Being able to charge the flame blade with the lunge is also awesome if it's mastered it will be charged by the time a distant lunge lands and immediately follow up with a slam. Pretty epic.
Big tip I probably recommend: switch to type c control setting. To me this feel way better and natural. Switching eikons is macrod to triangle which feels good, and L1 is your magic. So you can negative edge your launcher after a knockdown from a full combo. Makes combos a bit easier because holding triangle in combat is wierd. Plus while your releasing the charges magic, you could use that opportunity to charge your square as the animation is long enough.
Pro tip: Instead of doing a magic blast between each melee strike, press and hold the Spell button for a magic blast after the first strike in the combo, then release it immediately after the 4th strike hits. This does significantly more overall damage. The standard hit+blast+hit+blast combo is better if you won't have time to complete a full combo, though once you upgrade Spell you can still get the more powerful blast if you press and hold and just release if you need to exit the combo early. One drawback to the more powerful blast is that, in addition to doing a ton of damage and stagger to the target, Clive is also pushed away from the target. Phoenix shift makes this no big deal, but during that brief window where Clive is jumping back, you cannot dodge. So keep that in mind!
"You can't just hit buttons in quick motions." Sir! I use the auto combo ring and just smash square. I only have to worry about timing dodges. :) I've gotten killed on two or three bosses, but when you select Retry, the boss will be down to half health and you'll have full potions. This game is pretty chill. :D
Just a couple tips of my own as I'm playing through this, copy pasting it from another comment I made elsewhere; Type C is the best config for magic burst and charge burst, unless you really like claw gripping square and triangle with Type A. Type B is the most different. Only use it if you prefer a more Soulsborne/GoW style layout. Knock back enemies with a charged strike then pull them back inwards with Deadly Embrace to continue your combo or chase after them with Phoenix Shift and attack them while they're downed. Feels very satisfying to be unrelenting in this game. You can charge your sword strike during just about any animation. A useful mechanic to know. In the Hideaway, you can use the stone to go to the practice mode and select from one of the options to practice magic burst timing. Nail the magic burst timing after a lunge, it's very satisfying to use and is great as a combo opener. One of the most fun combos is charging up your sword, jumping then hitting the enemy which launches them up with Clive, then hit them a few times, stomp to get more air, hit them again, stomp once more and finish the combo with an extreme downthrust. Or you could continue the aerial combo a little more with a Wicked Wheel or another Eikon move. Find your preferred way to do air juggles. Using Torgal can also extend your aerial combos. If you progressed here you should already know this by now if you're at this point, but partially staggered enemies can be incapacitated for a few more seconds with Deadly Embrace allowing for you to get more easy shots in. Really loving this combat system. Best combat system in the series by far.
Here's a tip. You can also Magic Burst with Lunges. In fact, I find it easier to Lunge->Magic Burst->repeat+whatever else than normal combo+Magic burst. Probably worse for DPS but eh, it works.
A question I have is about how to level torval. I noticed his stat screen and didn't see any good description. I read online that you have to use his abilities to level them but I don't know if there is moee to it or not
I played 2 hours without realizing I could charge y sword or magic attack really opened things up as well as basically using my ability points to master the abilities so they work better. Still not sure what mastering dors
It’s a regen. The light green or grey bar is meant to be how much you can regen. The empty space you can’t regen - you’d have to use a potion. It’s not bad - you just have to time it well and also try not to get hit. Sting like a behemoth and move like a dragoon
My two gripes in FFXVI. Not enough variety in collectables and chests. And It's too easy. I'm just starting New Game + so hopefully it will be more challenging
Quick question after playing the demo, on the fence about buying or not ... I liked the gameplay parts of the demo but I think there was way too much story stuff and cutscenes. Does the game open up after the prologue ? Is this a game or a movie in which you pick up the controllers from time to time ? Thanks
Not too far in. But I'm enjoying it. Crazy over the top fight scenes. The combat isn't hard. But fairly deep if you want to squeeze the most damage possible. Cid is a bro.
@@gabrielmccray3457 thanks for the reply. My Main concern is that the game dosen't seem to provide the classic FF Party feeling. All the Characters playing of each other is something i always liked
@@highroller6244 yeah you wont have that. torgal is about it. you have to figure out what combos work and when to use them. tiny spoiler: when you dont have anyone with you. I felt very alone and i didnt like it lol
Obviously the only reason abilities are even locked behind resource progression is to give the illusion of an rpg. But of course it would have been better to simply automate the unlocks.
I enjoy the game but all it is is final may cry. But instead of an in-depth battle system as in devil may cry all you got to do is press square a lot. The game plays itself during big epic boss battles I watched RUclips while just pushing square with one finger.
Not really sure why you'd recommend anyone to use any timely accessories unless they want to play on ridiculously easy mode. You're literally making the game worse by equipping them.
@@TimothyGod yes, and they still say to keep one equipped as you progress. The game is easy enough and the Fextralife community are not babies. I'm not "gatekeeping" anything.

My top tip is play an actual Final Fantasy game and not what ever this is. No parties, status effects, magic, jobs or strategy. No grinding to get stronger or leveling to get better armour and weapons. I played for 12 hours and barely got hit so theres absolutely zero threat and therefore zero achievement. This isnt an RPG its a button masher.
Don't. Gaming on release is a mistake now. The game will be plagued with technical issues on PC even once it comes out, for sure. I'd even wait before buying the PC release once it comes out.

My beginner tip: Unlock Lunge if you liked to use Stinger as a gap closer in Devil May Cry. You won't be disappointed.
Or in ff15

Lunge > burst > sic > shift is one of my fav simple combos

Each of their own. I am most comfortable with default setting myself
Now with the update type f is the way to go. Its type c but switches eikon ability and dodge too.

I don’t understand how do you hold spell and keep meleeing attacks? I only have 1 thumb! Haha
I always use Torgals Ravage after that push back, since the magic charge usually pushes the enemy up into the air.

Im loving this game right now, the combos and feel are much more fluid then i thought they would be for a ff game

Do you get any kind of trophy for not using any of the accessories that make it easier?
No, you can use any without penalty
I use the dog one because I don't see the point in dealing with him, never had an issue.
Is it just me or is the Torgal heal really bad? Or is it a regen?
Its bad haha

So...does your characters armor ever change? I thought this was the point of 3rd person games?
Possibly, but this is meant to be early gane
well id say its more of a perk of 3rd person games. The 'point' is that you have better vision of things surrounding your character.

The armor only changes when the story changes it. This is technically the same with the sword but it happens much more often.
