When we finished grad school almost 20 years ago, my roommates were buying Maseratis, Porsches, etc. Growing up a poor immigrant I didn't go that direction and set aside about 15k/yr for index funds in my 401k. You can do that math on how that went ... I threw money into risky plays but stayed the course on index funds dollar cost averaging and dumping large amount during COVID as well.

Walmart was a great company to work for while Sam was still alive: profit sharing, insurance, decent pay, and strongly American made. His kids have destroyed the company.
