting - i go to photo settings, i need to change something genereal or buttons - i go to those settings. How would you like it to look? It’s much complicated to change something in my phone settings rather than my camera
Personally, I don't go into the menu on my Sony A7rIV much. When I do, it does require some head scratching, but its brief. Getting pictures downloaded more efficiently, and posted faster (though I already post prematurely sometimes) would be helpful, and make pro cameras more competitive with phones. I'm a photo prof and I can see that my students question jumping through the hoops of using a dedicated camera when their phones require less technical knowledge and get their images 'published' faster. I work hard to teach them the technical controls and their benefits, but output speed is a challenge.
I loved Aperture which came out before Lightroom. Why Apple dropped it has always wondered me. Now they could merge and improve Pixelmator and Photomater into a suite, like Adobe, so you would have Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and photo editing. But we shall see!!! Everybody has an idea!!
LUMIX S9 baby! Is it a good camera? It’s subpar BUT holy crap am I shooting more! It’s small, powerful and has a cool look. I take it almost everywhere with me. Everyone hates on LUMIX but let’s keep it real, in the video realm, they kick ass! LUMIX LAB is also a nice way to connect to my camera on the fly.
An issue with ''real camera'' in a drone is the crazy cost if you destroy it. Most people won't be willing to do that. But if the drone it self keeps the camera quite safe, and is robust, that's a great idea.
Glad to see Apple is stepping into this space. I’ve used Adobe products for decades and hate their licensing model and would love to see somebody put them out of business.
Do you know what Tony? These days bad news outpaces good news and does it faster than ever! So it doesn’t matter who and what you like, which camera, gear and software you prefer, they will all get bought by someone who will change them for the worse, end them or charge you 10 times in subscription fees. The noise and hysteria don’t end there! For every actual news item that ends up as true, there are countless fake ones launched by those who just want to draw attention to themselves on social media and you have to muddle through to find out which items are true and which are not since they may affect your business and livelihood. I personally don’t have the energy for this stuff. I’m on the verge of shutting down and tuning out.
I used to upgrade Lightroom every 3 years for about $75 Canadian, so $25/year, then the subscription model made it about 6x more expensive and maybe even more now. Then it was constant news stories about Adobe making record profits. They're laughing all the way to the bank.
About the menu: I once mailed Nikon support that it should be possible to export all settings to an excel sheet. I only have an Z6(i) and for each base setting (PASM + Ux = 4 of them) you can make about 250 settings. If you use all Ux you could have to enter up to 1000 settings! And then I haven't counted video settings! Plug in an USB-cable to a computer, export the settings and then control them from an Excel-sheet! That would be a leap forward! It should also be possible to export settings from one camera type to another within the same brand, of course only those settings that are equal on both types. It would be a blessing when upgrading the camera from e.g. Z6(i) to Z6iii.
The overly complex menu system was one of the main reasons I invested in a Hasselblad X2d. My gosh that menu system is a dream!! Nevermind the amazing 102MP images.
I’m just a pro-sumer but I stopped using video and photo software back when Adobe etc stopped letting us buy their software and switched to the subscription model. I can afford the monthly fees but I feel that they are much too high! They think we have to use their products so they can charge whatever they want to keep shareholders happy but they have pushed away so many people like myself. There are plenty of freeware options that function well enough. Just my opinion of course.
6:36 With the Sony Creator's app is fast, no issues with it, it's been problem free. The only thing to note is to shoot in RAW+JPG, so if you want to import the image it's a actual JPG image not a built in preview which is heavily compressed.
When I heard Sony was going to make drones, I was skeptical. The reason is that at the time when the navigation devices were booming, Sony also made navigation devices but they were the worst. Sony couldn't make GPS, which was the key to navigation. Then Sony tried to make drones, if so, Sony must be a master of GPS. Again, as I expected, Sony is not good at GPS.
I do agree about how cameras really need a massive UI upgrade, more in line with the gold standard of the phone cameras for ease of use, dial driven, etc. I grew up with 35mm SLRs. I have a Canon R10, but on numerous occasions I find myself fighting the camera because one too many options changed and now it's not performing the way I expected. Then I reach for my phone because that moment isn't going to happen again and the phone can capture it, even if not as well. But if I'm facing this, how about a teenager? They're simply not going to bother with it. And that's what will kill a brand in the long run. And from what I've seen, all brands are guilty of this.
good point. the manufacturers forgot about useability. While i agree on the dials thing, id rather have both dials and menu items, then no or little menu but a few more dials. As for fast lenses, designing fast lenses is difficult, especially ones with high resolution is rather hard and expensive. As for resolution, you will quickly run into diminishing returns, as the laws of physics give a maximum resolution that a lens can resolve. Its rather pointless having a camera that can resolve about 2x more then the lens in normal opperation can. This is why medium and especially large format rule supreme in terms of resution.
Is the solution to make 2024s cameras look like being from the 60's? I think that the camera needs to be reinvented. A company must have the guts to bring something really new. Might it be DJI?
It's already begun. On the Mac even, the new "clean up" or remove tool in Photos is a great beginning - complete with a feedback form and set-up for sending in the image in question. It's already (yay) keeping me out of Photoshop for quick workflow on messy stage shot backgrounds and some obstacles on the jpegs (I hate Lightroom and just use Photos, referenced, dozens of libraries, for cataloguing, sorting, etc. then of course raw into Photoshop).
5:58 Yes (No!) Revamp the user interface? I can operate pretty much any Nikon camera because the options are in the same place generally speaking. They don't all have the same options of course. It seems intelligent to me. Shutter options in one place, focus options in one place, video options in one place and so on. Nikon UI needs only be satisfactory to Nikon users. Canon options, while similar, aren't usually in Nikon places. I don't want Nikon to suddenly change where things are. I get that bad enough from Microsoft Windows. Change everything! That used to be an Apple Mac trademark. Upgrade your computer, now you get to upgrade all your applications.
Tony doesn't "care about image quality". He cares about how luxurious the camera looks and it should be 100+ megapixels and 100 f/s at least. Look like he doesn't care about audio too.
At timestamp 6:45 Amen! The Nikon app constantly downloads duplicates on the same image...WHY Nikon?? After all these years from DSLRS to Mirrorless, why haven't we been able to send out images *STRAIGHT* from our camera to the printers, just like you can do with your cell phone and tablet?!!? That's another connectivity issue that boggles my mind!!
I would absolutely love to ditch Lightroom. Does Photomater import large Lightroom databases or what I need to continue my Adobe subscription to access my photo library?
Mirrorless camera menus are still in the mud hut era. Agree, the manufacturers need to wake up - GPS, image transfer, connectivity, backup, menus layout, etc etc, all need to come into this century !!! Desperately And Abobe is currently the best for me, but they are arrogant, especially with their charging regime. Apple needs to shake them up and get Abode into action to sort themselves out to support photographers - not just seem them as cashcows

Tony doesn't "care about image quality". He cares about how luxurious the camera looks and it should be 100+ megapixels and 100 f/s at least. Look like he doesn't care about audio too.

Amen!
Well, I just picked up the iPhone 16 Pro. I gotta tell you I think these camera companies are deep dog doo-
I just got rid of my M1 and couldn't be happier
I would absolutely love to ditch Lightroom. Does Photomater import large Lightroom databases or what I need to continue my Adobe subscription to access my photo library?
Dont really care about A1, want to see RX10 update soon.
Never been able to afford Adobe products. I’m happy for this move by Apple.
I always liked my Nikon Z5. It is an excellent full frame travel camera and street camera..
Yes I'm struggling with it as well
Someone takes on Adobe - nice, then ... it's Apple which is even worse.
Sony should have aimed for the consumer market, 12k drone is clearly a prosumer category
O canal de vocês é muito bom. Sou seguidor desde o começo, aqui no Brasil!
8:33 GPS tagging is a must have feature. I can do it with Sony via the Creators app, but if you forget to connect it to the camera you are screwed.
Mirrorless camera menus are still in the mud hut era. Agree, the manufacturers need to wake up - GPS, image transfer, connectivity, backup, menus layout, etc etc, all need to come into this century !!! Desperately
And Abobe is currently the best for me, but they are arrogant, especially with their charging regime. Apple needs to shake them up and get Abode into action to sort themselves out to support photographers - not just seem them as cashcows
I wish DJI (or someone) makes a drone where I can just remove the battery of my Ronin and snap the gimbal to the drone and fly it with the camera!
You know, one day, Tony might actually poke his eye with the way he constantly removes his glasses at the start of these segments...
I'll be glad to see the back of Adobe as a corporation.... Had invested a lot of money in their products for them to go to subscription slavery .... Took a bit of time but now I need them less than they need me........
I run Adobe on iMac so hoping Apple does not Sabotage that.
My guess is that Apple aint gonna do ish with Photo/Pixelmator
So, no new Gold Master FE 24-70mm @ f/2.0 to be announced?
This thing about apple defines the default is such an unfortunate misconception since welp.. Other things exist & have existed...
For example as someone who's recently got into the Apple ecosystem I tried out their stuff & found my existing work flow to be better when it comes to certain specific software.
And to power all these features we need a small thermonuclear reactors inside our cameras
Hey man loving your Panerai watch! 🙌 ;) Cool post! cheers!
DJI is my favorite , great cinematography. saludos
Yes, it is! It is painful, like overdubs on a similar text
you are right ... camera must be able to connect to phones apps instantaneously
