I just got back from Japan with limited Japanese and "daijoubu desu" was the most useful phrase.
Something I learned to avoid headaches was if they speak to you in English, just go with English. When someone spoke to me in English and I swapped to Japanese, they took it as, "oh, Japanese is ok!" and then I had to stumble through the conversation.
Also, another tip: if you rent a car, don't say "Tokyo Drifto" when you get in. I'm sorry to have scared you, Nippon Rental girl xD

So true about the Japanese conversation! Sometimes if you speak ANY Japanese they assume you’re fluent! Haha can definitely be awkward.

Thank you! Yes! Be sure to tell her so she doesn’t awkwardly stand in the changing room for ten minutes staring at a bag like I did!

Sumimasen was the most common word I used with Arigatō and basically English for the rest besides greetings.

I've been four times, literally booked my fifth trip a couple days ago, yet I have NEVER known to use "daijoubu desu" - gonna be sprinkling that in with my sumimasens and wakarimasens.
Side note: I wanted to give you kudos for being different and a bit more relatable compared to other gaijin vloggers I've seen over the years. The sarcasm and slight awkwardness is very relatable and such a breath of fresh air. Hope you continue putting more videos out!

9:15 Thanks for the Japanese-language tips, but f you’re looking for the restroom in Spanish, do NOT ask “Dónde está la biblioteca”!😁

The thing with the bag on the head was kind of crazy to hear but actually makes sense!
Also you are so good at explaining!
And omg yes i never want to ask where the restroom is! I literally prefer to wander up and down for minutes until i find it than ask!

Hahah thank you! And same! I refuse to ask where the bathroom is on sheer principle and slight awkwardness!

I was proud of myself for knowing all of those phrases! Ah except for betsu betsu - never travelled with anyone I had to split checks with so I never learnt that one so thank you!
On a different note, I always give thanks before and after meals in English, especially when eating meat cos a whole animal died for that so I find the Japanese way makes a whole lot of sense to me that they do it even when alone 😂
Also side note: your.skin.is.glowing! I whatever you’re doing girl stay with it 😍🤩👌🏽

Okay, OK or from Japanese People pronunciation "OhKeh" is a powerful word which can be used if you forgot "Daijobu Desu." Majority of Japanese people say ohkeh 👌 while showing this sign in their hands. iipong is for long things like a beer bottle. But the best phrase ive learned to say is "Gomene Nihonggo Wakarimasen" hahaha. How much Japanese do I know, very "ISKOSHIIIIII" benkyo-shinai dakara. I never experienced "Betsu Betsu" paying of tabs, we always have someone paying for our meals (thanks friendly sponsors Arigato Gozaimasu)...

These are really useful to know. I wish I had known them on my previous visit. I can also see these being helpful if you're robbing a bank. "Sumimasen. Kore kudasai"(points at money). ["Fukuro ni oiresimasu ka?"] > "Onegaishimasu". [When they come to arrest me] > "Daijoubu desu". [After being arrested and sentenced to 1 year in jail] > "Mou ippo, onegaishimasu."
