It IS a messy situation. But...
GOD is where ever the mess is....loving, compassionate, merciful, patient....and inviting those who created or are IN.THE MESS to seek his counsel. The Advocate is always available and accessible to each and every one of us. Thanks Christine....you are a courageous and honest soul.
Pray for the church, the bishop and the community .... and the redemption of those who sinned against their vows.
God is watching and won't be mocked!!!
Sure He will be.
That's why He said what the penalty was for doing it.
Christine thanks for posting this. Hope everyone can see our Bishop Olson is not a monster like many Catholic brothers and sister talk about. Thank you Christine for everything you do.
@GeorgeGeorge-by2lf here we go. When the nuns decided to take it to secular court, it was going to be made known regardless. That's why the nuns should have gone canonical court instead. It's public now. Instead of being scandalized about it. How about praying for the bishop and nuns.
The Archbishop Carballo who made Bishop Olson "commissary" was one of three corrupt treasurers who bankrupted his own Order. and was never taken to trial. Look it up. For the last 10 years he has been destroying monastic houses of women. In fact, he's on record for stating monastic orders of women are useless and are no longer needed or welcome by the Church. So the houses are defamed, Carballo used Cor Orans to go in and seize the property and financial assets, they then strip the Nuns of their vows and throw them out. Their property is sold as resorts, or to developers or used as immigrant centers. You can find it on the Church Militant site. It's been happening all over the world especially Europe for the last 10 years!
Very painful as the "merciful" Bp Olson continues to scourge Mother with gaslighting.
Christine can you please explain if the process was canonically legal?
Take this off the internet NOW!!!! What do you intend to achieve by posting this? Do all parties involved permit you to post this?
Our clergy need to be transparent.
@@LambofGodKnock transparency doesn't mean exposing people's weaknesses. Take a look at John 8:7.
@@wordmadeflesh9217 tell that to McCarrick's victims.
@@LambofGodKnock Not same thing. Now you're veering away to "criminal acts."
It became public the moment they filed the lawsuit in civil court.
I noticed that no notice was given that they were being recorded, nor did Mother Teresa give her permission to be recorded.
No specific sin was confessed, just a sin, over the phone, of the 6th commandment. For instance, for a priest and nun to form an attachment and declare that attachment would be considered for a religious a sin against the 6th commandment. No sex involved. The Bishop told her this was all confidential, then smeared her reputation all over the diocesean website was deplorable. This tape only represents his first visit and not not his subsequent visit where he raged at the sisters, per the lawsuit filings.
Don't forget he conveniently had photographs that he said were illegal drugs in the monastery! I pulled those two pics into Google lens and it was all trash. Then he sent 3 unidentified people to the news once again to defame the Nuns. The Bishop has been using the newspaper, RUclips and TV stations to defame the Nuns all along. All of which is breaking canon law! There is no Christ in this man!
Ask him about Wichita Kansas wasn't he accused of some kind of aberration they're sexual aberration?
This.recording was edited - The original recording we can hear the Bishop introducing the person coming in with him and their role. The Sister was aware of the recording. In such cases, a Bishop does not go alone. The recording is necessary for further investigation.
This recording cut the part.the sisters says the name of the priest.
She lied and filed a bogus lawsuit! She can add lying 🤥 to her list. What a hypocrite misleading the faithful. She admitted to sexual relations with the Priest.
It's all been about seizing property and assets. That's what ArchbCarballo has been doing in Europe and other places, and Bishop Olson bought into it. It's about the defamation and destruction of contemplative monasteries of women. Then sell the property for a resort or to developers for hotels, apartments. Look it up. Church Militant has many articles
How come a private talk with th Prioress is recorded and is now in you tube ? Shame for the Bishop.
They were suing him for $1m and defaming him for her crimes... shame on them more like.
Never forget the Sixth Commandment.
The nuns are rebelling against God, She admitted to violating her chastity with a preist on audio.

This unveils the mystery behind the (likely false) accusations. Thank you for sharing!

Very impressed and proud of Bishop Olson's handling of this difficult situation. God bless our bishops.
He's totally gaslighting Mother. What a narcissist!
Was this before or after they took the matter to the civil courts?
Before.
As an update, the Vatican has reinstated the sister. There’s obviously A LOT more to this story. There’s a good article by Molly Olmstead in Slate, called “Having Nun of It.”

He did so well
Why are so many comments defending this sister. She fell into sin, obviously. She is human but took supernatural vows to Christ and the Church. The bishops demeanour is calm, collected. No shouting or yelling.
We must pray for our Holy Mother Church that God raises up Holy priests and nuns

What a spectacle ! Odd
You’re odd
I think this is awful. None of this should be public.
In the USA we have this misconception that we have certain untouchable rights, and we do when it comes to acting within the law. But privacy rights can be revoked when they are brought to PUBLIC court.
In the Catholic church there are laws that govern Catholic behavior among clergy, religious orders, and lay people.... and each are subject to different laws. When these laws are violated there are consequences in a religious, Catholic context. This sister was having her position of authority taken away for violating the rules of her religious order. This bishop was carrying out those consequences. None of this was of a civil matter (I.E. sexual abuse of a minor) and therefore was being handled via private investigation within a Catholic law context in a discrete manner.
Whether you agree with the Catholic rules or not those are the rules. This recording was FOR A NON PUBLIC, INVESTIGATION on a matter of non-civil, religious law.
The only reason her privacy was violated was because she brought a religious matter to public civil court, which ironically has the authority to revoke her rights to privacy. None of this would have seen the light of day if it had been kept within the Church investigation.
The priest is Father Philip Johnson of the Diocese of Raleigh North Carolina. He lived with the community mentioned as a novice and then left resigned and returned to North Carolina he must have used the name Bernard Marie when he was in the community as a novice
He was a chaplain at the Traverse City, Michigan Discalced Carmelite Monastery. He was never in Texas, never in Arlington. In fact, he was a novice in a men's order up north.
Incorrect. He was never at this convent. And nothing happened between these two in person
Who in his right mind could have advised to the nuns to take this issue to court ?
It's about the property. The bishop has made himself Superior of the monastery. They are trying to keep their property.
Go online and read the lawsuit they filed with the court. It's all in there.
So who knew this conversion being recorded??
It is Canon Law that brings civil law to bear on the taking of possessions:
Can. 1500 The prescripts of the civil law of the place where the object whose possession is in
question is located are to be observed regarding the nature and force of a possessory action."
@@sassy2bsure244 Don't know. The fact of it being recorded was not stated on the tape, nor did Mother give her permission to be recorded.
The sister needs the very best Lawyer before she hands over her phone
Why? She cheated on her vows. She needs to leave the convent and let someone else take over.
Isn't that what Reconciliation is for? Priests too numerous to count cheat on their vows and carry on. Why is she singled out to leave?@@gabolujan3109
Church Property. The good Bishop pays the bills. Don't Carms take a vow of poverty? Anyway don't confuse Church law with Secular Law. Separation of Church and State, Remember that one?

If so, I don’t trust him. He or his staff is surpassing God’s law and making their own choices instead of following the laws of Christ’s Church.
The Bishop seems very reasonable and very kind.
Taking a vow is a serious business. We need to pray for those who chose this vocation, please pray for Mother Gerlach, she's going to need our prayers.

Does the Bishop always talk like this? He sounds like he's talking to a puppy. I know it's a sensitive subject matter, but sound like an adult.
Very condescending. He knows he is recording so this must be his nice voice. Appalling.
Poor man. Who would want this.
More to the story. This is bigger that whats happening. Wait till they depose the bishop in court. All you need is 1 boy to show up
He was taken to court in Wichita Falls!
And Vigano was on the sister's side. Always knew that guy was twisted.
Nevertheless, the bishop doesn't have normal jurisdiction (and I can argue none at all) and his restrictions are most heavy handed. He denies her her choice of representation, which I believe is uncanonical, his restrictions are ridiculous imo, and the takeover of the monastery seems extra-juridical. His intervention was "sanated" retroactively at the end of May. None of this in the interview was legal in any way. Amazing, he won't appoint a Carmelite to be superior. He has zero authority to depose her.
It would be nice if they went after the Lavender mafia in this way....
Also, it seems the priest involved took advantage of her. My experience with Carmel is they are very open (and humble) about these falls. Still, the best order in the Church and Bergoglio for years has been destroying contemplative women's orders with his diabolical Cor Orans.
(continuing) This is really strange imo. Why are they confiscating phones and computers? The longer you listen the creepier Olson becomes. This is EXCEEDINGLY heavy-handed, even unheard of. Using a soft voice while he imposes a completely out of the ordinary intervention. "The sake of the whole Carmel is at stake" -- this is gaslighting at its worst: absurd. Why not let Carmel take care of it?
Bergoglio is a false pope (since Benedict never resigned, cf. Cionci's "Ratzinger Code") without authority who runs a circus. Amazing gaslighting and takeover......stinks of a power play
You are very flippant with your own opinions, the Bishop does hold jurisdiction over all orders within his diocese. His restrictions are reasonable considering her admittance of the accusation, he would have had permission to record the conversation as there is an investigation being held, as it is to protect both parties or otherwise it would end up being he said she said. She said that this violation happened via the phone which is a tiny computer that holds information including texts even if they have been deleted they can be retrieved legally as proof. He has every right to depose her as she is in violation of the rule of Carmel and is a bad example to the other nuns within the monastery. This should never have gone to a civil lawsuit but by the nuns doing so they have opened Catholicism to full blown ridicule adding to the never ending scandal and persecution of Catholics. This is an ecclesiastical matter not a civil one and the judge should throw it out of court. The other accusation about drugs could be civil if it is proven to be true. All of this does put the whole Carmel in danger as Catholic critics always tar all as being guilty.
@@MaryMDoyle no. Carmel is only subject to the pope, or superiors. He has jurisdiction over diocesan orders. not Carmel.
Furthermore: 1) he denied her choice of counsel (it's on the tape), a gross violation of her rights which nullifies his judgment anyways. This is confirmed by the "sanation" in May. He had no right to appear (and on 30 minutes notice no less). 2) He violated the instruction not to make these alleged delicts public; instead publicly defaming her. 3) He refused to appoint a Carmel superior... and indeed ended up making himself superior later.
It's start to finish unlawful and likely a power and money grab. Moreover, he maliciously insinuates this is going to affect all of Carmel. He gaslights them throughout. .... I've seen this happen to friends of mine. disgusting.
Wow. But no one asked.
Bro she committed a sin against the 6th commandment

A)
"Vatican says bishop has authority over Carmelite monastery amid investigation. Amid an ongoing legal dispute between the Diocese of Fort Worth and a Carmelite monastery, the diocese announced that the Vatican formally recognized Bishop Michael Olson as having authority over the nuns." ==> Effectively the POPE is acting through the Bishop!
B)
CANON 394, dictates a diocesan Bishop is to ensure all apostolate works are carried out under his direction.
Your reaction is emotional and biased to serve an "anti-Bishop/Pope" agenda;
1) "Nevertheless, the bishop doesn't have normal jurisdiction"
He has jurisdiction over the masses said in his area & apostolic work in his area.
2) "He denies her her choice of representation, which I believe is uncanonical"
IS uncanonical OR do you just *believe* it's uncanonical?
3) "the takeover of the monastery seems extra-juridical"
This word "seems" - again, is it or is it not extra-juridical?
4) "Also, it seems the priest involved took advantage of her."
Seems? What proof do you have other than hunch?
5) "He violated the instruction not to make these alleged delicts public; instead publicly defaming her"
What instructions? And didn't this become public when she forced the issue by PUBLICLY suing him for $1m?
From the get-go, it was obvious the Bishop had his mind made up. That was very hard to listen to. The Bishop was so condescending while trying to take everything away.
The Bishop has to proceed with his investigation and in the mean time, he cannot allow the nun to continue in her leadership role or access to methods she used that she confessed to or was reported as part of the scandal. He advised her that she needed a canon lawyer for her own representation.
If a priest was alleged to have committed sexual misconduct or abuse, the Bishop would be right in putting the priest on administrative leave until the investigation is over.

@@deubank1861the bishop has never had any business in this at all. These nuns report directly to the Vatican, not the diocese. And the priest involved resides in a different state.
