Bono, your beam is amazing. Praying your operation goes accordingly and for a fast recovery. Great to see the Finnish Boat Show and all your friends. Thanks again for this episode.
I cannot imagine that they are cheap. But you may keep your eyes peeled for some overhead infrared heaters. They actually warm the concrete floor under foot and are rather efficient from what I understand.
Pano! you now have a real boat shop to work in, Nice. I think you have no Idea about the size of your undertaking, but, I encourage you anyway. This will be a grand adventure. Good luck to you young man.
Hi Panu, great to see the shape in full -- good size ship!!! As to the heater situation ... that same design heater is also made to run on propane -- i use one for my shop It burns much cleaner without the smoke at startup. I would still suggest installing a CO2 detector -- even if you only run at night, it will let you know that it is safe to enter in the morning. I would also add lightweight ceiling fans to evenly distribute the heat as you have such high ceilings, or at least point some floor based fans up at the ceiling to move the heat back down to the floor -- you will definitely see a better result at floor level.
Hi, thanks! Propane isn’t really an option here. It’s not widely used here. Only for rv’s or boats really. Very rarely for heating. Also it creates a lot of moisture when burned. I already bought diesel heater with separate exhaust. 🙂 Those fans could be a good idea though!
The foundation of the boat is taking shape at last - the plan view shows a good sized boat and I am so looking forward to more progress soon. Good luck with the surgery :)
I think you're now the leading boat building channel on the youtubes, as most of the others are now in the water, or very close to it... keep up the great work!
Pano, fantastic progress and good news that you have the insulation sorted out in the shop, it should help keep you cool in summer.😉 I take it you ordered that old heater from Russia before the border closure. Good to see a familiar face and trying to work out how he had hidden the dreadlocks. At this rate you will soon catch up with Johan and Malin.😀👍⛵️
Thanks Norman! There’s no worries of keeping things cool here. There’s maybe 2-4 weeks in year when temps are above epoxy threshold 🥶. And I wish i could. Catch them I mean. They work full time with the boat, I’m like 1/4 if even that…
Panu, I really like your approach to fully designing the boat prior to building it. I think you will be very successful with the in general. Also, it strikes me that you can build more boats after the first one.
Hi, thanks! I agree that it’s good to make somewhat detailed plans even if you’re building one-off like this. Not that I’d ever gonna build another one but I think the method I’m using here is pretty efficient! (If someone would like to buy one of these, it’s of course negotiable 😁. However then there would need to be all kinds of permits, CE-certificates etc.)
What CAD system did you use for this purpose? you could sell a limited license to the models for a single build. I don't know if your planning included the interior which a big part of the work. anyway, great project and very good progress for a single person.@@ArcticSeaCamel
@@jean-francoismanchec2603 I'm using ArchiCAD which is architecture software (that i have license for and i've used it for almost 20 years (gosh!)). It's not ideal software to do boats and/or these CAM things at all. But that's what I have and I know so well... Selling partial plans and/or CAM files could be one option. It must feel great to finally have the shed fully insullated. Not to get the heating sorted. RAN Sailing has a diesel heater that has an exhaust they have routed outside; seems to work quite well. Very impressive to see the whole boat layed out. Exciting times!
I just found your channel just as you begin your boat construction. Hard to believe there are 70 episodes prior to this one! 1st impressions: You have a huge shed in which to work, and a very large CNC machine for your wood cutting! With expenditures like that it is amazing you have any money left to buy the supplies! I'll have to go back and review your earlier episodes to see what I've missed. Good job getting BOTH of the Finnish sailors in one video! 😉
Thanks! It has been a long and slow progress over the years. It has been something like six years from the first video. It then started as a dream without basically anything. After that there has been a lot of boat design, CNC design, buying a small boat and converting that to electric, purchasing and building the workshop and all the tools. On the side all the day work and developing my own company (and now there’s depression of building sector in Finland) And yes, vast majority of the money has gone into the workshop so far. So no - it hasn’t been easy and particularly fast. Also the growth of this channel has been tediously slow - mostly due the fact that there’s too little happening. But, if I just manage to keep up with the money side, I’m pretty sure that from now on there’s going to be more progress and faster. Also hoping that eventually making these videos will be worth while. 😅
@@daomingjin Yeah. The parts for moving and controlling that thing are quite affordable. The expensive part is all the physical mechanics that need to be machined very precisely. This DIY thing costed around 11K€. Not including the design and assembly work of course. This size semi-pro-hobbyist machine is around 20-30K to buy. The work area is very large. 1500mm x 2940mm. If I'd do it again I'd probably go with aluminum extruded frame. Or maybe I would actually get used 6 axis industrial robot. With proper installation with track I could probably do all the shaping of the frames with that kind of tool.
Panu, It looks amazing, both the tent, and the boat layout. Heck even the video seemed even better than usual. Well done. Oh and I swear a wood burning stove might be a good choice, the type that have a burning area that draws air from outside and uses a fan to move inside air through the building. That way no heat loss and no CO2. Assuming any wood stoves are legal where you are.
Glad you're working again. I've worked with a cnc router for 20 years and like what you are doing. Caution on the diesel heater and fumes with breathing, painting, and fiberglass. I use electric heat in my shop, but it's much smaller than yours and can be costly. Have you considered a woodburning heater?
Not really. I'd really like to avoid open flame in the shop (even though this one had one) and there's actually quite little extra wood scrap coming. I need also the heater to be independent over night. I don't really need the heat but the glue does 😅
@@ArcticSeaCamelwhen you start painting heat will even be more important. Leaving it unattended is also key. In your location a heater is a cornerstone of the project.

This kind of heater should burn the diesel very cleanly. So the exhaust is carbon dioxide and water vapor. And then that small amount of something that smells bad. But not carbon monixide. RAN sailing has similar heater and they tested it last fall when they installed it. :)
That type of heater is a bullet/torpedo heater and will produce carbon monoxide as well as other toxic fumes. The heater that RAN use is not similar. It has an external flue and is the type of heater that should be used to heat an enclosed space.
@@svlamancha9877 My understanding is that carbon monoxide is produced only if burning isn't "perfect". The principle with these heaters is the same. They just have the chimney version. And I actually bought almost exactly the same model. With chimney connection. They tested the exhaust with carbon monoxide detector and it didn't say anything. 🙂
Mate your approach is different and that’s OK however the amount of cost involved in setting up must be huge just the plywood base alone let alone the time. I’m hopeful it speeds the build up but I can’t see it ,I’ve built and you can double what u think it will take in time alone
