Watching These Tribal Moms Try American Breakfast Is So Cute

  • So, these tribal women tried breakfast for the first time ever. And I’m not sure what they were expecting, but it was pretty hilarious to watch them try toast, sausages, and potatoes! It took some convincing before they actually tasted anything because their faces when we served them food looked like “can you please just stop filming me?” But eventually they got used to all the different flavors.
They didn't seem too excited about our eggs though...

Big breakfasts like this are a hold over from when the majority of people were farmers. In the old days, especially if you had animals, you got up very early in the morning to Feed the animals, let them out to pasture, milk cows, etc. While that's going on, a big breakfast is being prepared. A lot of food because they haven't eaten since the previous evening, AND have worked a couple of hours already, so they're HUNGRY. These days, the majority of people don't need to eat like this everyday (though some do), but it's still a nice meal to have, so many will only do it on the weekend, Sunday morning for example, or just once in a while. Some restaurants will call this a "farmer's breakfast" on their menu.
Edit: You can have the eggs in whichever way you prefer. If you order eggs at a restaurant, they will always ask how you like them. I think fried, "sunny-side up" is maybe most popular, but it isn't a rule. I like my eggs fried "over-medium", which means it's cooked on both sides and the yolk is only a little bit runny. I can't digest the white, but I can eat the yolk, so I like to be able to separate it from the white and spread it on toast.

The last time I had a big breakfast, it consisted, 2 fried eggs, bacon, sausage, a lamb chop, lambs fry, a small piece of steak, fried tomatoes, fried mushrooms and toast. I live in Australia, it has changed a bit since then, these days, I don't think they include the lamb chops, steak, and the lambs fry, but I'm not positive about that, it would probably depend on where you are having it, i.e., a country pub, or a cafe etc

Certainly one version of an American breakfast... something one could make at home, or eat out at a diner/restaurant.
Another version would be something like pancakes with syrup, and fruit / juice / coffee, possibly with eggs, hash browns, bacon/sausage. Or french toast instead of pancakes.
These are all, I think, more weekend meals. Typical weekday meal is probably more like cereal, juice/milk/coffee, fruit, maybe a bagel & cream cheese... Just something fairly simple.

The toast we'd just pick up and eat. Often with fruit jam/jelly on it.
Potatoes we'd stab with fork and eat.
Egg we'd probably cut with fork or knife then eat with fork. If the egg yolk is still runny ("over medium"), we'd probably sop up a bit with the bread and eat it as it runs out while we're cutting the whites with the fork or knife.
Sausage we'd probably stab with fork and eat bites from or else cut with knife (holding it still with fork) and then eat the smaller pieces with fork.
      Hope that helps. :)

And, hey, if making it into an egg-potato sandwich works for you, have at it! :) Looks delicious, regardless. I'd certainly eat it that way if that's your preferred way, to make you feel more comfortable. Seems a perfectly reasonable way about it. :)

Also, there are many ways to cook eggs, and we have particular terms for how people prefer their eggs cooked:
Sunny-side up: One side fried to white, other side with uncooked white / yolk.
Over easy: lightly cooked both sides, yolk still runny.
Over medium: cooked a little longer on both sides, whites firm, yolk runny.
Over hard: cooked all the way through, both whites and yolk fully cooked/hard, not runny.
Scrambled: completely whipped/beaten/mixed eggs, cooked until fluffy-but-firm piles of egg. May include cheese or other added things like bacon bits, tomatoes, etc.
Omelette: Eggs mixed then carefully cooked into a circular flat fluffy disc, then other ingredients placed on top of half of the disc and then folded inside into a half circle with egg on top/bottom and ingredients inside like cheese, tomatoes, zucchini, bacon, etc. Delicious stuff.
Hard-boiled: egg is boiled in its shell until fully hardened. Then the shell is peeled off and the egg is eaten that way.
Deviled eggs: Like hard boiled eggs, except the hardened yolks are taken out, and mixed/whipped with mustard, paprika, etc, and then spooned back into the hollowed out egg whites. It's all refrigerated and served cold as a snack, appetizer, or side-dish at parties.

For my part I learned my lesson and NEVER eat sunny-side-up. Minimum of "Over Medium." Otherwise, if the whites aren't cooked all the way, you can get food poisoning and very sick. This happened to me right before going on a cruise with out family when I was a kid. Ended up getting sick in the stairwell as we were going to our room. And let me tell you, vomiting up gross yellow egg stuff at the start of a trip is absolutely no fun at all.

I usually eat with my hands, especially the bread and bacon if that is served. If the egg isn't over medium, it ruins it for me

As an American woman i would say, i dont like my eggs cooked like that either lol and im a vegetarian so, and i dont eat bread so that whole breakfast wouldnt work for me hahaha . Americans are very diverse. I think we all have different ways we like to eat especially so many of us growing up with unique multi cultural backgrounds. Ive actually been trying to make roti the past few days with millet. Ive still yet to perfect it though 😂

It would be helpful if you explained the origin of unfamiliar terms. Since a person doesn't eat while sleeping, he is essentially fasting. So, when you get up, you end or 'break' the overnight fast. Also, please let these wonderful ladies know that this is only one type of breakfast eaten in the U.S.

OMG that’s a lot of food! Hope they don’t think all of us eat that much haha Maybe a large man can eat that amount at one sitting. We also do not boil the potatoes for breakfast. Usually sautéed in a pan with oil, peppers, onion and seasonings. I prefer no peppers and onions cooked well done so they are crispy.

They really thought the egg wasn't cooked properly BTW it's better to pour just alittle water in with the two eggs and cover with a smaller lid than the pan ur using to sort of steam the top of the eggs way better also Just saying where is the ketchup 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I don't like a runny 'sunny side up' egg either. As an American, I can tell you that we can have the eggs made however you like. There are other ways as well. Hard boiled, omelet, eggs benedict. I think scrambled is the most common way it's prepared. I prefer scrambled. Can't stand runny eggs on anything. Blech.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of eggs 'sunny side up' either. I like them 'eggs over hard' or even medium, or scrambled medium. I like my egg yolk cooked, or mostly cooked. My dad liked them sunny side up though.

I don't live in the US nor have I ever visited the country but isn't this more like an "English breakfast"? Without the beans and stuff. As far as I know Dr. Kellog's has kind of changed the eating habits of Americans so today it's mostly either cereal or pancakes or nothing. Maybe people still have that in the countryside. It's actually healthier this way (like in the video) since starch and sugar are actually the biggest problems in terms of health, not fat like people used to think in the past.
