      @@Reggiebphoto my first lens was the tiny 16 2.8 and I actually have a used 90mm coming soon. I am currently torn between the 35 1.4 and 35 f/2. I see that comparison has been done to death but I was hoping with the xt-3 the af is not as bad with the 35 1.4, as everyone claims it to be. I would like the lens to be flexible enough to shoot a variety of things from my kids playing, to the occasional low light action (basketball, roller hockey, roller derby). It doesn’t have to be the best for the job, just doable lol. If that makes sense?

    AF-C drove me mad so often. So many great shots were out of focus so I rather use AF-S now. When I started digital photography with a Casio Exilim EX-S1 I never used AF-C and very seldom had focus problems.

      I set my AF-S/C to back button focus (AFON) and leave the focus mode in the front of the camera ALWAYS on C. This way, I can use my back button focus as AF-S by just clicking once and focusing at the subject and recomposing if needed without having to focus again since focus is locked and press the shutter button to take the pic or can also use it as AF-C simply by pressing and holding it and following my subject as it will continously focus and just press the shutter button when ready to shoot. You can also have face/eye detect on for portraits. You have the best of both worlds. I learned this technique from a RUclipsr a few years ago and it has improved my focusing greatly. It does take a little while getting used to but once you do you will never go back (at least for me lol). For macro, food and product photography I change it to manual focus as i can take my time to fine tune where I want the focus to be.

    Thank you for posting this and sharing. This helps a lot! I still have a question if you don’t mind helping. I’m coming over from Canon. It seemed like on my Canon camera, I could point it at any scene and it would guess which “point” needed to be auto focused on, no matter where it was in the frame, and if it got it wrong, I could just touch the LCD screen to make it auto focus on the correct spot. With my Fuji, it seems like the only way to get it to “guess” where the autofocus needs to be is on Wide tracking mode, but there’s no way for me to then go and tap the screen to select the correct “point” it should focus on if it gets it wrong. Does that make sense? How can I apply the settings to get it to guess where auto focus should be, but still have the option to tap and adjust the spot if I need to? Thanks a lot in advance for your help and expertise!!!

Does that make sense? On point mode it just sticks to trying to focus on whatever is in the point I’ve chosen, it doesn’t first try to auto focus on something outside the point. I should be able to pick up my camera in any mode, and aim it at a baseball bat, and it should try to auto focus on the tip of the bat first, and if it doesn’t I should be able to tap the tip of the bat to then get it to auto focus on that. Not saying that this video wasn't useful. It was. But the problem for people new to the Fujifilm camera will be that you are moving too fast through your explanations. It is nearly impossible to find videos where experts REMEMBER what novices don't know or keep in mind, and leave out something that is obvious to a more experienced user. You find the same thing in all tech talks on computer use. It seems the expert will always leave out some info that the novice needs to make sense out of the instruction. It isthat I don't almost a given, like Murphy's Law, that the person explaining something to a novice will leave out that one thing that he/she assumes incorrectly will be known to the novice. That's the problem with rushing through a topic like this. I keep looking for a slow paced tutorial that doesn't try to cover everything about all focus modes, and will go slow enough to insure comprehension by a beginner. You come close, but I feel you are still rushing through it. Would consider making a tutorial for first time users who are less familar with these types of features.

      I guess you don’t really understand my kind of photography, I’m walking around and when I see something I swing my camera quickly because it will disappear in a split second!
      Hopefully I have a moment to prefocus, but more likely than not I won’t.
      I’m not your typical Street photographer, using a 35mm equivalent on APC. My fingers on the trigger most of the time and my cameras in my hand ready to go.
      Most photographers I look at having a camera hanging down their neck or on their shoulder and they wouldn’t even get close to getting what I get. You have to be ready and the concentration is at an extreme level. I use an 18 1.4, 50 F2 and 90 F2. I use an XT4.

    Hi Reggie and thank you for the video. I'm a beginner and decided to go with the X-S10 combined with the 16-80 as my first camera/lens combo. I started off in full auto mode and gradually moving towards manual. I mostly take photos of my kid running around but even with continuous auto focus a lot of them don't come out as sharp, even in good lighting conditions. Could you share any tips? I imagine shutter speed is where I should start experimenting...

    • @viagensebabados
      @viagensebabados 2 года назад +2

      I would personally go to aperture priority so you dont have to worry too much about settings and may miss a nice moment because you were fiddling with your camera settings. I also have the 16-80mm and love this lens. Since your kids are running around, I'd use the lowest F number possible, that is f4. Then I'd set the dial for ISO and Shutter speed to A (auto) and go to your camera menu and set the AUTO ISO to a minimum shutter speed of 500s and maximum ISO 6400 (for shooting outdoors or even indoors as a guidance since the camera will eventually overwrite the maximum ISO anyway if it needs more light to reach that minimum shutter speed). Fujifilm cameras (the latest ones at least) can handle high ISO like a pro so dont worry too much about the pics being grainy (better have a slightly grainy pin sharp picture than a clean blurry one lol). I have an xt4 and did a photoshoot at a gym the other day and used ISO 12800 for a couple of pics and was really impressed how clean the pics turned out. So shoot away and enjoy the moment!

      Also turn on BOOST mode, the focus improves a lot (yes, battery will drain a bit faster but who cares lol) and set to focus mode C and focus zone AREA (the biggest of the 3). hope this can be helpful.

      @@Reggiebphoto I was just making a suggestion. I also notice a lot of Fuji shooters don't talk about the xt4 much. It seems not much confidence is in the Fuji AF system. Which is why I'm wanting a "pro" to show me in real time how it works for them. Anyone can talk about menus. Maybe someone will some day.

    • @Reggiebphoto
      @Reggiebphoto  2 года назад

      I know. And I was answering why it’s not a consideration for me. The xt4 and the xt3 have the same exact af system and image quality, sk there really isn’t any reason to compare them. If you like one you’ll like the other as long as you like the ibis. As far as trust in the af system, with weddings you have to be realistic with the limits. If it can’t be trusted it can’t. Doesn’t mean you can’t use the camera for weddigns or demanding situations, just means the photographer has to have better decision making
