You should really come to India and take a test drive of latest Tata cars. You'll be surprised as to how much they've improved overall.

I borrowed one of these from
A company I worked for back in the late 2000’s, I didn’t know anything about them at the time.
I found the car to be ok, yes it’s a bit flimsy and cheap in places but it does what it was built for, providing cheap transport in a city.
You don’t see many for sale these days and when you do they’r offered for close to a 4 figure sum, that could be because only the best ones now survive and the rest have been scrapped.
    That’s a nice example, a great review sir. 👍

      John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

This car was the first car in the post call center boom to be used as a taxi, and it still is synonymous with a taxi…😂😂
Sitting inside you feel surrounded by a metal cocoon, (essential for driving in India).
Then there is the loud noise of the engine .
The huge boot space was ideal for airport runs.
Tatas should have developed a better car for the British market, the tata Indica was a poor choice

Let me tell you this first, I'm from India, and these cars are absolutely loathed around here. But it was an impressive thing coming from a truck cab manufacturer back in the day. In 1998 when this was launched as Indica, it revolutionised the car market over here by giving us a cheap diesel car. I had one in 2004, the bare bones one without any Ac, airbags, abs, clock and black plastic bumpers, door handles and only driver side rear view mirror. And I remember loathing every moment sitting in it. The diesel engine so so horrible. Noisy, vibrated the whole interior up. Apparently, no matter how many times you change the timing belt it would just keep getting off and one day it just wrecked the whole damn engine. Had to scrap it. Many people had issues with the unreliable diesel engine seizing up anytime it saw fit so and 90% of the indicas sold here were the diesels. That gave it and tata very bad reputation. Their rubbish after sales didn't help either. That engine was so bad that tata just dumped it and replaced with the fiat's 1.3l multijet diesel. I remember the 1.4 petrol was quite nice and refined in comparison. Today, tata has improved so much, and redeemed themselves. You should look up the new Harier SUV they make(a product of jaguar land rover partnership) built upon discovery's platform but costing like 70% less.

This would be a good candidate for a total conversion. Put a huge engine in the back and vents everywhere and take it rallying or use the frame for a light caterham kit car. New 6R4? Nobody is going to give a shit about these being desecrated, in fact it may be a obligation.
The British can blame themselves for having no exports. At least Alfa Romeo made even their shit boxes fairly captivating to drive without high speed in the short time before they rusted apart.

Great Video Nigel...Both this and the purchase of the obscure Italian sports car maker Qvale Mangusta with its ancient Ford Mustang engine by the Phoenix consortium has to have been the most ill thought out business ventures in auto history The City Rover was nearly 6 years old when it was launched in the UK It was as far removed from a Rover car as is imaginably possible. Its 1.4L engine was a Peugeot derived unit. Sad ending to a once great brand name 😢

Being honest though was it really deserving of the slating that the motoring press gave it🤔 . Yes ok it was cheap and crudely put together but then again I learnt to drive in a Hyundai gets and later drove a Kia picanto as a company fleet car and in my opinion both of those were just as plastic and grey inside, just as tiny and flimsy. Yes the cityrover was not great and it wasn't really a Rover but I fail to see how it was worse than other base entry level cars at the time. I just think the motoring press at the time liked to bash Rover . ( End of rant )
