      My sister brought me fabrics from her travels and living abroad 40 yrs ago. I still wear a few of the things I made. Countless comments on the beautiful prints and patterns over the years. Massive pieced, then printed pieces of fabric for circle skirts-- the pattern surrounds with no seam. Beautiful, rich colors. Batik, wood block prints, all hand dyed. I've done my best to preserve the colors while still wearing them. I love seeing textiles from other cultures.

    Someone needs to teach these ladies how to filet fish so they don't have to worry about bones anymore!

    • @Peyhah
      @Peyhah 3 года назад +9

      There are plenty of fish species which are incredibly bony, and whose bones are really thin and brittle and very well embedded in the flesh; it's nigh on impossible to fillet them properly, especially because they're quite small as well. Having eaten such fish before, I too must "look for bones 40 times" before eating them, because a surprise "pin bone" sticking into your gums or the inside of your mouth as you're trying to eat them is as unpleasant as it sounds.
      And thus haddock, cod, plaice, groupers and other such species have been periodically over-fished for their desirable fillet-able qualities.

    That fish looked like cod which is a treasure. So much so that it was fished almost to extinction. I'm of Portuguese descent and cod is much loved in Portugal. Bacalhau (made from cod) is the national dish and every grandmother has her own recipe. Cod is a large fish (80 to 90 pounds as an adult) and it's easy to avoid the bones when filleting them. You can go your whole life eating cod and never come across a bone in your meal. It's wonderful that these amazing ladies got to experience it for the first time. I love all things seafood, fish, shellfish, squid, octopus, it is a bounty of flavors and goodness.

      I think it might be Flake - which is actually shark, but relabelled, certainly in Oz, to make us less squeamish.
      Flake was the only fish I liked. Very white, very subtle - not fishy at all, but it was the first meat I stopped eating, about 40 years ago, because of the stories I heard of the devastation to sharks, from killing just for fins.
      Certainly in Australia, only sharks under a certain size can be fished for consumption, as being an apex predator, they eat so many fish carrying levels of toxins, from pollution, the older sharks have built up levels that make them a health hazard.
      We really are a crappy species.
      I don't know what the rules might be for Pakistan, but I suspect not as strict as Oz.

  • @PATTHECATMCD
    @PATTHECATMCD 3 года назад +8

    Yes ladies, it is much easier to remove bones from big fish than little fish. After first gutting the fish. Then take the skin off, you dip the fillet in flour, and then in batter (egg, water, flour liquid) for a crispy coating. Bit of vinegar or lemon juice helps the flavour.

    I love all these women but my favorite is the one who goes on and on about how good it is. She always gives the BEST most honest reactions. The rest of these women I really like but it's HER reaction I always look forward to the most. What is her name? She is the one with a grey undercoat and the orange flowered shawl that starts at 4:52 on the timer and goes on for a bit! I'd like to send her something. She is the most forthright and bold all the time. I just think she is terrific!

    Tell the fillet means they have cleaned the fish and removed all bones thorns pins and it is pure fish you can bread and fry. Breading can contain besan or wheat flour corn starch egg little water and any masala you like and deep fry it. Fillet is the most common way in US to buy fish. Serve it with lime hot sauce and tartar sauce. Some fish are easier to fillet than others. You may have eaten cod or pollack fish that are ocean fishes.

      It should be easy to explain that they find really big fish with really big bones and they cut the filets away from the bones before ever cooking them.

    Here are some translations of words that have been used by the women, that havent been translated or may not have been translated correctly.
    2:20 'Handi' is a largish cooking pot either made from metal or clay.
    2:32 They don't remove the 'fur' from the fish but the skin or scales.
    2:34 The batter/fritters are made of 'Besan', not basin! Besan is also known as Gram Flour, which is a flour made from ground Chick peas.
