  • Confession time, I've been homeschooling 2 years now and have 3 little girls. Today I'm sharing ten things we don't do in our homeschool! These are popular things that are GOOD but that we don't do - some of them will surprise you! If you DO do these things, that's amazing! I love that homeschooling is unique to each family and what doesn't work for one may work amazingly well for another! Even things that work during one season for the same family may not work in a different season - and that's OKAY! Share what you DON'T do in your homeschool in the comments!

    ABOUT ME:
Hi! I'm Sarah, mom of 3 daughters and wife to a busy chef! I have been a working mom from the start and have had jobs as an English teacher, nanny, daycare provider in our home, and now I focus solely on helping other busy moms create balance that sticks with my brand Work Life Glue. I am homeschooling and juggling creating a business while being a mom/wife/friend/daughter/sister/etc. It can be a lot, but I'm SO glad this is my life! I love to share how I fit everything in, how I keep our home organized and functioning well for my family, what I do to keep my girls learning and having fun, how I stay on top of all the things that come along with being a mom and homemaking, and so much more! I would love to have you as part of our Gluestick family, so please subscribe!

I love you for sharing this…I’m just starting to embark on my homeschool journey. I made the mistake of googling homeschool and, ugh the overwhelm.
Your videos have given me a realistic starting point, but this one truly was the video I needed, so thank you!!

Awesome video. Love how even as a type A you gave great ideas for simplicity in homeschooling!

We can only be so Type A before it becomes neurotic 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for sharing that you don't have your children do every task/chore with you. It can make the day more stressful! We also don't do a bunch of extracurriculars. It sounds like you are doing a great job!

We too are a homeschool family. We have very similar styles. I enjoy my 6 children and home as we learn. ❤. Only my teenagers help with meals. It works best for us. I often thought I am not that Instagram mommy. 😊

Thank you for sharing that! Yes with 6 it is so stressful with the little ones helping when we truly just need to get food on the table! I look back and I never cooked with my mom for supper and I was the only kid at home. I don’t remember doing many chores either until mid elementary school. And I turned out to be completely self-sufficient! I do remember helping baking which I loved and I do that occasionally with my kids

I am so glad to find another homeschool momma who does not do ALL.THE.THINGS! Hehehehe We have a very relaxed homeschool and go with the flow as well. I gave up trying to do the lesson plans, morning baskets, dedicated spaces, etc. My kiddo is the kind of personality who just wants to get his actual work done with no extras so he has more time to do the things he loves. 😃

I’m glad I’m not alone!!! So many ways to parent and homeschool and no one way is the right way!

Love the honesty in this video. I was almost at 100% with you until #10 and I’m tempted to drop those often for the reasons you mentioned. Great list!!! My girls are 6, 3, and 20 months so I get where you’re coming from. Oh and I’m also running my own businesses from home. It’s a lot!

We don't do a lot of those things either. My oldest is 11. We do no extracurricular activities. My 3-year-old helps cook meals, sometimes, my others aren't interested really, unless it's pancakes; however, my 11-year-old cooks some of her own things sometimes. No homeschool schedule at all really, just as long as we get the number of days required in our state.

Thank you for sharing what you actually do ❤.
I was talking to a friend about my SAHM/WFHM daily schedule for an 18mo and 4yo and frustration about constantly feeling like I’m chasing my tail and just cannot get caught up.
That’s when she blew my mind and said, “Your expectations are completely unrealistic.” I feel like I’m not doing enough when I leave the kids out of the chores or turn on a movie while I shower, but it’s enough for now, and our children are growing so fast our routines and coping mechanisms will change and grow too.

I totally get it! It so hard when we have all these people’s highlight reels on social media to compare to. Nobody is doing it all. I have to remind myself of that daily. Everyone’s kids are different. Everyone’s personality is different. Everyone’s situation is different. What someone else swears by would completely fall apart for another person. We just do the best we can in our particular situation and season and then give ourselves grace!

Oh man you are speaking my language here...lol. I would love to be a mom with no job who could just pour myself into only homeschooling and homemaking, but the reality is that I'm a self-employed single mother so we are all open and go here....we are often flying by the seat of our pants in that we take time off when my busy work schedule requires. I love the flexibility of homeschooling. Great video!

Thank you! Working and homeschooling can be hard but it’s also possible! So many think it’s not possible and done even try which makes me sad! I’m glad you are making it work for your family!
