    "Success is a habit". -Aristotle
    We don't rise to the level of our aspirations, we fall to the level of our habits. Formulate your different goals and plan your day in an agenda; write a journal with 3 points of gratitude and 3 objectives for the day; plan your workout and have your gym bag & clothes ready by the door; wake up, open the window for 5 minutes, make your bed and say a morning prayer, everyday; prep your meals once or twice a week; every night, take 20 minutes to prepare your things for the next day, 20 minutes for brushing your teeth and skin/face care, and 20 minutes for prayer, meditation and breathing in your bed as you fall asleep; etc.
    Great video and insights! Spirituality and Psychology is 90% of life! And, the greatest journey starts with the smallest steps. Thank you!

    Just about to hit 43, Grant & things are starting to stick. But it's taken 24 years of over-reaching, self-loathing/pity, believing the wrong cultural stories, & a few unwanted diagnosis, to really look at things how they are.
    And what a great video for everyone who's just starting out. Was just thinking of Pressfield, & The Artists Way, that you touched on. Many thanks for sharing your experience..✊🥰

      That's awesome Toni! Although it's hard and you have to choose not to view past shortcomings in a negative light... In the grand scheme of things you realise they were actually necessary in order to teach you the truth

      45 here and fighting the good fight as well. Also learning how to apply a calmer, more consistent energy & approach to my methodology. Part of acceptance of where one is in life is also a recognition of the phase of life they are in. Thinking this way, I can work to shore up those long term weaknesses while also supporting the best version I can of the man I am today. Best of luck to you in your journey

    A good way to break out of a bad rut is to make yourself accountable to others. Join a martial arts club or sport team. Even if you quit later, you will hopefully ingrain some good habits that stick with you. The more people you tell the better. Sometimes the fear of having to explain why you failed is an extra kick in the pants when you really need it.

    I totally relate to the "wanting to go all out on a new thing, but then beating myself up for not hitting these super unrealistic goals." The combination of therapy and journaling has been incredibly valuable for being able to recognize and question my own thinking. Celebrate the small consistent steps.

    • @grantstevensma
      @grantstevensma  Год назад +2

      Yea man, it's not the big goals that's the problem I think it's more the expectations about the timeframe on reaching them and underestimating what it will take. We live in an instant gratification society

    I started Muay Thai when i was 16. Still training now age 44. One of the best habits that ive kept is having a diary writing everything down that ive done. It helps because i can look back on it and see the work ive put in and feel like ive written books too. Then ill buy another diary and fill that one up and so on 😄

    Happy you're keeping the great content coming grant and thanks for it..
    My personal issue was setting a high set of achievements even when i was not ready for it...either being training or work.
    "if you can't do it then you don't deserve to go on".."not being able to complete this while some others could means you are really below ground level "
    ...it really messed me up..not from a "not sticking to something" but not improving in it which resulted in many injuries, collapses and really despising my self..
    Thankfully i ended up in a better place and accepted that not being on a certain level like others isn't bad and took it easy..
    Finally achieving what i used to set for myself when i started and even every now and then aome of these thoughts comes yet i try to grow out of this
    ...so please to anyone out there starting.. Don't be ashamed of a starting point or level being low compared to even other beginners.

    Thank you for your incredible videos!
    I just found your channel (thx to TheBioneer). You're amazing, just don't stop creating. I believe if you keep publishing such a high quality content regularly, youtube algo's will make you more popular, because people have to find you and hear what you say. I already showed your videos for several friends! You're great!
    If you lack easy ideas, could you please create some simple follow along videos, for different people (more for beginners - like me). Your way of thinking and training is completely different from most fitness influencers. It would be very very nice to see how one should progress from being a sedentary, fat office worker to someone somewhat able to survive doing your agility training routine (I'm sure I can't, I just don't have the endurance). A lot of busy people (working long hours, having several kids) choose the most easy way to be fit - gym. As a 45 y/o, I lift weights regularly and stretch daily, I even look decently (not fat, just bulky), but you showed a new world with all the endurance, speed and agility training. And grace! You look amazing doing even simple things. Thank you!
    I just want to add one thing. Tracking one's progress. This was probably the most important thing to keep me motivated. I just note (and film) my achievements. Month after month I can see myself improving just a small bit and that's enough. Your video's surely motivated me to improve even more (diet! Speed, endurance). I might go and join a martial arts club.

    Really useful stuff here, it is impressive to see the evolution of your channel over time. On the subject of the correlation between artificial sweeteners and anxiety, do you recommend any sources I could send to someone I care about? I would like them to have that info to make a better more informed decision on their health.

    • @grantstevensma
      @grantstevensma  Год назад +1

      Thank you very much, I appreciate it. I understand wholeheartedly how it feels when you want to help people you care about, but in my experience they have to be ready or willing to take the information and if not they can actually find it offensive as they're unwittingly trying to protect their current identity, so just bear that in mind.
      With that being said though, I'd look at anything by Andrew Huberman, and also Paul Saladino does a lot of these expose type reals on his instagram about harmful things in supermarkets which are great too!
