Just a small correction: the Berklee guys never graduated there, they left the school before doing so. It doesn't make them less masters of what they do, though. ;)
The most talented band ever.. they are the Masters of their instruments... ❤️ Dream Theater is not for everyone all the tecnics, long songs, instrumentals but when you get into them and especially if you play any instruments you’ll just love them and understand their musicality and talents.. and welcome to DT family🤘🏽.. Good reactions guys🤘🏽 Keep rocking🤘🏽Thanx for sharing🤘🏽
A dozen time signatures, a half dozen musical genres, a hundred quick cuts, drawing together prog rock, metal, dance hall (and I mean 19th century dance hall), virtuoso instrument-playing, all pulled together into classic Dream Theater. My son introduced this band to my wife and I several years ago when he was a teenager, and the three of us have now been to see them three times.
I know Nick definitely knows them since I've heard him talking about them! We'll definitely be doing some of their reactions. We've done Spastic Ink so far :) - Lex
Before the pandemic in May of 2019 I got to see Dream Theater in Austin play this entire album. I also got to meet the band members for the 3rd time in my life. It was and amazing performance!!
Petrucci and Myung where HS buddies that grew up about 90 minutes from me on Long Island. At least Pertucci still lives in the area. And I suspect Portnoy because friends and acquaintances always see him around at various places. They went to Berkly and met Portnoy there and low and behold he grew up 15 minutes from me on Long Island. And yet I never even heard of them until around 2000.
I have been so fortunate to see Dream Theater live over these many years. This is my son and my personal go-to band to watch live. They are simply amazing and never fail to deliver. We were fortunate to see them at the end of their U.S. Tour in Reno, Nevada on November 1, 2019. It was the 2000 "Metropolis Pt.2: Scenes from a Memory" performed in full. I love this album and they definitely delivered. Thanks for sharing this great song!
This actually does not appear on other albums like you said. Probably you're thinking about the twelve-step suite (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-step_Suite) that appeared across albums. About songs and albums "linking" though, this is some really cool: this album (metropolis 2, expanded of the song metropolis 1) is continuous, each song linked to the end. Then the last songs links to the first in the next album (six degrees), then the same with the next one (train of thought), and the next one! (octavarium). Here they did a nice trick: the last note of the last song is the same as the first note of the first song, making it loop forever (and from that comes the octavarium concept itself, eternal loop represented by notes and octave, from F to F, with each song in a subsequent key). So yeah, they had a lot of thought in to this! (portnoy's geniality actually). PS: yes I'm a huge fan lol
Have you read the "Lifting Shadows" book with and about Dream Theater ? So many interesting stories, I know a lot about them since I followed them since WDADU back in 89.... but this book tells much more ... it's a must for huge fans :-)
“....Love is the Dance of Eternity” This song changes time signature over 100 times. Evolved into “Instrumedley” which contains parts from numerous other DT songs. If you’re ready to try something with vocals I suggest “the Count of Tuscany” or “Ministry of Lost Souls”
The Count of Tuscany is a beautiful song and it means a lot to our relationship when we first started Nick played it for me and we both cried together. Thanks for sharing! :) - Lex
@@NicknLex sweet story and an amazing memory that will remain with you the rest of your lives. Thanks for sharing. Currently my favorite Dream Theater song is “ Under a Glass Moon” an amazing guitar solo that is both technical and emotional. It seems that is what you appreciate most.
Loved your reaction especially the dancing with the ragtime section! I suggest you try Breaking All Illusions or Illumination Theory from their live dvd/Blu-ray Breaking The Fourth Wall (Live From The Boston Opera House) to get a taste of how good they are live..
@@NicknLex I am fine with almost any song thats not from the "Astonishing" album. LOL. But I much prefer live cause watching them play will melt your eyes.
Osea, dream theater es dream theater!!!! Como dijo nick son chingones 😁, las guitarras de petrucci son geniales, amigos hay un tema muy genial que se llama " Floods " de Pantera, de verdad se los digo, deben escuchar ese tema.
Not sure if you're familiar with Liquid Tension Experiment, but if you guys like the instrumentals, it's the guitarist, drummer, and keyboardist from Dream Theater plus Tony Levin on bass. Full instrumental band who just released a single from their upcoming album. Obviously the Dream Theater instrumentals are awesome, but for a more "experimental" sound, definitely check out Liquid Tension.
Thanks for your support! We have a request for The Ministry of Lost Souls for you, are you changing it to Stream of Consciousness (live at Budokan)? :) Let us know because you're next in line! - Lex
Since you like the instrumentals, you should really love the band Liquid Tension Experiment made up of Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, Jordan Ruddas, and Tony Levin ( from King Crimson fame and plays also with Peter Gabriel). Phenomenal instrumental songs.
Oh man, Dream Theater are amazing, although for me personally they lost something essential when Mike Portnoy left. And nothing against Jordan Rudess, but I much preferred Kevin Moore's playing. Rudess is more of a virtuoso, I guess, but he also repeats himself too much for my taste, whereas Moore was the more inventive and atmospheric player. By the way, another amazing band you should check out (although I'm sure Nick knows them well) are Fates Warning. And tying this back to Dream Theater, I recommend what is probably my favorite FW album, "Disconnected", which features Kevin Moore on keys, and he is ALL OVER that record. "Something For Nothing" is a great showcase for that, but "Still Remains" is the obvious pick for a reaction. ;)
Please react to Porcupine tree "Arriving somewhere but not here" and "Anesthetize" live versions! More IQ, Genesis, Marillion, Camel, Pink Floyd, King Crimson.
Next DT we do will be live, that's a promise! Also, we won't be doing any from Astonishing, don't worry. When we saw them live it was for that album (our first time listening to it, too) and not something we'd listen to again. Thanks for the feedback and stay tuned for our next DT live performance! :)
Dream Theater is more abstract. My only criticism. Never match Rush’s ability to paint a mental picture without lyrics. Melodically they could be better. That said Petrucci is got to be the best guitarist today
@@NicknLex Make it a bit more of a deep dive and look up The 12 Step Suite. The Glass Prison is the first of the five songs that make it up. Also, "The Mirror" from their album "Awake' can be considered a prologue of sorts to the suite in that it references the same topic (and is also referred to in the opening lyrics of the fourth song of the suite)
The live version with the orchestra is even more mind blowing🤯🤯
the reversed part in the start of dance of eternity is a part from metropolis pt 1 somewhere after the middle
Dream Theatre is an experience ❤️☝️💫 thanks guys ❤️☝️
Portnoy, Petrucci, and Myung all graduated of Berklee, Jason Rudess Julliard. All masters of their craft!
Just a small correction: the Berklee guys never graduated there, they left the school before doing so. It doesn't make them less masters of what they do, though. ;)
* Jordan Rudess
@@fabioriato thank you for mentioning that.........Berklee was moving too slow for them.........they had bigger fish to fry!
They did the best this album...... its "The Wall", as Pink Floyd were the starting band from nowhere.... DT became the Titans of Prog too

Creo que Dream Theater es una de las mejores bandas de la historia.
Do they have any covers of earlier artists?
Please react to Wings of reality - Angra!!
The Mother of all
Do a livestream of this whole album... Absolute masterpiece
The whole album repeated lots of melodies and riffs from the original track "Metropolis pt: 1" and this song in particular is filled with them.

This sounds a hell of a lot like "Metropolis Part I: Miracle and the Sleeper" from their album Images and Words. No doubt that's intentional.
This album is an elaboration on that song.

This is still my favorite Dream Theater album. The epic song Octavarium from the album of the same name is pretty up there for me, as well.
