I worked in a club were he played, but i forgot. When i read his name here many years later, a voice inside said 'he's good!' And so it is! Very glad to find this today on YT.
Alineación: Mathias Eick tp | Andreas Ulvo p | Erlend Viken vl | Audun Erlien b | Torstein Lofthus dr

Great stuff this with the folk influence of the violin. My dad loved jazz and died too young some 40 years ago - if only he could have heard music like this. We are so blessed.
Wow! What a great discovery it is for me! :O With the first sounds (within 3 minutes exactly) I sensed those very Scandinavian tunes (before I google the name to see Mathias is from Norway) mixed with Midwestern motifs. Loved "Dakota" (maybe because I've been there and it felt so familiar) and "November". But "MARCH" - forgive me my bold sincerity, but I don't think even Vivaldi was so precise! Will be "digging" for more!
+edima50 Ich war auch dabei! Sinnlich und poetisch trifft es sehr schön. Ein wundervoller (sehr heißer) Nachmittag, der mit dem Michael Wollny Trio abgerundet wurde.
This is incredible, the melodies feel so classical and the scale seems so huge! Not at all familiar with Mathias Eick and will be listening more! Thanks for sharing this set.
These guys are new to me also and i have to so i totally loved it !! An exquisite set, loved the interplay between the trumpet and violin, will be checking out their recorded output & i hope they will come to England in 2018 !! Thanks Jazz Baltica...
They're from Oslo--Norway. There is a wealth of European Jazz, most readily available on the ECM label, all impeccably engineered and produced by Manfred Eicher. I recommend his earlier RUclips concert-videos, especially one called "North Sea Jazz Festival" from a few years back, in which Eich's ensemble features TWO drummers and the violinist has not yet joined the group, but a saxophonist is present for a different, equally evocative vibe. Each of his/their CDs is a piece of art.
Vakker musikk. Har flere skiver enn dere aner, ENDELIg fele. Regards From Dag

Jazz is an unappreciated art in India. This music can cease conflicts here. Love from India.
In my opinion, classical Indian music is a kind of jazz music,
Anoushka Shankar for example.

So many people, so many styles... Lovely...
I'm late to the party, but still very glad I discovered Mathias and his mates!
ECM Records and their diverse roster of talent is my northern star of my musical soul.
It's just AMAZING! So kind, so soulful, so honest music! Thank you

Gracias por compartir. Otro ejemplo de la gran calidad del jazz europeo, el mejor del mundo.
