The Red Hot Chili Peppers' lineup during Californication & By The Way consisted of Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, Flea & Chad Smith. Their lineup during One Hot Minute consisted of Anthony, Flea, Chad & Dave Navarro.
In total the band has recorded 12 studio albums: The Red Hot Chili Peppers (1984), Freaky Styley (1985), The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (1987), Mother's Milk (1989), Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), One Hot Minute (1995), Californication (1999), By the Way (2002), Stadium Arcadium (2006), I'm with You (2011), The Getaway (2016), Unlimited Love (2022). The first two singles from Unlimited Love are Black Summer & Poster Child.
Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, Flea, Chad Smith, Dave Navarro, Josh Klinghoffer, Jesse Tobias, Arik Marshall, D. H. Peligro, DeWayne McKnight, Jack Sherman, Hillel Slovak, Cliff Martinez & Jack Irons are all of the official band members the RHCP have had over the years.

That's the mastering, not the mixing. You can find the unmastered, raw mixes of Californication on the internet. They sound great. Often the record company will choose how the album will be mastered. And that's why it ended up sounding like it did. Not because of how it was mixed.
@@Vaeren222 same happened with Metallicas “Death Magnetic”. The original recordings were clean (also found online) but they sent it to the master’r and BOIIIIIIII

It's actually very quick. Considering they had to send cds and wait for people to listen, also recalling an analog mix is no easy task.

I just wish someday somehow this album will be remixed and remastered. Just like the “Origins Of Symmetry” by Muse.
yup. extremely time efficient. the power of analogue mixing! you gotta commit! (also, analog summing/gain structure is far more forgiving than 32bit float etc) long live analogue. I know people throw around comments like “Californication is too compressed” etc but they’ve no idea what they’re talking about. even the mastering job was more than good. perhaps the vocals throughout needed a little more weight in the low mids, but then again, that was the style at the time. Sonically it’s their best sounding LP imo. Clean, sky blue, crisp with just a touch of warm grit. what an era for music. rip

@@BudFuddlackerMost likely record company pricks but I don't know. But I can tell that it is very well mastered. Maybe record company was going after numbers and the guy mastering did his absolute best. What it sounds like.

Californication is one of the worst mixed albums. So thin and distorted.
