- This was the thirteenth installment of our Steps to Christ reading challenge. Dr. Eric joined us again, this time to talk about faith and doubt. This is my favorite chapter in the book. Sorry for the delay in uploading! There was an audio issue that I needed help fixing. (Thanks, Jim!)
Steps to Christ was written by prolific author Ellen White in 1892. It is one of the most translated books ever, having been translated into more than 100 languages. It is also one of the top five most influential books in my life personally, and is a book I've read through more times than any other.

This was a good study, I wrote down in my book what Dr. Eric said about faith and doubt. That was easy to understand for me. It sets it in my mind and gives me a strong hold to hang on to. Very good!
I read the Chapter, "What to do with doubt." probably last week. It challenged me, but I still go forward by God's Grace, Churches have challenged me more, but I still go forward and am saved and being saved still.

Point: It’s ok for not every potential for doubt to be cleared away. Our faith is to be built on evidence, not complete external proof.
Person: God, His mind, and His ways are infinite and beyond our understanding.
Prayer: Guide me into Your truth.
Practice: Be a scientist. See the weight of evidence and make your conclusion.
Promise: (1 Cor. 13:12) For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

Now faith is:
1) trusting unto the substance of things hoped for:
A) for me...salvation, transformation, glorification Phil 1:6, 2 Peter 1:4
B) for others....salvation, transformation, glorification John 3:16, 2 Peter 3:9
C) for the earth...renewed to its Edenic state and to be in harmony with the rest of the unfallen universe. Rev 21-22
D) for God...to be glorified Phil 2:10-11, Ps 86:12 , 1 Cor 6:20 , Matt 5:16 , 1 Peter 2:9
2) believing the evidence (Rom 1:20, Ps 19:1-4, Phil 2:13) of things not seen:
A) that God is who He says He is... "that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." 1 John 1:5b; "for God is love." 1John 4:8b; "...that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding." Isaiah 40:28; "...saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come." Rev 4:8b; "that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them." Eze 20:12 ; "I am the Lord, your Holy One," Isa 43:15. "And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation." Exodus 34:6-7
