Your attention to detail and commitment to doing this car correctly is amazing. The owner is very fortunate to have you doing his car.
I just want him to have something to be proud of
@@HotRodGuyGarage, looks to me like it’s gonna be better than factory. That has become a hand built car!
😎
Your cat is beautiful. I'm impressed with your knowledge and ability. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
The car is looking better and better .The dash pad delete looks killer .I would not have thought about doing that!
Just something to set it apart from all the others
The dash always intimates me lol
"Intimate" or "intimidate"?
Thanks for posting these videos. So important to keep this type of craftsmanship alive - you do that by inspiring others.
Absolutely no problem,I'm glad there's people learning from them
Dont know why that posted 2x sorry 😊
No problem 😁
Thanks Russ for sharing another great video, I really appreciate your patience on the body working and the way you explain what you are doing. It’s going to look Great!
You are very welcome, thanks for the visit
Starting to look like a car someone can actually be proud to own! 👍
I hope so!
Your knowledge and skills continue to amaze me video after video!
Thanks again!
Each issue you address for the mustang is not done in 15 minutes,. You have a huge amount of patience and planning as you go over this car inch by inch, It's clear that this is not your first mustang you have worked on. Even with your wealth of knowledge on these models it still takes a large amount of time to square and align. Your dogged matter of fact approach pushing forward to make it right again is amazing. I also love you pointing out the High level of genius Hackery that this vehicles was subjected too and the steps to getter right again.
Usually each video covers about 2-3 days of work or approximately 20-30 hours
I am really enjoying this, thank you.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching
Amazing work. The Mustang will be a show car. The attention to detail is what will set this car apart from the rest. The fitment is way above what the car had new from the Ford factory. You are an asset to the car building /restore community. Excellent vid.
Thanks for the kind words, i hope he will be proud of it for many years
Very excellent 😊
There are a million "tips" on doing this stuff. and it's good to share even if they don't work for everyone. A couple that worked for me for many decades, are when doing a tight patch fit or you need low heat absorption, is a moist rag, not dripping. Just tap it on the fresh weld spot and it obviously sucks out the heat and tightens up the metal to minimize any expansion. But doesn't make the weld brittle. Another one on pot metal is just lightly taking the edge of an angle grinder disc to the areas that with be filled, the deeper scratches than sandpaper really grabs the filler. And last, the neon zip ties from HF are great toys for the kitties, (ours love em) I bet Daisy would love a few in the shop. I just make a ring and toss them... 😸
Great tips also! And I may make her one up
Looking more like a car 🚗.
Won't be long I hope!
Another great video your attention to detail is second to none. That's going to be a great looking and solid Mustang when you're done. Great job!
Thanks, I try my best to make sure everything is as good as I can make it
Great work.
Thank you! Cheers!
yet again fantastic professional and highly skilled work and attention to detail, love to Daisy.
Thank you! Cheers!
Not many people would know to do what you are doing. Great work!
Hopefully many will learn from this series
Great video and work. So much patience to detail. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoy the videos so much, thank you. Short, simple reply, looking forward to more on the Mustang and your personal projects.
Glad you like them! There's many more to come
I so appreciate your videos with this car! You should be teaching this stuff at a local college! Cause we sure need to preserve skills like yours!
I appreciate that!
I like the dashpad delete, looks trick. She's coming along nicely. Well done!
It'll be fine if the passenger is wearing a crash helmet 😉
That vinyl pad won't keep someone from eating the windshield either way in a accident
@@HotRodGuyGarage Lap belts
Russ video kicken butt 😊😊
Thanks Dave
😎😎
I actually didn't know that about the Bondo dust. See us old geezers can still learn something. 😂
"GEEZERS"--------👈👀🤔😆
It can happen for sure
@@genehunsinger3981 😄😄👍
Always interesting to check in on the project. Super cool to see a classic emerging from all the surgery. Thanks for taking us along on the journey and showing the process of proper fit and finish. I'm getting excited and it's not even my car. Continued good luck and fortitude. Give Daisy a pat for me.
I'll give her some extra pets
The dash turned out Great, hope you can get it painted before the weather changes 👍
I'm on track to as long as the pegs keep falling in the holes
U will be driving ms daisy soon lol😊
I hope so!
I'm learning something on everyone of your video's!!!
Glad to hear it!
I have learned so much from you, thank you for doing these videos.
Glad to help
Brilliant work. Love the videos
Thank you very much!
Awesome job on that dash!
Thanks! I think it will make it different in the seas of the same cars
Real nice body work
Thanks
Looks excellent ur the master lol cheers 🥂 😊
Thank you kindly
@@HotRodGuyGarage the master o that Is daisy sorry cheers 🥂 lol 😂
Excellent Russ will leave u alone play it loud 🔊
Everything on this car seems to be a struggle! Body and paint are going to be great when you're done. Sure hope its got decent engine and running gears! Thx!
Fingers crossed!
The dash looks amazing after all of the metal work on this. It is great to see the transformation on this car. Can't wait to see the next video!! Keep up the excellent work my friend.
It's starting to come around hard to believe how screwed up this thing is and was
Looking good!
Thanks!
Yep. Learning something on each video. I now know what it takes sometimes to get these body lines and seams to line up and fit. Of course yours look better than the factory fit up on most old cars. Good job on that.
Awesome glad it helps. Im just trying to get this one to a nice driver level
That car is turning out super nice my friend! Ugh, the headlight buckets. I remember dealing with those on a project way back. It’s as though someone cast them from memory rather than a mold. Keep up the great work!
There definitely not great parts
MOMMA'S feet are'nt the only thing wanting messaged! Those panels need some love'n too!!!!
Always, it wouldn't be as horrible if it had OEM metal but this car has been a curve ball from day 1
I worked in a body shop and at the Chevrolet dealers shop for 6 or 7 years after high school. Did not know that dust is flammable. Never heard anything about nor was there ever an incident. Maybe our stuff wasnt flammable.
Any dust is flammable. Ever heard of grain elevators exploding?
It takes a decent amount and a direct flame to light it off but not worth the chance
In the 18th century (and 19th century) flour mills (even watermills) could have explosions when static electricity ignited the flour dust.
1st IN-yeah
Awesome 😎
Ahh, yes the dreading pot metal extension! It's truly amazing how you can have 10 of them, from 10 different cars and they all fit differently to the fender! 30+ years ago, I worked part time in a Junkyard where there was still a plethora of old Mustangs. The owner of the Yard made it a point, if you want a fender, you have to buy the extension too. If you want a quarter panel, you get the extension too. Came from experience. Right down to people who would complain they didn't fit, and he'd end up with a pile of returns that "didn't fit ". Once again thanks for sharing your talent with us! And as always, I appreciate it, and looking forward to seeing more 😎 🇺🇲 🇺🇲🇺🇲
Absolutely the truth there! Not one is the same , makes you wonder if they shuffled through a pile at the assembly line
Now to find a radio with the proper offset of the knobs...😂 Nice looking work.
Plenty of retro style radios shouldn't be too hard
There are a few companies that make "direct replacement" radios that add Bluetooth so you have a stock look and modern conveniences. One actually makes one that says mustang right in the middle 🙄
I'm amazed! Is there any job on a car that you CAN'T do?
After all these years thats a good question
As always, thanks for showing us the process with each step.
No problem, thanks for watching
Another good video from you. My GTX has the dash hacked up for a aftermarket stereo and has the package tray cut too. So this vid was interesting to watch. You do good work Russ, Daisy must help you stay focused! 🙂😎
I wish people would consider what it takes to fix the mess when they just throw whatever radio they can in a classic car.
@@HotRodGuyGarage Too bad I don't live closer to you, I'd definitely have you work on my car.
Surprisingly I have found your tips of great help in my project. Not a car but a cardboard and wood model of Wartburg Castle in Germany. Making it all fit can be a challenge.
Awesome, good luck with your model!
Great work I think your gap's and panal fit is probably better than when the car's were new I see Daisy loves to be around you in the workshop.
Thanks, they were not great gapped cars when new by any means but some were better then others
Nice job on fitting the radio patch. One reason I bought my old '66 is because it made it 50+ years without the dash being hacked for a radio.
A rarity to make it that long and not be all hacked up!
This is true of ANY car! Classic and even up to the early 2000s hacked dashes and extra holes cut for junk speakers 🙄
I have a 67 V-8 convertible needed motor mounts had 5 different sets sent to me that didn't work. Ended up paying an extra $40 to have them test fit on a 67 they had on their lot- quality of most parts has gone down to all time low. Great work enjoy watching your videos and remembering all the hurdles to get my girl in a good place.
It never ends or at least it feels that way lol
Always look forward to the videos! May when this one is done fire up a series with the 66!
Definitely going to have to find a sponsor on that one or a money tree to shake
The radio area and dash turned out great. I have not seen a dash pad delete done before but knowing how the same era trucks with and without dash pads looked I think it's gonna look sharp.
As for aftermarket stuff...i agree...getting the best you can is preferred but if every place under the sun is out of stock your hands are tied. I think the chinesium fenders have a bearing on the issues you have run into with fitment. The lack of holes where needed is maddening though.
Potmetal is an art unto itself as far as tweaking a bit here and there but i like how you worked them with the quarter together...guaranteed to fit and look good. It's always the little piddley stuff that seems to eat the most time up though given how long the floors and other patch panel R&R took.
It's looking good though...better and better each day!!
Hopefully it won't be long and we can have some paint sprayed on it!
Great job
Thanks
Awesome job buddy 👏 👍
Thanks for the visit
Nice work on the dash buddy
Thanks, it looks a ton better
The dash looks absolutely fantastic and now you can put an error correct stereo in it or radio
And it will definitely look like it belongs! No reason to cut these old cars with all the options we have nowdays!
That car continues to be a trip down Alice's rabbit hole - never ending surprises and issues to solve. Such a lesson in why it is best to spend the money on a good car and hire a pro to examine it.
Hopefully we are climbing up now 😁
I am absolutely learning and I think I need to practice with the MIG welder on some scrap sheetmetal. Like a lot of mechanics, I can do mild steel just fine, but sheetmetal is delicate. I have 3 places on my car that will need patches welded in. Thanks!
You can do it! Get you some scrap and practice
Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
Hourly there is no way to bulk price a job like this one
Nice job on that dash pad. Will the radio be an AM original or AM/FM aftermarket that looks period correct ?
Planning on a updated bolt in
It's amazing how these replacement panels and parts are so far off. That radio panel piece appears to be the only one I've seen on this car that seems to fit. I can understand why the guys at Yorkshire Car Restoration across the pond almost never get panels and make their own. You buy something and have to spend almost as much time making it fit as it would if you started with a piece of sheet metal and fabricated your own piece. The Mustang is getting noticeably straighter and much better matched as you go along. So much time into it. I don't have nearly enough patience to do this.
If you have the tools it's definitely better to make your own in most cases
Custom Auto Sound produces a line of retro style radios with modern features. That would be great.
Exactly what I'm planning
I had early production fiber glass quarter panel extensions on my 69 Mach 1 which had passable fitment
I bought used original later production pot metal ones but never did use them because when I put the heavier 70 wing on the trunk lid surprisingly it didn't need the 70 prop rod setup to stay up
No need for pot metal extensions for a prop rod support hole after all
At least the fiberglass would be easier to work if you had too!
That's a LOT of work to do it right.
Absolutely
1. Attention to detail. 2. Attention to detail. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2. 🙂
Absolutely
wow its a mustang again.
It's getting there
Forget CJ, try Kentucky Mustang
Put brass behind the little holes when welding, lot easier
Brass or a copper slug works well
You have better luck with your Harbor Freight welder than I do. Between the wire speed being incinsistent and the wire running on after I release the trigger, I'm not a fan.
I've had good luck with the titanium series so far
One unpopular thing I would do is to install a non traditional radio bracket - frame in the car. I know it looks differently but this car will be for enjoying and not concours points. Also your safety officer needs her own safety vest to wear in the shop while she is inspecting.
I've had many different styles of radios in cars I personally prefer a stock layout in most everything I entertained fixing the crooked hole but a 16.00 patch was the easiest option
Sure you can't polish a turd, but it would appear you can massage it into something reasonable with some knowledge and a metric F ton of determination! Nice job my friend! 🍻
I've got the polisher on high 😆
@@HotRodGuyGarage 🤣🤣🤣
It is hard to believe there was a time when you were planning to not touch the front end and still had the motor, dashboard, door panels, etc installed. This has really become a nut and bolt (although I guess not subframe-off) restoration. This may not be a SEMA restoration, but I do think it will be a nice show car with the attention to detail you are giving the panel fitment. I am disappointed in Daisy, as quality inspector, for accepting delivery of those headlight bezels. ; )
I hope it's something he can be proud of
Subframe-off comes later 😉
The guy's just gonna throw a Kraco 4 watt/channel stereo in that hole anyway...
Be a upgrade over the one in it
@@HotRodGuyGarage 😄😄
So many small things going on
Absolutely, leading up to a big thing in a few weeks
Always learn something from watching this, have to laugh though, watching you laying down filler like painting a picture, and that's ok I do it the same way,get picked on about it that's OK, how's the Torino, compression test said alot
I try to lay it out 😆 and I'm working on a torino video for Monday morning now I've got a plan together I think but Ive got a ton to do and a short time to do it, well on both cars really I've got probably a month of decent paint weather left
The main problem with reproduction parts is that I would bet that the makers don't have the original drawings and are trying to make them off old parts.
Absolutely or damaged molds
Reminds me of a 100 plus year old house I've worked on. Every day was a surprise...and not in a good way. All the dirty words must be edited out. 😉
Absolutely 😆
@@HotRodGuyGarage 😆
You can buy used parts that’s better than new garbage
If you can find a seller that doesn't want new money that's always a option
Awesome job. I learned a lot. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
