- Oregon coast river bars are dangerous places but occasionally during summer when the outlet flow is low, we get some great days- 3' ocean swell, soft outgoing tide, almost no wind forecast, then a soft incoming tide all afternoon to ride back in. August 13 was that sort of day this year so Pepper and I went fishing out to a depth of 180' off of Florence Oregon. This is probably her last ocean outing with me, she's approaching 13yo and has now been over the Siuslaw bar 3 times and gone with me 9 times out of Sunset Bay either to salmon fish or bottom fish at Simpson reef.
This trip, I had 5 salmon take-downs (that's like a boat fishing 3 rods having 15 take-downs!), 3 of mine stuck and I released a wild coho and landed and released, on video, a 22" chinook.
Peppers back!
Roger, I look up to you. Brave sole, and pep needs a biscuit!
