I was there. I was laughing when this happened but i’m also glad that Slayer was 100% live. No backing tapes. No lipsyncing. Nothing. Just pure thrash metal. Still wish Dave Lombardo was there to make it a perfect Slayer show.

Honestly, it happens. I've been playing for nearly 30 years and occasionally I can't do the simplest song that I've played thousands of times. My fingers/hands just won't do it.
The irony here is that Kerry King has a sense of humor but Slayer fans don't get it.

I was at a Helmet concert in the early 90s and I saw a crowd surfing dude get dropped on his head. Medical personnel hauled him out of there. Found out the next day on the local news that he'd been paralyzed. Damn.
Erskine Patton Honestly if that were to happen to me I would be honoured if it was my favourite band but that sucks man holy shit.
I'm a guitarist myself. Most people don't realize that it's the slow, simple, clean parts that test your nerves the most. You feel more naked, esp when you're unaccompanied like he is here. It feels a lot like public speaking where the fear can make you briefly space out or you question yourself and lose focus or focus on it too much instead of just letting your muscle memory do it's thing.
But when you do mess up, you have to laugh &/or shake it off. If you're hard on yourself(like Kerry seems to be), it makes it even worse. That's why I admire Classical soloist. They have to have nerves of steel because any little mistake is heard & magnified and if you mess up, it adds even more pressure the second time. Which I guarantee is what happened to Kerry here.
His self pressure was even worse the second time around. It's mostly about fear of embarrassment which sadly becomes a self fulfilling prophesy(Ah, the ego).
Thank god I am not the only one who has this problem and in particular, it is usually When the Stillness Comes clean part I mess up on.

When you really understand the chords(however complex they may be) and how they work together, it makes sense to you & that supports your memory of the shapes & your muscle memory. As opposed to relying just on your memory of shapes & muscle memory.
Either way, you should burn the progressions & licks into your memory by playing them over & over & over before you play live, esp on a pro level. You wouldn't believe the practice regimen of Classical soloist. It's absolute dedication. So my advice is, learn to understand the chords & how they work together then isolate the changes & licks that give you the most problem & practice them very slowly & only increase speed when you can play it clean at the present speed.
Rem, practice doesn't make perfect. PERFECT practice makes perfect. Btw, I'm a guitar teacher(for over 25 yrs) and I know these things work. Whether or not you care to learn theory, these practice habits will greatly help you. God Bless Bro!
Yeah you got it pretty spot on really, the fact that there's no bass, no drums or other guitar backing him up any error is amplified which is putting pressure on him before it starts so this just makes it worse for him so when he does fuck up.....he's literally in seasons in the abyss! hes in a vicious circle and the pressure and embarrassment is just mounting and mounting...so his only escape in the end here was to just give up lol

@@t-boog2173 Shame really, so near the end for Slayer and I've never seen Kerry fuck up that bad before, maybe it was something to do with his new Dean, just having a new guitar can fuck up your positioning and it can feel odd at times, can take a while to get used to a new guitar.

Seriously! But as the Motley Crue announcement earlier this week has shown, these acts never really go away. (Which is why I laughed when Phil Collins called his tour years ago "the first final farewell tour.") I'm resigned to a couple of years from now another Slayer tour announcement, with Tom or Kerry saying, "It's what the fans want," or "At the end of the day, we're brothers." But if they must take the show on the road again, Kerry could take some guitar lessons in his downtime. Those Mel Bay guides I have could be useful for him.

Absolutely. Actually I came here looking for his new Dean guitar. When you you have spent more than a decade playing a guitar then all of a sudden you get a new one made by a different builder/luthier, it surely creates some confusion and messes up with your hand memory muscle.

That looked like the most dead crowd I've seen at a metal show. Also, Slayer is so far out of their prime that it surprises me that people pay to see them.

He handled it well. Seriously, shit happens. There's a shitload of videos showing missed cues, slips, trips, falls, messing up solos, etc. of various bands. All you can do is laugh it off.

I play abit so i get that. But how much of a change does there need to be for him to mess up 3 times, i think, haven't gone back to watch. Unless on that make the neck is fatter, but hes a pro, he would of known that. They would have rehearsed that set, he prob smashed it then.
