    This is a fantastic video. Youre one of the only people ive watched that sees things the way i do. I have a msi and the choil i pretty much agree for this knife. It isnt awful but it could be much better. I just change my grip. I also agree about the stop pin it was a weird decision but i dont think itl be an issue in 100 years. If you find one to wear out like that. Let me know. Its very doubtful. And Im sure the stop pin is hardened

    This was a good video, but I have some areas of disagreement. So far, I have found everything about this knife's design to be fantastic including the finger choil and the stop pin design. I have relatively small hands, and find it to be one of the most ergonomic handles of any knife I have. I have the frag plain blade version, and the blade came sharper from Microtech than any other knife I have ever bought. The Edge-On-Up BESS Sharpness Tester gave a result of 140, which is sharper than a utility razor blade. The many different ways to deploy the blade make it really fun to carry. The price direct from Microtech is an incredible bargain.

      Mine also came crazy sharp. To the point i thought it was dull. Im a traditional dude i do the 3 finger test and when i was running my fingers across the blade there was so little resistance i didnt think it was cutting through. But it was and it bit me quick. I have 100s of knives. This is a great high grit sharp not polished but close. I sharpen my knives finishing at 600 usually so they still have a lot of percievable bite in my skin and i can tell before drawing blood how sharp they are. The only knives ive got close to the sharpness of this are kunwu knives.

      @@theknifeconnection9571I watched how they do it and I believe it was a 300 diamond wheels up to a 600 then they finished it with a special cardboard/leather wheel.

    Question? When you have a proper grip on the handle, if the lock was to fail, does that finger choil that you complain about, save you from getting cut by the Blade, accidentally? I was just wondering if that might be the purpose of it; it might be a safety feature...

    • @squigglydoo9386
      @squigglydoo9386 Год назад +1

      No! Good question. If the knife fails, just like mine did, it will immediately sever one of the tendons in your index finger. But, at least it’s very sharp, so you probably won’t feel it when it happens.

    • @Kris_Stiletto
      @Kris_Stiletto 11 месяцев назад

      @@squigglydoo9386 Now, I have two. And, the Finger Choil does save your finger from being cut if the lock was to fail. So, I would call it more than a Finger Choil, it's also, an additional Safety Feature. These are great Folders. Now, I want an Amphibian, too... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

    Please do a spine impact test, a lot of people have experience a lock failure with just a light wack, would like to know if it's just QC issues or design issues.

    • @knivessportsandadventures9523
      @knivessportsandadventures9523  Год назад

      Will do! That is a good video idea. Locks like this are notoriously bad at impact on the bottom of the handle where it comes out by your little finger. All axis type locks fail that way.

    • @GreybeardEDC

      I tried it on mine and it does NOT fail. Not at all. Extremely solid.

    • @tacticalcenter8658
      @tacticalcenter8658 Год назад

      It fails because its a microtech and they dont care about being a knife. They just want people to buy and fidget with it and brag about the brand name.

    Where did you see this for $400? Because every retailer that I’ve seen it on has is listed for $300 with the G10 and around $180 for the injection molded scales.

    A bit late to this one, but the purpose for the "'finger'' choir is for placing your index finger there, to choke up to the cut; I'm confused how we can confuse a blade, and /or a handle? We are superior to all tools, as we are both the element of creation, as well as control; If I can't tell between my handle, and the blade, I have no business carrying them. Just my opinion.

    Thank you for a real honest review of this knife. I really want to like this knife and have almost pulled the trigger a few times but just looking at it I could tell I would hate the "choil" its terrible. It puts you so far away from the cutting edge and only hinders possible cutting tasks. Nobody else seems to even bring it up but for me how far away from the cutting edge has become one of the first things i look at before buying a knife. I will gladly pass on this now.

    • @knivessportsandadventures9523
      @knivessportsandadventures9523  6 месяцев назад

      I agree! The leverage it creates reduces cutting power! In a hard use knife, that is poor design.

      @@knivessportsandadventures9523 the Manix 2 is a great knife and I want to love it but it was the first time a realized I hate being so far back from the cutting edge. The choil is nice sometimes but majority of the time I like to be back on the actual handle. Manix 2 with no choil might be a dream knife of mine. Seeing as this isnt even a real choil just seems a terrible design to me, but seems to me a pretty regular trend now.

      @zdbrownie interestingly enough, I just ordered a Manix 2 to see if I can modify it to get rid of the choil. Stay tuned!

      @zdbrownie I just put up a short after modding my Manix 2! Check out my latest short if you haven't already. The blade stop gets deleted, but the ball bearing lock functions as the new blade stop with no bad side effects on the knife.

      Unfortunately they don't seem to be making enough to keep up with demand even here in the United States. I was recently at the Smoky Mountain knife works, which is the largest knife store in the world. They didn't have any of either in stock except for a custom Amphibian that was over $1000 US dollars.

    For some reason i find myself less interested in knives with magnacut steel, reason being, they put it on everything these days, and that just makes it less interesting to me for some reason😁I know it's a terrible excuse, but that's how i feel.
    Putting a new steel on this one that i've never heard of, makes it more interesting though, at least in my opinion

      Magnacut is an excellent steel, but in my testing there are others that have done just as well. I am planning some videos on that subject. I think some steels are extremely overpriced and some are drastically under rated.

    It’s not MagnaCut so it releases at a fantastic price point. They make knives in magnacut at $400+. The point of choil, which isn’t large enough to be a finger choil, is so you can sharpen the entire length of the blade edge without your sharpening device running into your handle.

    • @corwinspyre

      You're wrong about the choil. A sharpening choil only needs to clear the plunge. This goes way past that.
