    -Floor Pans
This is a 1987 Jeep Comanche. It's equipped with the AMC 4.0L Engine, Peugeot BA 10/5 5 Speed Manual Transmission, NP231 Transfer Case, Dana 35 Rear Axle and Dana 30 Front Axle. It is the long wheelbase configuration with a 7 foot bed. I bought it with 115,000 Miles, and in this video series, I planned to restore this truck, but it's kind of become a matter of keeping it alive.

A long while back, in Episode 3, I tore down the interior and planned to have new floors welded in. I took it to a local body shop, and from 30 feet away the guy said it was beyond saving;. that I should just scrap it. However, one does not simply scrap a Comanche. For the next year (and winter), I drove around with no carpet or floor. Very dangerous, don't recommend. But fortunately I can actually drive and don't T-bone people after running red lights.
Jay's Grandpa spent a lot of time in the past welding in floors and fixing rusty frames in various Fords and Chevy's, and thus has the experience required to fix such a thing. The process is pretty straightforward but does require a good amount of skill to do correctly.
1: Strip the interior completely. Remove the seat, seat belts, trim, carpet, center console, and move any wires out of the way of the floor.
2: Find and cut out the rust and bad metal using grinding wheels, sawzalls or other methods.
3: Protect what metal you can by using rust reformer, primer and paint in areas that won't be accessible after you're done.
4: Cut new metal to shape, fit it in and weld it down. Remove the front driveshaft for some more underside room. Be aware of seat belt bolts, wires, and other mounting points for various things.
5: Use caulk to seal any ridges, especially welds and undercoat the underside.
6: Install sound dampening material and a new carpet
7: Reassemble the interior and congratulate yourself and those who helped for saving an icon.
Up next I plan on overhauling the entire front suspension to fix death wobble. I plan on new ball joints, steering linkage, track bar, control arms, sway bar links and possibly some new coil springs. The thing is, the Dana 30 is identical to the Cherokee so I'm not sure people would want more content that doesn't directly pertain to the Comanche. We'll see
