I bought the Old Town Guide 11.9 a few years ago. Same as the Discovery 11.9 except it has a kayak seat a few inches off the bottom with awesome stability. Love it. I'm 46 and didn't want to spend a lot of money on a kevlar solo canoe. The weight was way more manageable than my old Aluminicraft "Battleship" Canoe at 88lbs. I live close to northern MN and take my Guide 11.9 into the BWCA on solo wilderness trips a few times per year. Packs away all my gear and enough food for an extended stay. They are great solo canoes!
Thanks. I got the idea from someone else. It works really well. I have a couple more modifications to my canoe that I'll be doing before serious canoe season.
What a great mod! My discovery 119 shipped yesterday and i plan on using it for hunting/fishing. This is a great mod for me to keep hunting gear close at hand. Thanks for posting!
Securely attached can be a bad thing to..it's very difficult to right a turned over canoe that has gear strapped to it.. my gear is attached by 7 ft ropes. That way I can right my canoe without my gear floating away..
@j.t.c.9157 that’s a solid point. I actually ditched this set up a while back. It was just too cumbersome while on the water. Great point about flipping, though.
THE PROPER WAY: molle gear is designed to have support every 1" on center. to avoid the sag you have , i suggest using a strip of aluminium stock (homedepot)instead of the webbing. use a spacer /standoff between aluminium strip and gunnel.hang your molle on the strip. you'll thank me later. i give you credit for being the few canoers that realize the flexibility of molle gear
Four years, seven months and 22 days in the Marine Corps made me very familiar with MOLLE. This wasn't designed to be actual MOLLE. The sag would really only be a problem if I was wearing the gear. Two of the three pouches hung have belt loops. I don't use the canteen much on my canoe and have removed that pouch. But it is nice to have the option when I need it. Really all I needed was a place to keep certain items I like to bring with me. I appreciate the ideas, however. Thanks for joining me.
@@RussellVineyard then you know gear is meant to lace in the web. We cant do that becuase of the single gunnel attact point. The widest alum flatstock that will allow the molle/pal strap to snap closed, will really tighten the gear when loaded. A full cateen in that single webstrap must have swung like buffelo's nutsack in any rough water. Anyway happy sailin'
@@RussellVineyard semper fidelis Marine! I’m Vietnam Era Amphibious Navy, spent many good days in a hole with Marines, planning where we were gonna plant our sensors next. I have a 147 Guide canoe and I like these modifications. I appreciate your idea. My current water toy is an Ascend 128x kayak that I absolutely love but I have a couple smaller kayaks to play with as well. Combined, the two small kayaks would be a dynamite fishing platform, maybe a 6’ or8’ wide x8’ long. You can fish or hunt from that!
You mentioned the big trip starting on the Santiam and ending on the Willamette. Is that video uploaded? Great mod I plan to do the same to my 119 solo.
I have a 10 litre container I keep centered under the seat. I'm not to keen on keeping heavy items strapped to the side of my boat. I also carry multiple water purification possibilities in my kitchen box.
a BIG tx for the hack my friend!! :) u gave me ideas!!!! TX!!! :D
It’s all worked out really well.

Unfortunately it didn't happen. I had an injury that required surgery that I'm currently recovering from.
@@RussellVineyard sorry to hear that. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Liking your channel and content 👍
Thanks a lot. It's been a fun little hobby.
