One major difference between Joe and Ryan is where they set the shot. Ryan much more forward like a glider where Joe is behind his ear. Ryan's arm position looks to be in better position to push.
I agree, but I feel like the only reason why there are throwing relatively the same distances is because with the shot set further back on the neck it allows to push for longer.
I think it also has to do with their anatomy.

When gliding you want to have it more up on your neck because gliding requires on more explosive technique and requires more strength while a full throw is more release and momentum so you need more room to push and get more spin on the shot
I noticed that Ryan was in the air at his release. I am wondering how much more is there if he were to keep his right foot grounded longer. I would love to hear some thoughts on that.
Thanks.
such a great analysis! thanks a lot!
def trying the static start know haha, thanks for this video
I'm with you on the trebuchet. I tell my kids to think of a catapult or to vault up on their left.
I love this. I just learned so much.
Good analysis! 👍
This is out of date already as the longest throw - now @ 23.56m - wowser Crouser!
Awesome video and commentary...
The next level of analyzing these throwers is by drone straight over head with zoom on the gimbal dji mini or dji 3. I’m drone pilot will do some research with my throwers but that’s next level are sensors on elbow jointz and wrist for velocity readers and drones from different views and a angles
Also !! Just look at Brian "Big O" Oldfield 1975 shot put @ 22,86 m ! in El Paso Texas. Only 48 years ago !
Yeah you’re right, that’s not a static start, but I think for certain he doesn’t stretch as far as he normally would before throwing
Ryan’s technique is reminiscent of Tim Volmer and his uncle Dean. It’s almost exactly the same.
and now it's removed
Sir please video by Niraj Chopra Olympic gold medalist..
