Final Fantasy 16's World Explained

FFXVI takes place in the world of Valisthea. It consists of two continents: Storm to the west and Ash to the east. Three of the five major countries are located on Storm: The Grand Duchy of Rosaria, The Holy Empire of Sanbreque, and The Dahlmekian Republic. The Iron Kingdom is an island that lies just off the western coast of Storm and The Kingdom of Waloed is the only remaining country located on the continent of Ash. All five of these kingdoms vie for resources and land as a mysterious phenomena called the Blight swallows up large swaths of land. The Blight is slowly sucking the life out of Valisthea meaning that habitable areas are shrinking, and entire nations are being driven out of their homes.
Meanwhile, many of the nations that call Valisthea home are dependent on The Mothercrystals. These giant crystal mountains are rich with Aether, a life force that is considered the source of all magic. Mothercrystals are mined for crystal rations which can allow anyone to use magic. Magic in Valisthea is an important part of daily life. From farming to cooking to building, the population of Valisthea is dependent on these crystals. Unfortunately, a shard can only channel so much magic until it shatters. This means that countries need to infinitely mine a finite resource in order to keep the world moving.
However, not everyone needs crystals. Some, called Bearers, can channel magic from within themselves to cast powerful, elemental spells. Sounds cool right? Not really. While these nations might not agree on much, nearly all of them believe that Bearers are sub-human and should be enslaved. Bearer’s are marked with a tattoo on their face and are often treated poorly and forced to use their magic for their masters’ bidding. The problem is that if a bearer overexerts themselves they will eventually catch the Crystals’ Curse and turn to stone. Clive, our handsome, brooding protagonist, is a bearer, but we’ll get to him later.
First, let’s go over Eikons and Dominants. Eikons are essentially summons from previous games such as Titan, Ifrit, Shiva, and so on. In FFXVI, Eikons reside in a dominant, someone who can channel the power of an Eikon and transform into them. Dominants are treated as weapons. Any nation that controls a dominant is a force to be reckoned with. There are eight Eikons in total and two Eikons of the same element shouldn’t exist. That means Phoenix and Ifrit shouldn’t be fighting in the opening hours, but of course, that’s part of the mystery of FFXVI.

Wait, I thought it was Elwin that had the Phoenix bloodline. They had that whole conversation about him.being born before the last one died so he didn't get to inherit it

Dude, I just can’t wait for the rising tide. I’ve beat everything already. I’ve done all of it that’s all I want. When is this DLC coming out? This was my very first final fantasy game and I am just in awe of the game It’s world, the lore all of it and it’s got me to play some other ff games and I’m so excited to play rebirth and other ff games

Since this games structure is so similar to ff 13, as is its world design, i really hope some of you people that criticize its linearity, go back and realize you were a bit wrong. Great games.

Hey there, SE, I got what you were doing with Garuda`s ability to pull the enemy down. And why you didnt call it „staggering“, the cage, the two butterflies, the kids looking down, the „again“. But still, I miss my gameplay.
Everyone is saying the game is a triumph, a sheer spectacle that really embodies visceral action and phenomenal story writing. It sits perfectly amongst the countless stalwart, juggernaut PlayStation exclusives and that’s just based off of the DEMO. A real contender for GOTY, another huge W for PlayStation.
Pretty sure Clive is not a bearer. As per the demo, he got his magic from the blessing of the phoenix, given to him by his brother.
I always thought he was Ifrit in the demo. Seems pretty obvious. However when Phoenix was being killed I believe he was also seeing through the eyes of Torgal.
Pretty sure it's already been confirmed that he is Ifrit's dominant.
@@MattSwift1988 He becomes the dominant of Ifrit. However the demo states he has his powers before becoming ifrit from the blessing of the Phoenix which according to the devs was granted by his brother.
@@sockobottoh He become ifrit in the demo. He showed no signs on birth of magic nor of being a dominant. Demo says he got his magic from the power of the phoenix, and devs have confirmed as much. Once he becomes Ifrit's dominant, yes it likely become his power. Also the angles were way to high to be the eyes of Torgal. Remember, Torgal is a tiny puppy.
Bruh he is ifrit. He was given the blessing of the phoenix on top of that.

Can't wait for a dlc. It's a given since final fantasy games always has atleast one dlc or more. Considering how well received this game is it's gonna have a dlc. Final fantasy 15 wasn't nearly as well received and they still updated it and gave a Dlc. They left the ending open ended so a dlc would make sense.
It was so sad, they canceled the last batch of dlc for ff15 to work on Forspoken instead😭
Clive said if anyone can go to depth of that huge waterfall, some truth will be revealed...a hint for DLC perhaps...a gate to where leviathan sleep

My only gripes in a FINAL FANTASY games is they have not done a good job explaining their world... they just went on just doing random words like eikon and the likes..
They have the lore system and a accessible archive. So, if a question arose on my site it was answered by that.

I was 2hrs into the demo. Theres too much info overload with no context. All these information would be good at the start so we wont feel so lost
This is what ff 15 should have been.
Clive's not called a bearer at the start of the game, his magic at the beginning is said to have been given to him by his brother when he became the shield and later on we [spoilers] find out he's also Ifrot's dominant.

3 second is and you're already wrong. Clearly Valisthea dowant have just 2 continents (storm and ash) it has at least one more because people refer to far away lands and even ultima came from another part of the world which was destryed by the blight. Ash and storm were the last place without any blight when ultima got there. Barnabas is not even from ash or storm, he came from somewhere else.
To much complicated politics in this game. Overall it’s nowhere as good and well rounded as as Final fantasy 15
